Does anyone have an alternative when you crave salt? I have started using Morton Lite Salt, but sometimes I really crave salty chips or crackers.
-
I watch my salt intake carefully but I cant say I will never eat any chips or crackers.
On the weekend I treat myself (not this weekend)
-
I treated myself tonight to some chips, and although I didn't have as much as I might normally have had, I feel guilt, because I want to lose weight and I know that I only set myself back. I did get a phone call tonight from DS & DIL and as I talked with them I walked and did my exercises, so I feel a bit better.
-
i know what you are saying.
We were so excited and happy these last 2 days I felt guilty buying my gold fish.
So I really dont have anything ooooh i have 100 calories mini bag popcorn.
You should try that.
It only has 6% salt in it. and 94% fat free and its pretty tasty.

I'm sorry but I bought 5 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies today - Good news, I only ate one cookie!
I did work in the yard with DH and DS & 1st DD - raking and picking up leaves.
Bookart, thank you for your suggestions. I did pick up some oatmeal yesterday and will incorporate your suggestions as well.
Sleep well all.
Trish

This is what I buy
-
-
I think the important thing I read here is that there are still girl scout cookies available out there
-
LOL Diane! I love the girl scout thin mints, they have always been my favs. I can't buy them I will sit and eat the whole box in one sitting. When the girl scouts are outside of Wal Mart I turn and walk away. I hate to be that way, because I was a girl scout and sold the cookies, but if I go near them I can't resist. I also like the Samoa's!! Enough of that... can you tell I'm getting hungry? Time to prepare some breakfast I guess. Maybe a boiled egg and toast with cheese.
Meece I'm sorry to hear that with your last reconstruction you had some healing problems but it is good to know that I am not the only one that is having this problem. I just have been really concerned about the possibility of infection, though the doctor doesn't seem to be.
O.k. Robins let's drink, drink and drink that water today... or tea (whatever you like that isn't carbonated) and make sure you get in at least 32 oz. A little hint for those of you like me that don't like plain water... I drink a plain bottle of water and then treat myself to by adding crystal light to a second bottle, I find that if I don't sip the water I drink more. I also seem to persuade myself to drink more fluids that way. So goal for today drink more fluids and do one thing that has you up and moving for at least 15-30 minutes even if it's at two seperate intervals (laundry, cleaning the bathroom, vacuuming, etc). Remember it's key to take baby steps. If you try to run before you walk you will give up and not meet your goal.
Have a great morning!

Hi all,
Just wanted to pop in to say Goooooo Cranes!!
This crane looks like she is getting her exercise in!! Maybe jumping jacks? Really working to get my steps in today as well as drinking my water! I have 40 oz in and hope to make it to 64 oz but, I do believe I will be floating by then! lol... I think we have said over 32 oz is good but I have read 8 times 8oz glasses a day is optimal!
Baking a lasagna for dinner... I know... NOT low cal but, I had leftover fresh lasagna sheets that I had to use before the went bad and I DID use part-skim cheese! DH is making a great big tossed salad so we will have a BIG salad followed by a little Lasagna!!
Hope you all are doing well!!
-
Go with small portions, that's the ticket.

Hello to everyone especially all the
Team!!!
Well I hope everyone has had a good weekend. I'm still not too clear on the water/liquid rule. Oh Sheila, my leader, my leader!!! Is it a minimum intake per day and if so what is it and has it been agreed that any non caffeine beverage is allowable. I was very good yesterday I upped my plain water intake to 4 glasses, and I had about 4 mugs of chamomile tea. More or less the same today but I must start keeping track so that I can report in on Friday.
Meece - I know it's very important that everyone feels their efforts are acknowledged but be careful not to have too much going on - it could get complicated and messy. I would advise caution about pointing dr, clinic, medical based things. We are all at different points along this road some are in active treatment, some are in a holding pattern some have very pro active medical teams that promote a very active follow up and some have dr's that are very laid back about it all and apart from the absolute minimum monitoring appointments a couple of times a year do not advocate any more medical involvement. And then there is the cost factor, some people can only subscribe to the minimum follow up and not elect to include any of the suggested additional specialist visits. This is only my opinion and I really hope I do not offend anyone by expressing it - I would be very unhappy if what I have said upsets anyone.
Had a cartoon moment today - ran out the back door not realising there was ice on the ground and did a great impression of a windmill with my arms and legs flying around in all directions - I was very lucky tho' I didn't fall!!! Would this count as exercise - LOL!!!
Well goodnight my feathered friends - hope this week will be great for everyone.
-
I left off 10 pages ago...well, it was only three days, but I see there's a whole new format. My new digital scale is still in the box (but not for long) and I am sure I will still have the same 3-5 lbs to shed if the waistband on my jeans is any indication. Meece, I will join the FLOCK, as you know I will swoop in from time to time.
Good Luck to All! May the best teams win, er, I mean LOSE!
-
I think I have to agree with Ainm that including all medical appointments could be a slippery slope and quickly become overwhelming for the people who have been gracious enough to be our team leaders. Also, depending on how the teams have been divided, that could really put one team or another at a great advantage/disadvantage based on how many are going through active treatment.
I think I could see preventative examinations being a point each, and MAYBE people who doing active treatment and other recurring doctor's appointments receiving one point per WEEK for keeping all of their appointments (consider that weight loss points are not awarded per day or per pound BUT per week).
There was somone who posted a ways back, forgive me, but I can't remember who, that those who are undergoing active treatment may be at a disadvantage in the exercise department (and rightfully so). Awarding 1 point per week for active treatment I think MAY be a good idea. It would be the equavalent of 30 minutes of exercise for your team! But then how do you balance those that are receiving active treatment and are still hitting it out of the park on the exercise?
I am new to this group and will go along with whatever you all decide! I am in this to lose weight, become healthier and, hopefully, make some new friends along the way!!
Off to drink some more water!!
Not trying to be bossy

Hi Seaside!!!! It great to see you here!
-
Wow this is an active thread... About 2 pages ago I wanted to thank you Meece for adding my weight. And to Sheila for the great picture of the veggies. They made me so hungry for them.
As for breakfast, I have to take Armour the first thing in the morning and have to wait an hour to eat so I make smoothies and take them to work as my breakfast. I use almond milk, usually the chocolate that hasn't had sugar added. I add a powder of freeze dried sprouts and sometimes freeze dried berries. I always add a banana to the mix. When my banana's get ripe rather than putting them in the frig, I peal them, stick them in a ziploc and put them in the freezer. They're great because they don't get brown and they make the smoothie real cold.
In my drawer at work I have it stocked with almond or peanut butter for emergencies. I found rice crackers and use them instead of wheat and keep a stash of those along with packets of plain oatmeal.
-
samsue...you deserve an extra point for that.
Especially freezing the bananas. I dont like them when they get to ripe and it goes in the garbage
What is Armour?
-
Hi Michelle....i missed you. How are you doing?
HUGS
-
OH Ainm my team my team
...♥
What size are your mugs? Of course chamomile tea is considered fluids.
Good Night and Sweet Dreams. You must be sleeping by now. 5 hour difference right?
-
Armour is a thyroid supplement, I take it too...I set my alarm for an hour before I have to wake up, pop my Armour pill and go back to sleep for an hour...I am not pleasant in the morning without my coffee
Doing good Shelia! Thanks for asking (((HUGS)))
-
Sheila - Armour is a thyroid med. The natural one instead of Synthroid.
As for water, sometimes I just need a bit of taste of "something else" in it so I add about a 1/4 cup of juice, usually cranberry or pomegranate to the 16 oz glass. It give it just enough of a taste of the fruit without all the extra sugar.
-
Thanks O2B!
I said over on the quit smoking thread that I was going to get real on weight loss! Figured I would finally put my money where my mouth is!!
I must say posting my weight and seeing my new all time high IN WRITING and IN PUBLIC was very hard, and a bit disheartening, for me! No where to go but up, err, make that down, from here!!!
I posted a note over on the quit smoking thread to see if some of the others may want to join in over here!
-
Love the crane picture Seaside! Go Cranes! I agree, nothing like being accountable to someone and putting everything in writing to see where one is and where one needs to go. I really need to increase my exercise and water intake this week.
-
suzwes,
Thanks! I liked the picture of the crane because, if you look down toward the bottom of it's legs it has some leg bands but, and I may be dating myself here a bit, to me they looked like little leg warmers ala 1980's... lol
-
You ladies take Armour... I take Levothyroxine. I know they say that the Armour is better, but my doc put me on the other for my thyroid.
For all my feathered friends... It's snowing, sleeting and we're having freezing rain here! "Winter storm"... it just started about 20mins ago. Suppose to do this through tomorrow afternoon with wrap around snow Tuesday. Hoping for no power loss or frozen water.
-
Good night birdies!
Here is to a week of making good choices Hummingbirds!
-
Pretty good today although I could have done better. For liquids I'm mixing juice with tonic at 2:1 ratio in a large mug. Just need to increase from about 32 oz/day.
-
Ainm, I agree that preventative healthcare makes more sense than all medical appointments. It was my impression that the suggestion was that Rads was preventative. I like the idea of one point for keeping all the rads appointments in a week. I think the preventative appointments should count as a point, but lets hear from the team leaders.
-
My goodness does this move fast! I don't remember who asked about ideas for salt-substitute ideas. When we had to go low-sodium in our house (really LOW) I was shocked how much sodium is in things you don't realize. Milk. Bread. Frozen Veggies. Tomatoes are terrible! It can also be in meat. Turkey normally has a lot and often it is in chicken too. Read your labels. It all adds up quickly.
We use Mrs. Dash quite a bit in our house. DH loves to snack on peanuts and switched to dry roasted unsalted and they are actually quite good. It might take a few weeks but I can tell you now, that when I eat a piece of bacon (a rare occassion) it is like eating a big stick of salt and not that good.
When DH had to go a very restrictive diet I kept a notebook in the kitchen to track sodium and carbs. I learned very quickly what food choices were not good ones for him (or me) and I ended up losing weight as a result by eating the same way in support.
