Sue: glad you added the "BTW." Was going to ask why so long since seeing your mom. Wondered the same thing re: Brenda, as she mentioned in a posting how long it had been since her mom had been at her house (I think.) I think you might have a new "calling" as a financial advisor for finding medical loopholes for your systerm.
busy busy busy time of year, so no doubt, everyone is too busy to post, but I'd bet everyone is still reading them.
hmmmm...port names: Brumhilda? guess that's too negative, and it needs to be more positive since it is helping you...I do like "Portia." Can't remember who suggested that one.
Happy Thursday! Might end up a snowy Thursday here outside of D.C. Nette
-
Hi girls !
Lots to catch up on.... yes busy time of year like Nette said. Getting ready for Christmas and family visiting. My shopping is not done either, and I cook for 20 on Christmas Day at my home.
Sue ~ glad to hear you sounding good ! AND woo HOO on the DEPORT.
Linda ~ I agree with Nette, I like Portia. Sucks you need another year of the herpecin but if its working we do what we have to do !!!
Nette ~ sorry to hear about your dog's tooth, and hoping for a "clear" mammo ! Keep us posted !
Brenda ~ sounds like Martha Jailbird Stewart has nothing on you in the kitchen !! I am good but not that good... I have to bake 3 dozen cookies for a cookie party Saturday night and then get shopping and ready for Christmas day entertaining here.
Michele ~ how are you doing? You have been quiet, but I can't go back and read either as we have flowed onto another page this am.
To all a group ((((HUG))))
-
I kinda like broomhilda, but Portia is good also! My mom would like that!!!
Funny to me, better to laugh for sure
I'm over the stress of last week & all that cooking, told DH not to hit me up with that ever again. I could do it but prefer NOT to, too, too much work for Not much pay. I only made like $180. If he wasn't so special and dear to my hubby I'd a never done that. Love my hubby though...so for him, I did it with a SMILE on my face..I did enjoy the evening.
Saturday night went to the "Parade of Boats Light Show" in Carrabelle where I live. We went out and watched from a boat ourselves!!! When the last decorated boat passed they started up the fireworks...It was the best display I've ever seen here, the 3rd best overall in my lifetime! And trust me, I've see good ones. What a AWESOME surprise, made my weekend for sure.
Girls, I do get along with my mother!!! Awesome as a matter of fact, but she has been in Portugal for the last 20 years. She was married to a Portuguese man whom was the "El President" (kinda like a Mayor here) of there City where she lived, he passed away earlier this year so she came home to the United States. I was sad for her loss, but glad she's home. She is living with my brother in a small town called Pottersville which is in Upper New York State, near Lake George, beautiful there!!! She and my brother are flying in on the 20th. YEAH!!!!!!! I have missed her a bunch!!!! She had always been my best friend. They are staying in our newly remodeled "Sugar Suite" My first official guests. She hasn't been here since my DH did all the work to our home, she will be VERY impressed for sure. It doesn't at all look the same!
I will be quite busy over the Holidays and have a lot of people showing up for the entire week from Christmas till New Years & after that for 2 weeks. So, I will be reading all posts, but just may not be posting much.
Love to everyone...Happy Holidays & (((((((((((((Warrior Hugs))))))))))))))))) forever

Hey Ladies!! Everyone sounds so busy.
Linda: I am glad to hear that you are getting another year of the Herp. I would welcome that extra insurance. Are you a guinea pig for any studies?? I am in the Altto trial (or maybe Allto, can't remember).
I wish I could report how busy I am, but I am procrastinating... I just can't get it going. Hopefully, it will kick in soon, that working under presure thing.
-
I am procrastinating with you MELINDA!!! What is the Altto trial? Tell us more.
Oh and the talk of mothers ~ ugh ! Not a great relationship with mine. I had her living in my home for 7 years. She has been a widow for 20 years. She is not all there mentally and just was making my life miserable. Whole family decided to hate me when I asked her to move out. I was diagnosed with cancer when no one was speaking to me. Eventually my brother and mother came around. 2 out of 3 brothers still not back with. MIND you NO ONE else would take her... so that says it all. I am still the one that does everything for her. Well sorry to ramble. Just feel the urge to share. To those of you with a good relationship with your mom cherish it ! It is something really special ~ I am thankful I have a great relationship with my DD.
-
Alicia,
It is wonderful you have such a precious daughter. I never had any girls. so, I am glad I have my mom again to be close with. So, much easier with her back in the States. Cheerish it I DO!
It's funny because I take care of my (crazy) dad and my brother takes care of my mom...Yet I was always close to her and him close to dad. So, we both do our share. Only my younger sissy gets away with doing nothing and always beig excused for her wrongful actions (so to speak).
-
The Altto trial is looking at the difference between herceptin/tykerb/herp+tykerb. Being in the study didn't affect my treatment, the computer gave me the herp arm of the study. But I will be followed for 10 years to see how herp results differ from tykerb results.
I can relate with the family dysfunction complicated by cancer crap. A few months before I was diagnosed, my sister and I became estranged when she started sleeping with a neighbor's husband and decided to leave her family.
It has been a major, major issue, the whole family torn apart. Sister went ballistic during Thanksgiving yelling how my cancer inconvenienced my Mom since I needed rides to chemo and crap. She remarried last week, a month after her divorce was final.
-
Hi Ladies!!!
I am so bad about checking on everyone regularly but I hope all of you are doing well!
I have enlarged nodes in my neck and groin with some other issues so I will be getting a pelvic US and endometrial biopsy next week. FUN, FUN...I just love to hear the words "biopsy" these days. If all is good then I am scheduled for an oophorectomy (I think that is right) on 1/18. She said she would just take out my uterus while she was there so I said, WTH....go ahead!
Happy Holidays, love you all!

(((((((((((((TOYAH)))))))))))))))
so sorry for this news...we will all be thinking positive vibes and lour prayers are with you!
Try to keep us up with the goings on, you are one of us and we will always be sisters!
What did you notice that had you get your nodes checked in your neck? did you have pain or anything changes going o that where visibly noticeable?
Melinda, what a jerkyou sister was being for telling YOU of all people about inconvenience....as if we all plan to have our cancer issues!!!!!!!!!~~~~~How cold!
-
Brenda- It started with swollen/painful nodes in my groin area. Per my bloodwork, I am officially in menopause so when I started bleeding heavily for over two weeks, my gyn was concerned. Went for a check-up today and she noticed the nodes in my neck were enlarged (I had no idea) and she had some other concerns after the exam. So...I'm not sure what is going on but whatever it is, my breasts don't appear to be involved I don't think...?
-
My mother acted like - how could I do that to her - getting breast cancer. It's all about her and always has been. There is no normal conversation just criticism and complaint. I didn't tell her about it until after I had the surgery last year and she was upset because I told my cousin in New Zealand before I told her. Well my cousin has had bc twice in the same breast and had a mastectomy and her Mum died from bc at 49. Of course she would be the first one I reached out to. She went on how she was the last to know, but I told her my brother over in the US actually was the last
I had seen her in the past 2 years - she came up here to visit when I was having chemo but didn't stay long and went off in a huff after I asked her to stop saying nasty things about her sister. She lives on the Gold Coast - only 1 hour drive away.
Her sister is more like a Mum to me - such a level headed lovely lady and Mum can't stand it that I get on with her so well.
Enough of the family issues - I'm off to see the surgeon today. I hope she takes the dressing off the port wound - it looks like they've knicked my skin when they put it on and my skin is reacting to the dressing so it's a bit pink - but it doesn't hurt!!! Boob is starting to feel better - the antibiotics must be working.
I made an appt to see big onc on the 29th to let him review the path on Bonnie - he can fill me in on all the news from San Antonio. Also want to show him last year's mammo.
Xmas just isn't happening here - we have no one but us and the cat. DD and husband in Argentina on holiday - son in London. I have convinced my mother to come for Xmas breakfast. She's been invited to some people that have little kids and that would be so much nicer than sitting around complaining to us
so she can stop here on the way to them hopefully for a very short while.
Sue
-
The surgeon doesn't need to see me for 4 months - so that's good. She gave me some antibiotic ointment for the skin on my chest and the scar that she fixed the other day. So all is good on that front. We've decided on alternate 6 monthly (US and Mammo) and MRI for follow up.
Nette: Did you get your mammo results? I can't remember if you told us.
Hope you girls aren't freezing too much over there. It's been absolutely stinking hot here with thunderstorms everyday.
Sue
-
Mammo results were good. No change in the calcifications from June. BS officially "released" me into the care of my prim. dr. for her to order the mammos from now on. I'll have my next one in June when I get both sides mammo'ed and will be annually from then on. Thanks for all the "good luck" wishes!!! DH was going to meet me at the office but he ended up taking me due to the 1 1/2" of snow we got yesterday afternoon. It worked out because I needed to take .5 mg of Ativan to calm me down a bit.
Everyone have a great weekend!!! Nette
-
Great news Nette!!!!
Sue
-
Nette, Can't remember ifi I said this already, but woohoo. Damn old Chemo brain.
-
thank you thank you thank you.
On tap for today, baking my a$$ off. Wrapping on Monday when DS is at school.
Have a great day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Toyah ~ ugh !!! Hoping all is fine ~ keep us posted. Will keep you in my prayers.
Nette ~ great news on the mammo.
Have a great day girls,
Alicia

Re: Toyah..."An oophorectomy procedure is the surgical removal of the ovaries. During this surgery either one ovary (unilateral oophorectomy) or both ovaries (bilateral oophorectomy) are removed. This surgery may also include removal of the fallopian tubes (salpingo-oophorectomy) or may be done during a total hysterectomy, where the uterus is also removed." (I figured I wasn't the only one who had never heard of this procedure.)
Hope everyone had a good, productive weekend. Alicia did some serious baking, according to fb.
DD and I baked 5 kinds of cookies for a total of 12 doz. or so cookies. Also got some movie watching in, gift wrapping, and laundry. Yep: just call me Susy Homemaker (For those of you too young to know who she was, there was a little girl toy baking "appliance" many years ago that was called a Susy Homemaker oven that baked with a light bulb.)
hmmmm. Can't remember if anyone has any procedures this week. Hopefully not.
Happy Monday!!! Nette
-
Nette, I had the easy bake oven...That is until I burned my hand on the light bulb that baked the cake. So my grandfather cut the cord off the thing, then I had a rectangle box with a slit in the side...Boohoo.
I too baked my bunz off yesterday. I completed my shopping and now I am ready for xmas....Woohoo. This year is a little sad. My mom who always comes here for xmas is not coming. And to top it all off, my DD found out the truth about Santa....Boohoo (x2).
-
YES ! I had the good old Easy Bake oven too ~ I think they still sell it.
I cooked and baked all weekend. My daughter has a cold, so homemade chicken soup was brewing, meatballs and sauce for football yesterday, also baked cookies for a cookie exchange party ~ and made extra's! Now today I am wrapping. I have treated myself to a little Christmas present, I am going to the dr to get me some botox ! A friend of ours is a plastic surgeon and offered to do it at a discount. (I asked of course) So Merry Christmas to me ~ Hope it is worth it. Hubby is ready to kill me. We aren't exchange so I told him he bought me this for Christmas. HEHEHEHEE
Hope everyone enjoyed the weekend and has a productive week!
HUGS,
Alicia

I've been on and off these boards since Thanksgiving. Too much cooking, travelling, and working. Let's see if I can catch up? Guess what, had my first haircut! LOL. It's nice to have a style and not have chemo hair anymore. They grey will stay!
Brenda, I'll be in Melbourne, FL on Thursday. Save me some FL sunshine!
Toyah, how are you doing? I'm sending cyber hugs to you, Sister dear!
Sue, sounds like you're moving right along! Enjoy the heat
Nette, congrats on no Whammies! Sounds like you could be an MD!
Alicia, I still have the scar from an Easy Bake oven when I was a kid. Libby asked for one, and I thought no way! She cooks with me in the kitchen. You go, girl, on the Botox!!
Melinda, no, I'm not in any trials. I am still considered NED, so I just do my maintenance of Herp & Zometa. I may be able to end that as I've taken a year of it, plus had my sternum zapped!
Michele, all this baking is making me crave lemon sugar cookies. Yummy! How old is your daughter. Mine is 7 and still believes. Shoot, I still believe to some extent!
When it comes to mothers, I hit the jackpot! I'd be lost without her. She has done so much for me. She really is my best friend. She went through chemo is 1996 & 2002, and I went with her to all her treatments. I think she'd still switch places with me if she could! I love my hubby very much, but I want my mama when it comes to this stuff! Alicia, I'm glad you and your daughter are very close. I hope Libby and I are that close when she gets older.
Love to all!

Just popping in to say hey to my "sisters". We are knee deep in mess here.... we are redecorating, the girls are getting their own bedroom for Christmas. They have shared a room all their lives. So I am moving down to the den so they can have their own rooms. We are painting and refinishing furniture and moving everything around. What a mess. There is crap everywhere!!
And there is no sign of Christmas in my house, no tree, no stockings, no cookies. The kids thought I was being a scrooge until they saw how much work this was going to be. But they have been helping and are starting to get excited. They confessed that they really didn't think I would be able to pull this off. But, one room is painted and the second one will get finished today. I have all my stuff moved out. Moving the bunkbeds will be the toughest part.
The kids will meet the beau tomorrow. He has a truck and will help me get the boxspring I bought home.
My 11yo DD is having fun, she painted her light switch plate to match her bedding and is adding all those cute little decorative touches, she watches a lot of home shows!
My 13yo is excited to have a teenage room all to herself! She wanted the walls painted black, we compromised on dark purple.
Hope everyone is great, have a wonderful holiday!!
-
Melinda: Sounds like fun!!! Good that the beau is finally meeting the girls - hope it goes well. He can help move the beds - that's what big stong guys are for.
We've had lots of rain here and it will continue right through Christmas - I love it!!! I managed to vacuum the whole house yesterday but didn't wash any floors - can't be bothered. It looks fine but DH keeps getting growled at for tracking in leaves.
I've got all of the food ready for Xmas - just have to do some prep work on Friday. We're having a cold lunch but I have salad dressings to make and the little tart cases to bake. I'm making leek and egg tarts for breakfast. I can get the cases done the day before.
DH's vehicle has worn brake pads and the guy told him not to drive it, so I had to get everything I needed early so he can steal my car for golf - although I doubt he'll play today due to the constant rain.

Hi girls,
Well all my family is here, my mom, my sons and their wives and my 4 grandchildren. They all got in late last eve. I sure wished I didn't have to work today!!!! So, I have 13 sleepig beauties at the house right at the moment, I left all sound asleep. I left it up to my middle boy to do breakfast for his Grandmother and the rest of the group, as my DH doesn't know how to cook what so ever and I'm not there to do it. Once today is over o more work till Jan. 3rd. Yippee. Can't wait for a few quality days with my mom. It is so good to see her!!!!
Wishing all of you ladies the Merriest of Holidays and a very Happy New Year!!!!

Well girls - Xmas is all over for us. We had a lovely breakfast (cooked by me) and a delicious lunch, now it's time for a nap - too much wine. My mother was here for breakfast and there were just the 2 of us for lunch, but it was a feast and really yummy if I may say so myself. Lots of left overs for the coming days. It was really strange - the first time we have been alone for Xmas lunch. DD has been ordered to attend for the next 10 years or else.
The rain held off and it was a bit humid but we coped ok - I wish we had snow like you guys. My brother called from near Seattle and he said they have had lots of rain.
Love you all - felicitations
Sue
-
Hope everyone had a wonderful and safe holiday!
