The last time I read the thread was about 11 this morning. None of the posts at that time were mean or offensive. The last post I read was by someone with a male screen name (can't remember exactly). He posted he was a dentist with insurance experience. I know...huh?

Did any of you read it too? It wasn't offensive but kind of weird... I didn't respond to it...and at that point no one else had either.

Laura .. I responded to him about our county health dental care ... and then the thread was gone.

OMG -- Jim's not pleased and Shirley's running around without her underpants!

Yeah, that was weird about the guy posting.  I always wonder about first time posters being on the healthcare thread.  You'd think they'd be more more concerned about their breasts when first joining.

I go for the "What's On Your Mine" thread.  That way even Melissa will not be able to figure out which threads are off topic.  BTW,  I'm the original "Ya'll" gal.  I once got a great job in New York with a "Famous" Washington person because he heard me say "ya'll" in my interview and was looking for a Southerner to hire as a secretary.  He was Southern too and just missed his "ya'lls". That job was a  ball and he paid me too!Wink

I think our new thread can be more fun than the one that got deleted if we work it right.  Maybe we can even sneak in a cuss word or two!  (Just kidding, I think!)

Strange, wasn't it, Konakat? At first I wondered if it was you-know-who again, but then I decided that our conversation on transplants and end of life, having broadened a bit, attracted some spam poster and that was that.

Really weird how things happen. Just when you let down your guard.....

Great idea of a "like" button, Lago - I wish BCO had those. Honestly, we may have been an argumentative thread, but we had viewers! About 70,000 (probably not unique users) when I last checked. I am sure we all learned a lot.

So many of us here are past out initial treatment, but we don't necessarily want to have a nice little sewing circle. We want to LIVE.

Shirley, maybe I should move over to your neck of the woods? Or Laura? Hope you don't both flee. :-) My point is, DC is too liberal and commiserating with one's ideological bedfellows gets boring after a while.

It's hard to have an argument here. My neighborhood is full of four-way stop signs and at the height of the Iraq way this most tony of areas actually had - VANDALISM - in the form of stickers saying "The War" over where it should say "4-Way." It took the massive exodus of Hurricane Katrina to finally come across a conservative bumper sticker in my street - a Haley Barbour sticker - right outside of my apartment building. I had to do a double-take on that one. They must have gotten the culture shock of their lives too.

I like "What's on Your Mind?" but here are two more:

    "Mind Over Matters"

    "Mind Your Matters"

with the caveat that any negative references to politicians living, lying or dead are not allowed!

We still have a lot to talk about, don't we?

    How about "Mind Your Manners"

    How about the

    "I miss the healthcare thread"

    thread?

    Anyone feeling withdrawal symptoms? Bren?

I just now checked in and saw that the thread was gone.  What a shame.  There was so much information there, and it was ALWAYS provocative.

I'm game to migrate wherever the rest of the group decides to go.

Why did the "delete police" delete all these old posts?  It makes no sense whatsoever.  Now all of these gals are on a 5 posting limit and they didn't do anything wrong ... nor were their old posts offensive.

I'm feeling quite hateful right now.

Well, I for one, miss the Health care thread. I found it to be interesting, amusing and I even got some great belly laughs from reading the opinions of some of my more liberal (progressive) sisters. The beauty of it is that we all have our opinions but we do not have to agree.

The biggest issue on the thread was the proselytizers wanting to try to 'convert' the 'pagan' to their way of thinking. Not gonna happen.

I value different opinions and occasionally, I even agree with my more liberal sisters.

So, to whomever the deleters are, try to find something more productive to do with your (obviously too much) time.

Barbara .. I agree with you .. and amazingly I sometimes agreed with my right of center friends.  I read all the health care posts and links .. no matter who posted them.  There was always something new to learn.

Yep .. I really don't understand going back deleting old posts.  It just seems so strange.

    Oh well ...

Will someone please advise me who is this "Community" that goes out in the dark of night or with dark hoods in the day and deletes posts??  Haven't the Mods understood by now they are trouble makers who want to destroy our threads and the Mods are helping them by allowing this.  That is very unfair to the majority of us who have been trying sooooo hard to post without abusing each other.  When they can find something wrong with "Blue Dalia's" post, we are really in trouble!  Why can't the Mods catch on to what the troublemakers are doing and refuse to join in their sad actions of deleting our posts?  Now I read certain people have been limited to only a small number of posts. What is coming next?  A trip to the woodshed!  BTW, you can hide under different cowardly names all you want but WE know who you are and sooner or later, so will the Mods!

    Hi MediGal ..

I think Melissa (the mod) can figure out from the deleted posts who it is.  It's against the rules of BCO to just willy nilly delete posts for no good reason.  I know someone who got banned from hitting that delete button too often.

Hope you're having a good day!

I think we all need to advise Melissa about this.  I'm sure she's at home for the weekend (hope so, anyway, for her sake!) so perhaps we could email her on Monday?

And yes, it's amazing what can be "uncovered" on the server!  The perpetrator/abuser canot hide; there are no secrets anymoreWink.

I am all over letting her know. This is just wrong. The new thread, 'you say goodby' has already had several deleted posts and that is just flat out wrong. We do have freedom of speech in this country (for now) and also we should have it on this forum. This is a safe place for us to let loose and vent and whatever.

I am all for letting Melissa know.  I don't see why we have to wait until Monday.  We can post it to her Mod PM and she will have them (hopefully) waiting for her to read Monday.  I think I will go find her PM and get mine to her now.  I do hope some of you follow me and have them on there at least by Monday.  We have to let the "deletee troublemakers" know we will not sit back and just let this continue.  Thanks!

    Barbara -- It's "Moderators".

I just sent my message to Melissa.  I went to the My Home at top of screen where topics are listed and it brings up your page info and I found the Moderators sig and there is a place on the side which gives you a chance to PM Melissa.  I clicked it and the box came up for the heading and the message.  I hope you can get yours through also.

OK, I went and sent my mesage to Melissa. I basically told her the trolls have multiple screen names and delete posts that differ from their views. I pointed out that we all have our own views but we are not trying to convert people to our way of thinking. We are having an adult, honest discussion of many different issues.

I also said that perhaps allowing members to delete posts after 5 reports is maybe not such a hot idea but maybe it really is.... ???

BarbaraA, that's a tough one.  IMO, the "5 report-this-posts and you're out" rule does serve a purpose . . . it's a way to quickly remove spam, or delete truly hateful posts (e.g., imagine if one of the Westboro Baptist Church crowd were to lob a few dirtballs here) without burdening the moderator.  But that assumes every member of the community is acting like, well, a member of a community.  Sadly, that's not the case.  Hence the abuse.  I do think the pattern is clear enough at this point for the mod's to step in and identify the abusers.

Here's a thought: in NYC, the dept of sanitation puts huge, day-glo stickers on the windows of vehicles that are illegally parked on street-cleaning days.  The stickers are virtually impossible to remove (sometimes you'll see where someone has tried, and failed, to scrape it off with a razor).  They say something like "This street could not be cleaned because this vehicle was illegally parked."  We could do something similar here.  Instead of banning folks, how about programming in an indelible tag on all their posts saying something like, "I am a coward who has abused the "report this post" button to harass other members of this community."  In other words: public shaming!!

    Just a thought . . .

Lewing:  I don't know about using your exact words but maybe something by their name so the rest of us will know who the abusers are.  Public shaming isn't going to work unless the Mods take control of these people and see that they are stopped.  Just my opinion.

When Melissa sees all the deleted folks, she'll be able to tell who keeps hitting the delete button.  I imagine the same names will keep showing up.  I sure hope she doesn't shut down our new thread ... I'm really enjoying it!

Unfortunately, while I hate the delete and 5 post rule, I also understand why.  Hopefully we can get Melissa's help somehow to solve the problem constructively but I wouldn't want to go back to the days of no 5 post limitation.  It can get really bad where the entire board is shut down by spam or hate messages.

I understand the reasoning for the 5 post rule too.  Keeps the spammers under control.

I'm sure Melissa can see who is hitting the "report this post" button .. and I imagine she's well aware of who is abusing that function.  There must be some way to check by IP address rather than screen name.  It's so easy to get lots of different screen names.

Hopefully, we'll hear from Melissa today.

WHAT is this 5 post rule??  I have never understood that.  Do I have to count my posts to each thread and make sure I don't go over 5 each per day?  I am a regular motor mouth and think I go over 5 a lot or maybe not but I thought that was just for newbies.  Thanks!
