Fellow "deletees"
I'm not seeing the "Healthcare in America vs Other Countries" thread anymore. Did something really terrible happen in the last half hour, or did we break the terms of our parole? I'd be interested to hear about the benefits of erasing an entire thread that made many of us get away from cancer worries, created friendships amongst women who are normally segregated by cancer stage, and was, frankly, no more argumentative than some of the other threads out there. Did someone quietly petition the moderators? Or is it BCOs policy to be a consensus enforcer?

Athena .. I can't find it either. I didn't think there was any trouble. I had just posted on that thread about dental care.
I'm really sorry it's gone. It's one of the few I read every day.
Maybe we can start a new thread on current events.

I'm game :-)
-
Maybe we could put it in the Moving Beyond forum?
-
Good thought.
-
And maybe we could put some kind of disclaimer on the thread .. you know . . beware, fighting and brawling allowed .. enter at your own peril!
-
Exactly!
-
The Suzanne Somers thread was removed also. The moderators don't believe we can think for ourselves.
-
Well, we ARE guests on this website and, while I agree that the Healthcare thread was stimulating and I learned a lot, I think the Mods feel that partisan politics just doesn't belong here. Leading up to the 2008 elections, there were two distinct political party threads, with crossovers that got hot, heavy and rather nasty. The Mods finally shut down the thread in disgust!
The Healthcare thread was never meant to be partisan, merely educational, especially as the Affordable Care Act was being discussed in Congress.
Unfortunately, VERY FEW minds are ever changed by those espousing their political opinions! I wonder if recreating pages of newspapers and articles was taking up too much space on BCO's server????
We were just getting into a very serious subject -- end of life care --- that we ALL need to consider, so I'm disappointed for that reason especially that the thread was shut down (gone POOF, as someone said!).
-
I never set out to change anyone's mind. That was never the goal. I just enjoyed the discussion, even when it got a little crazy. Besides .. how I am going to keep up with Shirley now.
I realize this is a breast cancer website .. and I've been a member for 3 1/2 years .. but I really had moved beyond some of the regular topics ... and I'm tired of doing crafts.
The alternative forum was interesting reading, although I rarely participated on those threads. Lots of heated topics .. just like there are still some hot topics on the board now.
EDITED: Maybe we could put a new topic in the depression forum .. cause it helps my depression to have something else to think about ... and take my mind of my troubles.
-
Bren, the depression forum!!!???? LOL For some of us this little outlet of ours helped our depression. However, it can also cause depression for some.
And no, we were not going to change each other's minds.
I guess I can take off my big girl panties now.
I think I'll go check on Elizabeth (Konakat).
-
How about the Fitness forum? I'm (half) dead serious! Healthy minds equals healthy bodies, and juices in the brain keeps all the other bad things up there silent.
Checking on KK too....
-
This is appalling!! I feel like I am living in some commie country without freedom of speech! As usual just like in the commie countries, a "few" whinning trouble makers can run to the higher ups and make trouble for the majority who are enjoying a great thread.. If I go to a party and people are doing things I don't approve of, "I" leave. I don't complain to the party giver and make he/she shut it down! Well evidentally the "tattletails" are proud of themselves but the rest of us will just find another thread to enjoy ourselves on and I just hope they don't follow us! Free speech is only free on here if you follow "all" their rules. Not the American way in my opinion. Whatever takes my mine OFF of thinking about bc is good HEALTHCARE, Imo!
-
Yes, it is appalling. It's treating us like children.
-
Medigal .. as usual .. you tickle me. I don't think anyone was tattling .. I think Melissa was just now getting around to deleting the thread. Too bad though, like Athena said, we were having a very good discussion on end of life issues.
Fitness forum sounds good .. maybe we could go under the radar in that forum.
I think if we could all promise not to use the "Delete this post" button, we should be okay. We can discuss things, fuss and fight if need be ... and nobody gets removed or tattles to Melissa. We just need some good, broad rules for ourselves. Tempers are going to flare and if we understand that in advance and act with a little restraint, I think we'll be okay.
I like the idea of having a current events topic.
-
Bin: The only posts I delete are my own. Sometimes I reread them and decide I just don't want to bare that much of myself to the world. Remember "outsiders" can read our stuff too! I really don't want to fight with anybody on here. Maybe due to my emotional state, my typing sometimes comes out like I am arguing but to me I am really being really nice (for "me"!)
I like your idea about going under the radar and making up some rules for ourselves. We just won't tell nice Melissa what the rules are so if we keep her confused she will leave us alone and delete other threads. Have a nice day!
-
Medigal .. sometimes my words come out wrong ... it's so easy to forget the other person can't "see" my facial expressions or hear the inflection in my voice.
hugs to you,
Bren

YA'LL (southern) are too funny. I wonder if some "outsider/s" squealed. I can't believe those of us who participated on that thread were the culprit. Each of us knew how important it was to us to keep the thread alive. Or, like Bren said, Melissa just got around to deleting it. That's hard to believe, but she never did come back and say one way or another what she was going to do. But, on the other hand she could perhaps have been waiting for ANOTHER complaint. I'm confused...LOL
-
Shirley .. y'all are funny about outsiders squealing! I don't want to lose touch with my friends on that thread. Y'all kept me company during the day!
-
Gee....I hate when that happens. All my smart-ass comments "Gone with the wind".
-
P.S. Jim is not pleased.
-
I'm thinking Athena's idea of the exercise forum is a good idea ... I need to exercise my brain.
-
Sounds like a plan.
-
Maybe we can put a warning in the opening post like they do in the drug commercials. If you have an ere.... err a problem with this discussion, for more than 4 hours, turn off your computer. hehe
-
"Frontal Lobe Fitness"
"Mental Flexibility"
others?
-
bawhahaha .. "Frontal Lobe Fitness" gets my vote!
-
"In rare instances, fatal cases of sock puppeting have been reported. DON'T ask the moderators if a brain energizing thread is right for you...."
So what do we call it: "the Neuro-Fitness Thread?
-
I think, therefore I am (fill in the blank)?
-
The NeurOTIC Fitness thread???
-
I like that one Bren.
Or we can go totally undercover and call it "Alien vs. Predator".
-
"Maybe we could put it in the Moving Beyond forum?"
Where's the "like" button?
