    Saw a friend yesterday who recently had surgery for prostate cancer.  We were chatting, and I mentioned this thread.  His wife told me of all the folks who've shared stories that end with the husband dying; he said one guy told him he'd known 6 men with pc, "and they're all dead, every one."  We had a good chuckle.

    Just caught up on the last few days on here.  OMG, thanks for all the laughs!  I have so many snappy comebacks in my repertoire now! Laughing  Especially liked "This is my friend.  She's on the rag."  (Or perhaps it was worded a bit differently.)  

    NativeMainer- Loved your "upsetting my calm" expression!  Might have to steal that one!

    We could combine prostate month with Thanksgiving and the theme could be "save the giblets."

    Although I do like save the salamis. Nice ring to it.

    The "upsetting my calm" line comes from a favorite movie of mine, Serenity.  In the movie it's hilarious, but it has a number of other uses as well!

    so many good choices! though as I recall, the surgery does NOT involve the salamis so we can all breathe a sigh of relief or something............ I think protect the erector set is not a bad option---isn't there an issue with function as the situation progress?

    Protect the peckers might be good but as its November mightn't we confuse people into thinking we are promoting saving Turkeys from dinner?

    Back to the subject of dumbest things…

    Just yesterday I was talking to my neighbor who is a headhunter. Told her I was going to be looking for a job as soon as chemo was over. She knows I was laid off this year. She starts telling me that Obama's current health plan is going to be repealed and that even if I land a job an employer can choose not to insure me. Not so sure this is true but why is she telling me this?

    Obviously there are not enough months in the year, not to mention hours in the day.

    November is Diabetes Awareness Month, Prematurity Awareness Month, and Alzheimer's Disease Awareness Month.


    Other causes celebrated this month include Lung Cancer Awareness Month, National Hospice Month, National Novel Writing Month, National Family Caregivers Month, National Inspirational Role Models Month, National American Indian Heritage Month, National Adoption Month, National Pancreatic Cancer Month and Military Family Appreciation Month.

    i really need your stories today, gals. feeling dumpy AND stupid..this short memory thing is getting to me.. i'vehad stupid ple make many stupid remarks, but, most times i can either see that they were trying, and they suffer from footn mouth disease, or i consider the source. i, too, am looking for a new hairdresser. my last one said " oh, goodness, your big boobs and your long red hair has been your calling card for years! whatever will you do now?  yeah...exactly....

    lago- i am not sure on the rules regarding coverage and I'd be surprised if the health plan got repealed. but the real point is why say something so pessimistic to you- saying well you might be screwed even if you do get a job.

    I got laid off last year as well and have a few more months of COBRA and then...? me or my hubby better find a job with health coverage for me.

    I looked online for info on your question - can a new employer deny coverage based on medical history? I found the statement below at : http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/faqs/faq_consumer_hipaa.html

    Can a plan deny benefits for chronic illnesses or injuries, like carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer using a preexisting condition exclusion?
    It depends on whether you received medical advice, care, diagnosis, or treatment within the 6 months prior to enrolling in a new employer's plan. If you did, you can be subject to a preexisting condition exclusion.

    this makes no sense- is regular follow up considered care? I know this question really belongs on another thread, but you got me wondering now. still your headhunter friend should be more sensitive- there probably are instances where they can deny coverage, mainly if you have a lapse in coverage- my understanding was that if you maintain continous coverage, you couldn't be denied benefits.

    Alyad Yes my point was regardless if the law did get repealed or if what she is saying is even true this was a stupid pessimistic thing  to say.

    BTW our cobra runs out at the end of April. We have already applied for the high risk pool insurance in our state. Expensive but cheaper than no insurance at all. I still have Herceptin, hormone suppression therapy to do and I don't know where I'll be in the reconstruction process by May. If I have to liquidate my 401Kfor this insurance that's what I'll do.
