Meece - that IS a great job at pumpkin carving - very arty. Our family don't do Halloween mainly because we have always lived in a rural area and that doesn't lend itself to walking around houses.  A few people do it in town but most don't.

The cold Southerly wind has gone - yay -and it was a hot breezy day on the tennis court today.  Didn't even have to wear my vest over my tennis clothes!  After 6 months last summer without appreciable rain and nothing but rain this winter we are hoping for a more reasonable season this summer.

I used to live a mile from my nearest neighbor.  When the boys were young we went to my parents' house, where I had grown up, to trick or treat.  They carved pumpkins with Papa.

Meece:  EX-cellent job on your pumpkin carving, it's gorgeous!

Gosh, too cold in FLORIDA to have trick-or-treaters?????   :O   lol...and here we are in the NorthEast with bundled up kids and ice pellets!  (okay, only got one kid who came)   ~juli

We are also "supposed" to have a bad winter, we had a gorgeously hot dry summer, so guess we're in for it.  We get mostly cold/ice, but where I'm from in Central NY, they get heavy snow/lake-effect (tad warmer there).   I DO NOT MISS SNOWWWWWWW....but yes, we also get hammered with Nor'Easters here and heavy snows sporadically.  ~juli

The weather man just said we would experience 3 seasons this week. Summer, fall and winter. some snow flurries expected in the higher elevations by the end of the week.

lvtwoqlt:  Is that normal for you in NC?  I'd be thinking it would be that way in the Fall for you?  Last week we had the 3 seasons, 75 one day, 50's, then 40's with sleet/ice pellets.  We do get that in the Fall for sure.  LOVE the cooler weather, though, gotta say!  :)    ~juli

Last week it snowed within thirty mies of here.

Tomorrow is supposed to be in the 80s.  I think our thermometers might as well be yoyos.

Juli normally we have a longer fall temps than one week. Where I live our November temps are usually mid 30's as lows and mid to upper 60's for highs. This week our high temps won't get out of the 50's. Our winters are not normally extreme - no natural snow until January although they try to get the ski slopes around Boone (upper elevations) opened for Thanksgiving with man-made snow.

    Mumayan:  GORGEOUS picture, thx!

lvtwoqlt/Sheila:  Thank you for describing your area's weather.  We who have never been that far South (other than Florida's DisneyWorld) have no idea.   That doesn't sound bad at all, and nice you have the ski slopes as well.  Do you ski?   I used to downhill ski (loved it, but can't abide heat NOR cold anymore).   Sunny and 40's today, to be 50 and rain later in week, not bad at'tall.

I grew up up in north eastern Washington where we often had snow in November and temps below zero.  Summer temps were often in the 90's would spike into the 100's.  As soon as I graduated from college I moved to western Washington for the milder weather.  Summers high's usually range from 70 to low 80's, winter lows rarely drop below 30.  Much more comfortable and I don't miss the ice and snow at all.  Nor do I mind the rain.

Thanks for all of the congratulations on my newest baby granddaughter.  She is so cuddly - I had so much fun with her this past weekend.

We're very cold here in Mid Michigan.  Lows have been in the low 20s at night - thick heavy frost in the morning and our highs have been in the 40s.  I am freezing.  We're supposed to have our first snow on Friday.  I could do without it but know that in Michigan we're lucky we've waited this long without at least a trace of snow.

The ski slopes are actually about 30 miles from my house but at the higher elevations. I don't ski due to a bad back and I don't like being out in the cold longer than I have to.

I have never had the opportunity to ski, but I hate being damp and cold, so I guess I don't miss it either.

Bobby - your winter and summer temps are pretty much the same as mine - it's very easy to live in that sort of climate. .

I don't ski either although the slopes are only 3 hours away. I went once and I was soaking and cold on the outside but my internal temp was the opposite from the effort - didn't enjoy it one bit.  I have never been again - I'm with you Meece - warm dry suits me!

I'm longing for 65 degrees Meece.  We were warmer this morning and now at 10:00 am we're up above freezing - 34 degrees.  That's supposed to be our high for tomorrowCry along with the possibility of some of the "S" word!  I'm looking foward (finally) to an uneventful weekend and glad my weekend starts after work today - one thing about the cold - it forces me to stay inside and do some organizing of my house.  I really need to do some purging.

Woke to predicted rain but reasonably warm. Friday morning here.  It is Guy Fawkes day for us and people with kids usually celebrate it with fireworks at home but there won't be any of that tonight.  Fine by tomorrow night so it will be loud and sparkly.  My dog goes CRAZY at the firework noises especially the big booms and the wheeeizzzzfft sounds - barks his head off - I am glad when it is all over.

Rae, my dog cowers and shakes in a corner with firework noises.  She is quite afraid of everything!  Enjoy the fireworks and the warmth.

We got 28/100" of rain last night and we have got 16/100" since I came to bed an hour ago.  It may prove to be a good water year for us.  we could sure use it.

We have had the highest temp in NZ for 3 days running - 73oF!  Nice! Sunny for tennis today but my team got thrashed.  Lots of aches now though - Voltaren I took this morning has run out and I am waiting for the next one to kick in - but worth it - smashing tennis balls around for 3 hours does good things for your psyche!

We have no prospect of any precipitation this week, we are 4 inches below normal for the year in rain fall. The leaves are falling as well as the temps. The temps in the morning are closer to December temps rather than November temps (lows in the upper 20's-low 30's) and they got snow in the upper elevations but the ski resorts like that. I ordered a delivery of Kerosene that will be delivered today but my monitor heater won't start! I have a borrowed oil radiant heater to keep the house bearable until I can get a service tech in to work on it.

It is 58 this morning at 5:20.  We ended up with another 28/100 over night.  That puts us over 1/2 inch over the weekend.  That is a lot for us.

Eph, Maybe I sleep outside. or maybe not.  I have an electronic rain monitor and the reciever sits on my bedroom dresser.  We are at 94/100 for this rain season, June-May.
