    we had 16/100 last night, along with horrible winds.  I got up at 3 to make sure my greenhouse was still standing.  I reinforced it a year or so ago when parts of my green house landed in yards on other streets.

    I posted this on another thread I started, but thought it fit here as well:

    God created rainy days so gardners could get their housework done.

    Small storm predicted for tonight, "major storms" predicted tomorrow evening through Tues eve.  Probable power outages. Typical winter weather.

    Back into my winter clothes again today, even have my woolly slippers on!  An intense anticyclone is over us so it is fine but it is dragging up very cold air from the South and blasting us with a strong wind.  Meant to reach a high of 66 but with the wind chill it feels like about 50.  Just as well I have work that is keeping me at my computer today.  The first day of my summer ladies interclub tennis season tomorrow so I hope it warms up a bit before then!

    Oh man, I feel sorry for you ladies in those severe climates.  How do you deal with arse deep snow? I see the snow from a distance every now and then if I travel South in the winter but in it - no way.

    I'm in Ocean Shores.  In the 20 years we've lived here there have only been 3 with significent snow but they are predicting plenty here for this year too.

    Yesterday it was in the 60's, rainy and humid.  This morning I get up to sleet, now it's snowing!  Enough to stick and look very pretty, but I hope it doesn't stay too long, yet.  Still got outside stuff to do before full winter sets in.  So odd to have been sitting on the back deck in the lawn chair yesterday afternoon, watching the same deck and chair collect snow this morning. . .

    I live in an area that rarely gets any measurable snow.  About ten years ago we had a storm come through and drop about 4-6 inches.  We were so ill prepared for snow that it shut everything down.  No school, and absolutely no driving.  It took hours for the snow plows to get down from the roads they usually patrol about 20 miles away, to clear the main highways.

    I forced the kids to play outside as long as I could, because I knew they wouldn't experienced it again anytime soon.

    Here in Toronto (Canada) we had snow this morning. Just ever so slight - didn't stick. I thought - too bad for the little ones Trick 'n Treating tonight. They have snow suits under their costumes. It's hard to be a "princess" with a snow suit under your "gown".

    Ok, I feel I have to jump in here.  I live in an area where we don't wear closed shoes in the winter, just socks with something that slips onCool  I've lived all over from Hawaii, to upstate NY to Connecticutt, to Oklahoma and of course the southeast region of the US.  I'm a southern girl and only want to live in the deep south where it does not get too cold.  We had an especially longer, colder winter last year.  From what we've heard, it killed off a good bit of the python population in the Everglades which was a good thing.  They are predicting another cold winter here this year too.  Cold here means it kills off my summer flowers (annuals and perrineals), but they come back anyway. 

    DH is being promoted to a national job and will have to live part time in Hampton, VA and part time here in Tampa.  I'll visit him in the summers, but not so much the winters.

    Mary, I live in Florida too, I don't like the thought of another cold winter. WE had the furnace on for so long last year. I just love having the house open all winter.

    I grew up in the Chicago area, and don't miss winter one bit. Miss fall though loved the cool brisk days.

    Oh yeah, we lived @ Great Lakes, IL twice, during the middle of hard winters.  We had to run the heat lots more than usual last year.  Don't want to have to do that again.

    Today we are having ice pellets:  Happy Howl-O-Ween, lol!   (We have had snow on Halloween).

    Cold & windy for the trick-or-treaters, drat.  To be 40's all week, kinda normal for us.    ~juli

    I watched a Food Network challenge on pumpkin carving last night, and happened to have this pumpkin in my garage so I thought I  would give it a try.  If I had known I could do it, I probably would have won more than $15 on my pumpkin carving at work.

    chabber, I've heard that our winter could be as bad as the one we had in 2008. Living inland, except for the sound, I think will probably get hit a little harder than right on the ocean.  Although I remember that there are times where there's no escaping it.Foot in mouth Here's hoping they are wrong.     One of the worst winters on record in this area was shortly after we bought this house in 90--don't remember which year.  It snowed and stayed on the ground for days  several times.  The canals froze over so people were walking on them.  Hope this one is not that bad.
