Armpit pain

Anyone else had armpit pain during chemo?  It happened some with AC but it went away within a couple days but it's hanging around with Tax.  I even had some bruising in both armpits but my onc says my platlets are good and she doesn't know why it's happening...not very reassuring :)  It's not the biopsy, that was done months ago and all I've had done is chemo, no surgery yet.  I do have +LN on the left side but why would it be happening on the right side?  Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this.

Yeah, it can be achiness but it has been a sharp pain that comes and goes also.  I think my LN's are swollen and putting pressure on my nerves b/c I have weird things going on with my arm.  My onc said, well there are muscles in there and you're going to have muscle aches with chemo but she still has no clue why I'm bruising.  Thanks, glad to know someone else has had the same problem.

Yep, I get that achy armpit pain...and sometimes sharp (but not very bad) pains. Mostly on my cancer side (left).  But since I've had everything (chemo, bilat mx, rads, recon), I figured it was just something to do with one of those and haven't even mentioned it to my drs. It's certainly not as bad as my before-it-rains arthritis, lol. So I just live with it.

Yes, I have armpit pain on the side with the cancer. I worry that it means the cancer is in in the nodes.

I get armpit pain on my "good side." My BS told me it's normal on tamoxifen because there is a lot of breast tissue toward the armpit. Also the "axillary stem" I think she said. She said the area is sensitive to hormonal changes and it means the tamoxifen is working. She called it pain from my "sympathy breast." So I feel better about it now.

Glad to see this post. I have been having an annoying little ache, sometimes sharp pain, in my good armpit for at least two years. I asked my breast surgeon about it, but he said that a lump would have to be big enough to be felt in order to have armpit pain. Not so sure I believe that though, and I hate that doctors discount that I am the one who has lived in this body for the last 50 years. so I should know if something is bothering me or not, regardless of the cause. I have also had good mammograms and MRIs during this time, yet still it is still always on my mind and bugging me with worry regardless of what anyone says. I have been considering asking my GP for an ultrasound, just to put my fears to rest once and for all. Last year when I was getting an ultrasound on a lump in my scar line, that the biopsy later proved to be non cancerous, I asked them to ultrasound my left armpit, but of course they couldn't do it without an order, I always mention it at my mammogram appointment too, without response. I just want to stop thinking about it once and for all even though it is probably nothing it makes me craaaaaazy.

I too have armpit pain. In fact, that is what alerted me to find my tumor in my breast.

I panicked thinking the cancer is in my lymph nodes but they did a test on me....forget what it's called .....they injected dye into me and the dye was suppose to light up any cancer cells. It only lit up my breast tumor. They put the machine on both armpits and nothing lit up. I keep having my onc feel under there and she says she feels nothing. So, maybe it is the chemo or nerve endings. I'm trying not to worry about it but its hard. I just want it all to go away or better yet, wake up and realize this is all a bad dream!

Remember that lymph nodes react to a lot of things. It could be a reaction to the common cold. Chemo is rough on the immune system, so seems like lymph nodes might react due to that. It happened to me while I was on tamox quite a bit. I had armpit pain on my right side. Tumor was on my left. I thought for sure it was cancer on the right too, but it was not. Pain went away on it's own after awhile.
