I am waiting for my oncotype and trying to see where I fit with what I know....Is it true that being er and pr positive lowers the score, her neg lowers the score and low KI-67 also lowers the score. Is there anything additional from a basic path report that can correlate with a lower oncotype?

    Lola,

I have had a hard time figuring out the scores. My stats say my oncotype score should be low, but I am in the gray area. I do know my BS was very surprised at my score. By the way it is 24.

UMM, Maybe I should stop trying to figure it out, huh?

I would, you can make yourself nuts with this stuff...it is a very specific formula they use and it has everything to do with the testing of the actual tumor...your onc will know how, but if you are ER+, and HEneu-, yes, that lowers it.

I think it has lots to do with the specific type of cancer it is, aggressive, vs non, etc., etc.

It's what they use to determine chemo/no chemo.  I might have not had to do chemo, but I could not do rads, so chemo it was and I was - 2 cms, ER+, no nodes, "garden variety" type, so that is a Stage I, but I know they've got a lot of other criteria.

I quit freaking myself over it, it just drove me nuts.

The grade of the cancer also has an effect on it. Grade 1 is less aggressive and usually doesn't respond well to chemo. Grade 3 is more aggressive and does respond well to chemo, the cancer cells grow much faster than normal cells so chemo is usually the ticket for a grade 3. Hormonal treatment for ER+ stage 1 grade 1 is the norm there. Her 2 positive usually gets you chemo and hercepton as well. That's some commonalities that I've noticed.

HER2+ typically is also grade 3. The reason why HER2+ gets chemo is they find that Herceptin works better when given with certain chemos. I don't think they even bother to test us HER2+ gals
