In 13 days I will officially become a gummy gal
. I don't meet with the plastic surgeon again until that day. I can only think of one question/request . . ... want them sitting up higher on the chest wall so they don't sag . . . point outwards instead of down. I guess I don't really care what profile etc as long as they aren't bottom heavy and sag. Are there any other last minute suggestions/requests I haven't thought about?

Mantra, I am so excited for you! Do you have any pics on TimTams picture site? I would love to see pics of your progress and final result, when you get there. I don't know of any last minute suggestions, just let him know what you would like to see and hopefully he can make that possible. Good luck to you, how exciting! My exchange to gummies is Dec 22nd.

Jilly, I do have some photos of my Tissue Expanders. My surgery was done April 16 so they were posted sometime after that date. My name on that forum is Fore. I may also have some older photos from my first mastectomy and the tissue expander that had to be redone.
-
Mantra, I'm excited for you too! I know how we all look forward to this day with both anticipation and dread, and I know that you are going to have a great result. I am confidant in that because you found this board BEFORE your exchange and not after, like me. You can tell your PS all the concerns us other gals have had with the gummies, so she may be able to prevent that from happening. My only suggestion, since you have concern over the potential droop of the implant, is to print out my posting about what my PS is going to be doing in a revision with pulling up/in skin to raise the bottom heaviness more towards the center, and ask her if this is something she can do during your exchange. My surgery is October 11th, so we are only days apart. I will post pictures of mine on TimTams site as soon as the swelling goes down.
Oh, and another piece of advice that I don't believe has been talked about here. Start taking Arnica Montana (orally) about a week before the surgery, and continue taking for a couple weeks after. This will help keep the swelling down and the bruising to a minimum. I don't typically go for homeopathic, but my PS gave me a vial of it and told me he gives it to his patients to take before and after surgery. There are studies to back it up. I had almost no bruising for all of my 4 surgeries. When I forgot to take a few doses, I started to bruise up. A lot of plastic surgeons swear by it for their breast and face patients. He gave me the brand Boiron, which they sell at Whole Foods. That dose was 12c, which Whole Foods doesn't cary. They have 6c and 30c. I went with the 6c when buying more, which is a higher concentration. However, the basis of homeopathy is the more dilute the better, so if you were going with that philosophy, then 30c would be better. I have noticed no difference between the two. I just know it works amazingly, and is also great for sprains. I've had 2 sprained ankles recently and my swelling and bruising was minimal with it. For the sprains, I took it both orally and used the topical cream. My healing time was much better. I did not use to topical cream on my breast scars because I didn't want any chance of anything getting in the incision. I did put it around it though. I now keep a few vials and a tube of it around the house at all times, since I seem to be prone to spraining my ankles!

Okay Sharon, I've now added your info to my list. I've been trying to figure out the best way to have this conversation moments before going into surgery. I think I've come up with the best way to handle it. I don't want it to come across confrontational. I'm also am told this surgeon is the best which is why I went this route. So I'll just express my concerns based on what others have told me that they liked and disliked about the gummies. Twelve days to go. I'm fighting a wicked cold but it should be gone by then! Hopefully it won't rain on Sunday for the CIBC Run for the Cure. Fighting a cold and being outside in the rain may not be a smart idea so close to my surgery.
Didn't know about the massaging them that someone had mentioned. I'll think I'll give that job to DH
. Your new job should you wish to accept it is . . .massage my new breasts. I think he'll be happy to oblige.
-
Mantra, I have an extra high profile Allergan 410 and mine would never be described as being saggy. As for massage, talk to your PS. To keep from rotating, 410s need to adhere to the chest muscle; some PSs have concerns that massaging could interfer with this.
Here's a brochure on the 410 from Allergan. The only mention they make the massage is concern about problems that massaging could cause, including rupture. So my advice is to not massage unless your PS specifically tells you that it's okay, and shows you how to do it. http://www.allergan.com/assets/pdf/M570-05_410_Gel_DFU.pdf
-
Bessie-I saw your pics on the forum and you have a wonderful result! Your right they do not look saggy at all, but very full and natural and a great match to your other side. Your Dr did a great job!
-
Beesie, thanks for the info about massage. Makes sense. What is the thread called that has your photos?

Hi All!
I haven't had a chance to read in detail all your posts but so far I have learned quite a bit.
I just had my TE surgery 3 weeks ago and I had terrible pain under my arm/ribs/shoulder blades from muscle and nerve reaction. It came on a few days post surgery and got really bad (to the point of having to go to the hospital) about 1 week post surgery. I didn't know what it was at first but was happy to go to PT and the pain was relieved with heat and massage.
Now I'm doing rowing type exercises with a thera-band to work the shoulder muscles and stretch the chest muscles. As well as other arm stretches. I have full mobility again without pain - just a bit of tightness.
I'm supposed to have a Gummy put in on my MAST side and a lift on my natural side. I'm not sure when or what size - will have to wait and see how the expansion goes.
I had radiation and the dr wants to take this slowly. Ok by me - I'm not in any rush - I am a patient person. Just want to ensure a postive outcome.
I want to ask you about travelling with TE. Does it set off the metal detector at the airport?
I'm going to Bermuda in November and I want to be prepared. Do I need a card or something from my PS?
Thanks for sharing all your photos and info on this thread!
Marie

I travelled with my TE and it didn't send off any alarms
but I didn't have to go through a scan - just a metal detector.
-
I'm going next week for a fill so I'll ask my PS about the metal detectors at the airport.
It's been 3 1/2 weeks since my TE surgery and my paper tape is still covering the incisions. Is this supposed to come off on it's own or do I remove it?
Another question for the PS I guess...

Sweetie did you have your exchange yet???? How did it go??? I just got back from Las Vegas and not sure if I missed a post somewhere
-
Lilah-thanks for asking and no I didn't. I posted about it on another thread. What happened was I got there they put the IV in, talked to the Dr and than kept waiting. After a while the nurse came in and informed me the anesthesia suction machines were not working on the entire floor! They didn't know when it would be fixed and the Dr couldn't wait around all day to see when or if it would happen so we rescheduled for this Friday. I was super bummed, but what can you do. So this week been trying to keep busy and hope it goes ok for Friday. Will keep you posted.
How was Las Vegas?!!!
-
Sweetie, I hope this week flies by for you! What a let down!
Lilah, I hope Vegas was awesome.
MarieK - I didn't set off the metal detectors when I was on a plane about a month ago. I had my device card ready in case it went off but it didn't.
-
Oh no! What a letdown! Keep busy and think of how great you're going to look afterwards!
Mantra, if you have a lot of questions, see if you can get a phone consult if he can't fit you in for an in-person. Those are questions that may need some time to discuss and digest, which can't be done pre-op.
-
Yeah Sweetie I saw your post on EC afer I asked you here. That SUCKS! Talk about getting ready for the party and then having to miss it. I hope this Friday comes soon and that you get FAB FOOBS
Vegas was incredible. Ladies if you can see your way to going next year you MUST consider it. There were 60 women there and I didn't even get to really meet everyone let alone talk with everyone but I did get to hang out a little with many different TaTa's and there was a group I got to get to know really well and it all was so life-affirming and wonderful.

MarieK - I've flown twice with my TE and only set off the metal detectors once - but it was my boots, once they came off I went through with no problems. But have you guys have got those awful body scanners - I think they're a different story.
-
Sweetie, how did your exchange go? I hope you are feeling good. I can't wait to see pictures! Hugs to you and wishing you a speedy recovery!
-
Sweetie -- what Jilly said! Let us know how you are!
-
Sending good boobie vibes from here too! Hope you're feeling great and happy with what you see already. Remember, they will be swollen for a while, and they will look and feel different in a few months.

Hi Ladies,
Thanks for thinking of me. I posted on the exchange thread too. Everything went well and I felt good except for a lot of soreness and some discomfort. I rested and slept a lot yesterday. I have to say to you all though I am not an official gummy girl. As some of you know I wasn't sure what type of implant I would use and I agonized a lot about my choice. I think either implant would have looked good on me but it came down to what I thought was most important to me. I have no way of knowing if I made the right choice or not. Any way I choose to go with high profile rounds which ended up being 450cc's. He took in three sizes and used sizers and said that size looked the best. I don't see any step off at all and they seem to feel really soft. The Dr. assured me that if I wasn't happy with anything it could be changed even if wanted to switch to gummies. So ladies even though I'm not a gummy girl I don't want to leave this thread because you all have meant so much to me and your support has helped me through all of this.
-
Yay! Sweetie, I am so happy for you! That's awesome there's no step off. I am so jealous you have your yippee squishies and I have these rocks stuck to my chest. I bet it feels so much better, well, once the soreness goes away, anyway. I'm glad you went with your gut and got the high profile rounds, I don't think there is any wrong decisions, it's such a hard decision, and each person has to decide what's best for them. I'm sure you made the right decision. You are always welcome on this thread!
-
This might be already covered on this thread in previous pages, but do gummy ladies have to wear bras after exchange? I have read lots of people wearing bras 24/7 and I know there is a lot of varying opinions on this. If so, I really need to get one, I don't have any that would fit my current size.
-
Sweetie -- happy you are happy with your choice! I have nothing invested in your being a gummy girl lol... ! Enjoy the new girls and heal up
-
Thanks Jilly and Lilah. I see the Dr tomorrow and hope to post pics this week. Lilah your funny. Thanks for all your support girls!
-
Sweetie, Congratulations on a successful surgery! Gummy or not, I still love your posts. You are very supportive!
-
My revision surgery is tomorrow morning. I am so nervous. Not about the surgery per say, but of what the result will be. I really hope this solves all the issues I have with the gummies, and this is the last surgery I'll need besides nipple reconstruction.
-
I hope so too Sharon!!! Good healing
