IDC and ILC both in the same breast

My Breast Surgen told me that I have both IDC and ILC in the same breast back when I was first diagnosed in May.  But for some reason I didnt realize that it ment I had 2 different typs of cancer going on at the same time.  Is there anyone else who has this?  Does anyone know how this can happen and what does it mean for the chances of it coming back?  I did some research on line to see if there are any studies or papers about this but couldnt find anything.  Im only 36 with 3 young kids and want to be around for them for a while.  I just finished Neo-ajunctive chemo and will have a skin sparing bilat- mast with expanders on Oct 5th then radiation.  My MRI just showed that the grouping in my right breast is gone along with a smaller tumor in my left breast.  The 4cm tumor in my right is much smaller but cancer is still detected.  My nodes look to be clear.  But no cancer was found in them when I had my last MRI and I really ended up having 4 positive out of 6.  2 were possitive and 2 were stucked together that were also possitive.  So I am stage 3 and dont ever want to be stage 4.  Any info would be great!

    Hi there,

    I had a 4cn in my left as well. It had both lobular and ductal features and I was told that can be very common.  How come they only took out 6 nodes?  Are you getting zometa?

    I was 36 at diagnosis and pregnant. I am a year out and feel great. I also have 3 other kids and the baby. It gets better! Once you get through the tx you do get your life back. I would make sure you were getting all treatment you can including zometa.

    I had FEC and then 12 weekly taxols.Every 3rd taxol I got zometa. (so every 3 weeks I got zometa following my taxol) And now I do zometa every 6 months.

    I also had both IDC and ILC (mostly ILC) and that really freaked me out when I was first diagnosed. But none of my doctors seemed to think it was a big deal when I asked them about it. Hang in there. I agree with Pure - just keep thinking about a year from now when the treatment will be over. I'm almost a year out and I feel  fine now, and I think I'm healthier (exercise, diet) than I was before diagnosis.

    actually ILC has lower rates of mets...It tends to be big and sneaky but doesn't spread as often.

    hey, girl,I know it freaked me out to have a large idc and then a smaller lobular way underneath, in the same breast, detected only during mastectomy. My dr's seemed totally unconcerned. They were more concerned about my large matted together nodes.

    Anyway, I am 8 years out, mean as hell, twice as ornery as the sweet young thing I was at diagnosis.

    Drink and eat with no restraint. I don't believe in brocco sprouts, juicing, organic food, I am thriving, despite my habitual use of margueritas and my pervasive state of being bad. And I never have a scare. You will be a thriver too, you just were efficient and got everything at once.

    Thanks gals!  This makes me feel better knowing that none of your DR's were too concerned either.  Pure - no I am not getting zometa.  What is it?  And they did a Sentinel Node biopsy when they put my port in, and actually took out 6 axillary nodes.  She just told me that they will be taking out the nodes under my arm during my bilat mast.
