Hi Ladies
I enjoyed meeting all of you last week. You all are amazing women--such an inspiration! Thanks for getting everyone together.
I think it was Karen who had a friend there who is about to start treatment. I wish her well!

Just wanted to let everyone know that there will not be anything planned for this month. There are quite a few of us who are working the Susan G. Komen Registration from Wednesday through Sunday for the next 3 weeks. I am looking at planning something in October. We are talking about doing something at Cindy's home. She is really looking forward to hosting.

Hello AZ ladies!
So glad I found this thread. I am new to the forum and luckily right now I have joined for research purposes. My childhood was greatly affected by breast cancer and cancers in general. I have a post on the high risk women page asking for any information about genetic counseling and prophylactic treatment in AZ and haven't gotten any info. Are any of you previvors that have any doctors that you would recommend or your story to share? Or possibly ladies in treatment or survivors that had doctor that also work with women who would like to minimize their risk before a diagnoses? Any info would be so appreciated! Unfortunately, wisdom comes from experience so I know this is the best place to start!
Thanks in advance,
-
Jenn thanks for the post. I am going to be at the race for the cure that day. To bad it falls on that day. I hope there are some that will be able to attend.

Welcome Sunflower,
I am not sure I am the best person to ask for help. Since I do not know of any preventive before hand. I can tell you I have an awesome oncologist. Her name is Sharon Ondreyco. She really works on getting as much information that she can when working with you. She is voted Best Dr. In America. She helped save my life. My prognosis was low. But as you see I have pulled through. Plus I believe in God and my faith really got me though. He put Ondreyco in my life. I am not sure what all you are looking for. I am a triple neg and there is not much I seem I can do. Though Cindy (Cydz) does do chinese medicine and she is really working on lessening the reocurrence. Good Luck!
-
Thank you ebann I will look to see if your onc works with prevention. Also, I read about your diagnones and you are an inspiration! 1 out of the 3 family members I have had with BC had stage IV IBC and wasn't as lucky as you but a lot has come along since the 90's! Lucky for all of us. I hope your onc deals with prevention, she seems like a great place to start!
Do you mind asking what church you belong to? I am not far away, in Peoria.
-
Sure your welcome. I go to Pure Heart Christian Fellowship...Crossroads are Union Hills/43rd Ave. Awesome church. Would love to meet you sometime. We are going to get together and do something this month. Hopefully you will be able to join us.

Sunflower- If you are considering a prophylactic MX just wanted to let you know that you would more than likely be an excellent candidate for nipple sparing surgery. I was DX with DCIS on one side but did a prophylactic MX on the other and was able to have this done for both. Not all surgeons are trained and experienced in this procedure so if you're interested make sure to consult with one who specializes in it. My breast surgeon was Dr. Michele Ley at the Arizona Cancer Center in Tucson and my plastic surgeon was Dr. Cheri Ong. I also know they perform the NSM at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale. If you have any questions feel free to PM me anytime.
-
Oh I had prom pictures taken there in HS! ha. Beautiful church. I will check for updates on the meeting, thank you!
I found your onc's website and they have a page about prevention, maybe I can get a consult with someone in their office! I am only 20 but would like to have a plan of action for when I am done having children. 2 of my aunts were diagonosed in their early 30s, one was pregnant and one had just given birth! So a plan and options will help put me at ease.
-
Sunflower13 Check out Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, also. My BS Barbara Pockaj, PS Deborah Bash and oncologist Donald Northfeldt were wonderful. I had a nipple sparing MX (unilateral) and I am happy with my choice and results. I had DCIS but have a strong family hx of cancer of all kinds (immediate and extended).
You are quite young, but wise to start thinking about this now, since you are high risk. Mayo did BRCA1-2 testing and I consulted with their geneticist, also. It was complete and total care there.

Hey ladies,
Anyone use or know of Kimberli S. Cox at the Comprehensive Breast Center of AZ? That is who my gyno referred me too to discuss prophylactic options.
Thanks!
Genevieve
-
Genevieve, I have not heard of Dr. Kimberli S. Cox before. I checked on her and noticed she seems to have an outstanding repore w/ her patients. From what I see they have given iher 5 stars expect for her staff 3.5. That is really all that I can tell you. I wish I knew more. I hope that this works out for you.
Blessings your way!

I will try to make it, but will confirm as we get closer to the date....Karen
-
Cant make it this time either... My husbands birthday is that week so we are going to be at his mothers for his birthday dinner.
Jenn
-
Cydz or ebann - can you give us a rough estimate on how many people are coming, so we can know how much to bring
-
My husband bought Elton John tickets for Saturday the 6th. I'm sorry I can't make it - Cydz's home is on my side of town, and I was looking forward to it. But the concert will be fun - our son, daughter, and son-in-law are going with us. The kids grew up on Elton John. (One daughter said no way! She never wants to hear another Elton John song as long as she lives.)
Have a great time and hope to see many of you at next month's Christmas ornament exchange. -
Hi Aimee, we are looking at about a dozen. Hope that helps. If there happens to be more I will let you know cause tomorrow is the last day for RSVP's.
