Head Covering Options For Hair Loss

I got some hats from headcovers.com - good selection and some comfy knitted hats.

Planet Buff is THE BOMB!  I lived in those things when my hair was falling out.  It was the only thing that kept me from leaving hair all over the house worse than my golden retreiver!

I agree, matter of fact, my planet buff head cover is sitting right here bc I just took it off.  Its the most comfortable to wear around the house, I have two and wear them all the time.  They were great this summer in the heat as well bc the material wicks away sweat.  The franceluxe scarves are beautiful and you get a special one free except there is an opening in the back which exposes your scalp.  I told them and they shipped me a free head band to cover the area.  Very nice people.  Payless has cotton scarves that are really inexpensive and they look casual, hip and nice.  I would wear the long scarves and tie them to the side, braiding them down the front of my outfit and you can decorate them with pretty vintage pins from antique stores.  I put a pin at the tie site and got lots of compliments.  Also I would put a vintage pin on the top of the scarf  in the frontto give it a bias edge. 

I loved the 2 wraps I got from ABonita Scarves (abonitascarf dot com).  The piping around the front panel of the scarf gives the impression of fullness, and it has a D-ring and snap method of closure that prevents the scarf from slipping around.  Most of them are cotton, so they are washable and they breathe--which is nice when it's too hot or I have a hot flash. 

When I was in chemo last year, I found the website tznius dot com.    They sell clothing to women who wish to dress modestly, but they have a great selection of scarves and instructions for how to tie them.    The first time I ventured out of my house in a scarf instead of a wig, a young girl stopped me in the mall and asked me if I could tell her how I tied my scarf.   She said her mother had breast cancer and she was having a really difficult time dealing with the hair loss but that my scarf looked so good she wanted to show her Mom!    (I offered to take it off and show her how it was done, but she didn't think she needed that much instruction!!!)

I also want to let everyone know that I just received a hat package from Heavenly Hats and OMG they were amazing.  I got 3 hats from them and they were high quality and are just what I needed.  Reading that this organization was started by someone so young and is still continuing, I will hold my own "hat parade" in Baltimore to help support them! I just finished my last chemo treatment and I live near Chicago (so a cold climate!).  When I didn't wear a wig, I ended up wearing heavenly fleece hats from Lands End Overstocks most often over the past couple of months.  They are very comfy and the price is right -- I checked in every week or so and would buy the colors available for $4.99 (the prices and available colors fluctuate).

I have no connection with Lands End ... just thought I'd share a very reasonably priced and comfy hat option.eta:  Be sure to look in overstocks!  They also have the current years heavenly fleece hats in the regular section for 3x more.

I loved the hats from headcovers, all were lovely quality affordable and you can move/shape them nicely to suit your mood or frame the face. Very flattering. I now have a full head of long hair (tri neg- ended chemo in Nov 2007, but I still like the hats enough to wear them now, and get compliments on them every time. They wash really well also, so it was great as I never used a hat but I wore their cotton knitt ones inside and out.  Their winter lined caps are beautifully made also, but they can't be rolled down at the back of the neck like the roll style knitts so they were slightly less covering. Saying that, I use the knitt lined winter caps now all the time.

Has anyone tried the "headband wig"?  I saw it on headcovers.com and was curious about it.  I always were my hair in a headband or ponytail so thought this may be a good option for me.

If anyone has one, I'd appreciate your thoughts!
