Make-up hints

MAC is actually a Canadian brand! Woo hoo! It IS wonderful make-up, not cheap, but worth every penny. As well, if you return the empty/used compacts they give you credit towards another one. Go to the booth and have them redo you. I read somewhere that if you're still wearing your make-up the same way you wore it 20 years ago, it's out of date.
I don't get it. Lipstick goes on my lips, mascara on my eyes.....?

-
I second the MAC redo---just don't let the "look" of some of the associates throw you----Purple hair and lime green shadow with sea blue liner can be off putting to some of us. (ME) but I have seen what they do to customers and it's really good. I know a lot of gals that love MAC. Personally, I like their long lasting lip gloss, it really Does last most of the day. Just wish they'd get light colors back.
Their eye shadow collection is amazing and I use it for eyeliner and eyebrows, too.
-
Mac store is too far away from where I live

-
Sephora carries MAC products in their stores and on-line.
Free shipping if you splurge a little.

MAC stores are 1.5 and 2 hours away for me, too,, so I just plan on a visit when I go shopping --every 4-5 months or so.

Hello, my chicas! It's been awhile, though I do drop by every one in awhile to see what y'all are up to. I'm still struggling with trying to conceal sunspots and the huge dark undereye circles that chemo gifted me with, not to mention the virtually absent lashes and brows. Sigh....
I've also completely given up tanning (
), if you can believe it. Yep, it did take a bout with squamous cell CA on my chest (small and totally removed) to get me out of the tanning bed, but I'm absolutely a convert now.I do have a question, my girls, about the use of Rogaine or similar products. Has anyone tried it for thinning hair or receding areas that never filled in well after chemo? How about along the brow line? I've read recommendations for using it in various magazines, but don't want to spend the money or, more importantly, my optimistic spirit on something that's found to fail. Does anyone have any experience with this stuff?

Marin,
My hair has thinned dramatically on femara. I have been using Rogaine for about a year and a half and while, on the one hand, it doesn't seem to help grow new hair, it does seem to slow down the thinning. I stopped for two weeks and the rate of hair loss increased (to judge by the number of hairs falling out) so I started using it again. If anyone has any other suggestions for thinning hair, I would appreciate them. I take the "hair, skin and nails" vitamins for the biotin but it doesn't seem to help.
Good luck.

Marin, I'm reading good things about L'oreal's lash treatment---some are seeing good results in as little as 3 weeks and it's under $20.
-
Which one is that Dotti??? I am trying Stiletto mascara right now and though it doesn't clump, my lashes certainly look less...
-
I am looking for a makeup that let still look good after hot flashes. I'm on Tamoxifen and have meltdown makeup issues. Any foundation advice? I also have the dark circles (hereditary) and need cover up, too.
-
May want to consider teinted moisture instead of liquid makeup. concelers are tough on we who have dry skin, so ck. out a few different ones along with their moisture. I found I looked better with out the conceler.

Revitalash is on the pricey side but worked really well to thicken/darken up my post chemo lashes (it can also be used on your eyebrows).
-
How about spring summer new makeup colors. What changes do you make?
-
I begin using self tan on my face and neck so I don't have to use make up. I use the minerals in a self dispesing brush thingie that originally came with bronzer. I just replaced the bronzer with my "personal" mix of mineral tones. So less messy and way portable.
-
I've been using the Lavera self tanners for about two years on my face, neck and at times my legs(during the summer) and have gotten lots of complements on my tan. Most importanly Lavera doesn't smell and for my skin tone(fair/medium) looks natural enough. I've tried others and they smell, streak, look orange.
-
it seeems very simple, but it works really well - in Make-up school, they taught us to use a #6 lead pencil (also called an ebony pencil) to fill in gaps in the lash line. the actual effect looks like a shadow, and if the line seems too sharp (you do need a good point on the pencil), I run a clean marscara wand over it to soften the effect. I use the package mascaram wands that I get form Sally beauty supply. I can alos "set the pensil by spraying a bit of hairspray on the wand, and running it lightly over the pencil line.
Very quick, and vrey inexpensive(when all your money is going to the insurance company!).

My eyebrows haven't grown back, I have different shapes daily from my efforts and they are never equal.
Has anyone thought of having cosmetic tattoo, has anyone tried it? I'm so fed up with trying to get them even.

seacat, Makeupchicknc is a cosmetic tattoo artist who does the facial tattoos (eyebrow, eyeliner, lip liner) as well as the areola tattoos.

I've had mine done twice. The facial dyes do fade over several years. I have never been happier, but I have so little brow hair normally, and that's the reason I had them done. I've worn eyebrow pencil since I was 12. I didn't have chemo.
How long have you been out of chemo? Maybe the others can tell you how long it took theirs to grow back???? You could also have your thyroid ck'd out. That was part of my problem.
It's expensive, I gave it to myself for Christmas one year (long, long ago) before bc. I had it redone a few years ago. She used a single needle, where I think 3 is normal. I have seen pics of new brows, where lines are used and they look bad to start, but I'm told they begin to "bleed" together and look more natural.
I'd sure want to see before and afters, even more than my plastic's pics of recons! Referral would be good, too. My lady is a tatoo artist and agreed to go the lightest possible. I've seen some bad jobs, done by people who were not experienced or just didn't know or care, I guess. She had me do my brows before I saw her and make sure that was what I wanted so she could copy MINE, not something She imagined.
Since I color my hair auburn, I use a bit of orangy eyeshadow on the light brown tatoo to make them look like they match my hair color. I was told they didn't have reddish facial dyes. They may have them now.
I had my lower eyelids lined(almost) in my ps office after a procedure he did and I was still woozy.(prearranged, woozy was the good part. LOL) I made her promise to use the lightest and smallest amounts possible and they looked pretty good for about 3 years. Guess I had them done too light and skimpy (just wanted to look like I had more eyelashes than I do) because they don't show now at all. I now have found someone to tint my lashes, so I do that.
Hopefully, makeupchicknc will come along and give you more updated info.
Edited: to add: what about the Latassee??? It makes eyebrows grow, too, did you know that?
-
Not sure this is a help but........ my eyebrows didn't completely fall out during chemo but they really thinned out. Now, one year out from chemo, I have only had them waxed one time. This is strange since I use to do it (before breast cancer and chemo) every 6 weeks. I did use Latisse on my eyelashes and it worked well. Maybe you could try that and put the extra on the eyebrows. It is expensive ($120 a bottle) but I think there are other one similar such as Revitalash.........

I should have put her web site to show the before and after photos of her work. http://www.ashevillepmc.com/

Hi girls!!! I had to take a minute from my crazy life to come and say hello, and of course, to tell you about a product that is AMAZING!!!!!
A while back we were talking about stuff from the DHC catalogue- and that velvet face stuff...it smooths out your face and lets your makeup glide on...
well Loreal has just come out with something even better... it's called Studio Secrets magic perfecting base.
It's the tiniest little jar of pink base, and I don't even know the cost b/c my mom was so impressed with it, that she gave it to me when she bought another jar. If you're looking for something to put on before makeup to smooth out lines, crevices or cracks, this is it!!!!!
I highly recommend it.
Hope everyone is well!!!! I'm off on the next adventure!

Maura, I am hoping against hope that you had a typeo in the "this May I hope to be HEADLESS by then, no caps or anything". LOL!
-
bringing back my favs. Need advice from all. What about fall winter shades. Found some really great OPI colors.
-
I did my toes in copper--love it. I turn to deep rose or dark brown/coral in the fall for my hands. I've not been into the whites or blacks for nails.
-
I have the most important HINT of all!! Make sure you get your eyes checked before you put on any eyeliner. I went for weeks with using navy blue eye brow liner and eye liner on my eyes thinking I was wearing black!! Hubby kept asking me why I had changed my "look" but was too dumb to tell me I was looking like an old circus freak with this bright navy liner all over my brows and eyes!!
When my daughter brought it to my attention one day, was I MAD at him!!! Now I have new eye glasses and make darn sure I am using the correct color. In fact I have changed to brown for the brows for "just in case". Thanks for all the make up info. I will put on my good eye glasses and make sure I see what I am reading.

-
OK, navy blue eyebrows! Cool!!! LOL
