Are you of our Stage 3 ladies getting Social Security?  I was denied because they state that I was well enough to work:  although I have not been able to work in a year and a half due to --complications, symptoms, etc.  Has anyone else been approved at Stage 3?  Feedback and thanks, heather

I was first dx'ed as Stage IV, and I signed up and was approved for SSD. After 6 months or so, I was re-staged to 3.  I still fit the criteria, as I had a positive IM node that couldn't be removed.

It's not as much staging that they look at, but whether you fit the criteria listed of the SSD website, and that you will be unable to work for at least 1 year.

    Here's the criteria-

    13.10 Breast (except sarcoma-13.04) (See 13.00K4.)

    A. Locally advanced carcinoma (inflammatory carcinoma, tumor of any size with direct extension to the chest wall or skin, tumor of any size with metastases to the ipsilateral internal mammary nodes.

    B. Carcinoma with metastases to the supraclavicular or infraclavicular nodes, to 10 or more axillary nodes, or with distant metastases.

    OR

    C. Recurrent carcinoma, except local recurrence that remits with antineoplastic therapy

Even if you don't fit those, if you have been unable to work due to medical reasons for over a year and you can get a doctor to write a letter attesting to that, then be sure to appeal your denial!
