Baby it's cold outside

Happy camping Joni!
Ah, what could be more American than hotdogs and baseball! Neither are popular in NZ - pies or fish and chips are our favourites although hamburgers are popular thanks to Mackers (McDonalds). Rugby, racing and beer rule here!!!!
Heavy showers with fine patches for us so far this week and now for the weekend as well. Hail this afternoon a couple of times with the rain. Has got colder again - 45 overnight up to 55 in the day. I am meant to be playing in a tennis tournament on Monday on hardcourt - we will be lucky to get it in - forecast not good for Monday either - sigh - roll on summer!
-
Hi Suz, ususally we just have a glass of merlot every evening--hubby had a heart attack at 49 years old and this has been very beneficial to him---and to me:) I have Corona Lights at the games. Rae, we have a great pitcher on our team from Austrailia, so baseball must be popular there, too.
Hot today with a small chance of showers.
-
It has been overcast and cool all day with showers on and off and we are in a severe weather alert now.
Sheila
-
Beautiful day here. 82 degrees and sunny for the most part.
Love Corona beer - and merlot. I'm such a lush. Working 4 10 hour days now so I have tomorrow off! Yeah - I'm a heading to the pool unless we get that severe weather alert that Sheila is having. It's a small chance tomorrow.
-
I'm a Cab girl, but Merlot is tolerable. I have tasted beer once in my life. Five years ago on our honeymoon, I asked DH if I could try it. Let's just say I am not a fan.
-
I not a fan of beer either but my DH makes sure he drinks my share. I love red wine but can't drink any alcohol now - became alllergic to it after my twin pregnancy
.
Rain and more rain here and very cold - it is starting to get a bit 'old' now. My friend lost the first of her new season goat kids last night - the doe got it to shelter but it must have got too wet and is was very cold last night
Sorry ladies, it's all a bit
here today.
-
Reainnz, I heard that many people are allergic to the sulfites used to preserve the wine. Someone (A friend who owns a winery) said that boutique wineries use less sulfites because they don't plan to ship their wines across the country or have long transit times.
I used to raise goats, and the babies are so sweet. It always brought me down when I lost one. Sorry you are having a
day. (((hugs)))
-
Hugs to you raeinnz about losing your baby goat.
I should say that I don't drink alchol except on occasion when I am at my sister's house and we are having a game night (usually Christmas eve or new year's eve) and it takes me a couple of hours to drink a wine cooler while we are playing different card games and watching sappy movies.
We had some fog this morning and expecting temps back in the 90's today.

We are looking for a hot weekend, and up to 104° in a few days.
I'm melting.....
I get home from work, and put on my swim suit to garden in. That way I can hose my self off if I get too hot.
-
88 degrees at 8:00 pm. We came home and got in the pool to cool off with the dogs. Rae, sorry about the baby lost. How cold does your winters get? Sounts like a Florida winter. We only get down maybe in the 20's once or twice, but mostly in the 50's for most of the two months we have of winter. The dampness makes it feel so much colder. Have a wonderful weekend everyone.
-
Meece - Thanks for the hugs - I wasn't feeling too well yesterday either which made things worse - am better today. Interesting about the sulphites in the red wine but it is definitely the alcohol content as I can't have top shelf drinks either. I used to drink grape juice before I struck a bottle that must have started to ferment and when I had glass of it .... whammo! Lol, I love your idea of gardening in your togs (that's what we call a swim suit over here and we call flip flops 'jandals') and hosing yourself off when you get too hot - it rarely gets hot enough to do that here and if it does we are told we should be inside away from the UV rays - sigh.
Mary - I live on the East coast of the North Island by the sea and our winter temp range is usually about 40-60 and we have winter for at least 6 months, May - Oct being the worst although we can have cold snaps right through to Nov and Dec. We get frosts but not a lot and they are never more than about 25. Our climate is one of the best in the country. It is a lot colder inland all over the country and the South Island is very cold. I agree the rain makes it feel so much colder and the lack of sun has the same effect I reckon.
We are in the grips of a Swine flu epidemic again - hospitals full to overflowing and doctors rooms crowded, which makes me loath to go to the doctor as I might catch something from all those sick people waiting to see doctors - and everyone is hoping they won't catch it.
Rain again today but it cleared about noon and I took the dog out for a walk - he was beside himself because it has rained or showered for nearly a week straight now and we just haven't been able to get out. We got rained on on the way home but not too bad.
-
smithlme - fingers crossed your onc appointment goes well tomorrow - 11.30pm Sunday for you my World Clock tells me - Monday 7.30pm here.
YESTERDAY AND TODAY HAVE BEEN FINE WEATHER - yahoo!!!! Played a tennis tournament today in beautiful warm sunshine and about 10 minutes after the last players go off the court there was a major hail and rain storm. Showers forecast for tomorrow and rain Wed, Thurs and Fri - sigh. Night day temp range still 40 - 60.
Meece - has it got to 104 yet? That's 40oC - we NEVER get that hot here.
-
I woke up this morning with cool temp, mid 60's. rained most of Saturday but stopped in time for the Crawdad baseball game. Sunday was nice, not too hot. Temps are now closer to normal.
Sheila
-
We have a "Cold Front" coming through today! A high of only 91. The real good news is the humidity is going to be lower. I'll take that.
-
We are going to have another heat wave Tuesday throught Thursday. Temps to be over 105 on Wednesday. Heading South for Scans hat day, so hopefully it will be a nicer temp down there.
-
They changed the forguess for us. Today is supposed to be 106° and tomorrow will be 108° or higher, but next week we will be in the 80s.
-
Yikes Meece - that is HOT! Sun has disappeared behind a heavy cloud cover again here and rain is forecast by midday with a high of 57 - doubt it will get to that. A 'wrap up warm' day for me today.
-
Bad news is that the weather is also dry. The main artery between Central California's San Joaquin Valley and Southern California is "on fire" right now. That means I will have to drive a long detour tomorrow to get to my med. appt.
We have wild fire season for the next two months. YUK!!!
-
Oh that's a bit scary Meece - wild fires are deadly - Australia has them from time to time and people lose their lives. Hope you don't live in an area that is prone to them? Take care driving tomorrow.
-
I'm home! Wonderful Fri & Sat @ the beach-sweatshirt & shorts weather
107 or so here today according to a bank thermometer near home
We have a big old fire burning homes near a golf course in Ashland tonight-12 lost so far!
-
joni - oh no. I don't listen to the news when wild fires are raging in Aussie - so many lives lost in such a horrible way.
107
indeed - we are struggling to get to 55 today - nasty cold wind making it feel even colder!
-
So glad you are home safely, Eph. Really missed you.
I have to map out our alternatice route so I know how early we would need to leave. We have had a mild summer until now. Supposed to be back in the 80s this weekend. It's really so un predictable.
-
rae-I should clarify-12 homes lost so far; as far as I know, no lives.
Good luck tomorrow Meece!
-
joni - phew, glad to hear that - in Aussie they usually tally the lives lost not the homes. Glad you enjoyed your weekend away - lazing on the beach has got to be good for the soul.
Storm has hit - temperature has plummeted, the wind come up and the rain is starting - no tennis for me tonight. Rain forecast through to Friday and then showers on the weekend.
-
We are having rain, rain, rain. It has been a loooonnnnggg time since we've had so many days of rain. Again, I'm not complaining. Last evening as my DH and I sat on the lanai letting the dogs swim, it was 76 degrees. We usually don't see that until much later in the late fall. This week, we aren't even getting in the 90's. That is unheard of here. Like Meece said, unpredictable. All us Floridians are just glad this rain is NOT coming from hurricanes. Joni, glad you had a great time. We deserve everyone we can get.
-
Good morning ladies,
What a busy weekend and early week I've had. I'm thinking of you today and wishing you good appointments today Meece! 108?? 107?? My goodness that is hot. Mary, send some rain up this way - we need rain quite badly - the grass is turning very brown and my garden is all weeds. Joni and Meece - stay safe from the fires!
We've been in the upper 70s and low 80s for quite a while. A cold front comes through today and we're going to get down to the mid 40s tonight and low 70s tomorrow. We haven't been that cold since early June. Fall is coming. Brrrrr. I hate cold. I think I should move in with Rae when the snow starts flying here. We aren't done with summer yet though - supposed to bounce back to the upper 80s by Saturday.
Have a great day ladies.
-
It is 5:15 am and 79 degrees. The fire is under control so we can wait until 7:00 to leave. The detour would add 45 miles to the trip, but all Northern CA traffic going to LA would be routed that same way. Two lanes instead of four. Whew! I am glad we'll get through. Plus I can play on the internet on the way going this direction!
It only got up to 102 yeserday, so I hope it will be lower today as well.
Have a comfortable day, everyone!
-
I got home yesterday to....80+ degree weather!!!!! It was over 100 as I drove home so the 80's were nice. This morning is sunny so I get to break out the summer clothes again!!!
-
Baby it's cold outside!!!! 46 degrees and I'm shivering away. We are supposed to have a high of 74 and then it's back to summer time (thank goodness). Hope your day went well yesterday Meece. Glad you finally have some decent weather Smith!
-
The past few mornings have been in the 60's and warming up to 80's. weatherman said last night this week is the first week below 90 since the middle of June! And the humidity is low making it a dream. Now just watching the Atlantic and seeing what Danielle is going to do.
