Baby it's cold outside

I don't know about coldaphobia, if I am cold I can always put another layer on but if I am hot, there is only so many clothes you can take off before you could be arrested for indecent exposure.  I like the temps to be in the mid 70-80's and low humidity. It is my opinion that the humidity makes the heat much worse than a dry heat. By the way, I am sitting in my office today with an extra long sleeved shirt on and the heater blowing on my feet. but on the other hand if my hands are too cold, I can't key properly.

Morning ladies 

35 overnight - 57 top today.  Clear blue sky - fantastic winter day. Took the dog for a walk earlier than usual this morning and needed the gloves I decided to take though!

Sheila - Im with you - mid 70s to mid 80s all year round would suit me.  We get humidity here in the summer but hardly ever 100% and I agree the humidity makes the heat worse - you just can't get away from it.

Suzette - NZ didn't have native animals so there were just lots and lots of birds - many of which were flightless and ground dwelling because there were no natural predators.  However since Europeans arrived and brought their animals we now have wild animals in our forests and bush - deer, pigs, opossums, stoats, ferrets, rabbits, rats, mice - and they have done a great deal of damage to the native bird population, either by preying on them or destroying their habitat, and many species have been lost or are close to extinction.  However our government's conservation department is making great efforts to save and re-establish threatened species on 'safe' islands or mainland areas and protect breeding grounds of other species. There is also ongoing culling of deer, rabbits and opossums so our bush in many areas is regenerating and the birds are coming back! - yay.  We don't have wild animals around our towns or farming areas and you have to go a long way into the bush to see a deer or pig.  I live in a semi rural area and we see possums and rabbits and the occasional stoat but that's it - quite different from you really.  We have lots of sheep and cattle roaming large areas green pasture though which is rather lovely to see.

Yesterday afternoon it clouded up and we got some sprinkles but the big rain formed south of my house. Temps got in the mid 90's and extremley humid. I had to water my crepe myrtle yesterday since we hadn't gotten any measurable rain in a couple of days.

Got up this morning to temp around 75, not sure where the humidity was but it was humid when my son and I did our morning walk (1 mile) about 7:00 am, I was drenched in sweat when I got back home. Today is supposed to be the hottest day of the week close to 100 possible record setting day.

While summer is fairly pleasant where I live, my cousin in the States is coping with more 100+ temps and high humidity. How well I remember. I like 50s to about 75. And yes, no wind please.

It is only supposed to get up to about 88 today, but lots and lots of rain.  We are finally after 8 years beginning to see lakes back up to the right level after such a long drought.  We are taking our dogs out for a walk around 8:00 every evening down the street to an open area they can run.  It is nice that time of evening, but we have to be careful with the mosquitioes--some virus they are carrying this year we would rather avoid.  Shelia and Suz, I need to start walking again, but have not because of the heat.  Maybe we can ride our bikes at least once around the neighborhood in the late evening.  I need to get back to exercising more. 

I am walking in the morning early so I can get a shower before I have to be at work at 8:00 am. Also it is getting my 25 yr old son out of bed early. He starts college again next week and has an 8:00 am class he doesn't want to miss, we figure that if I get him out of bed and walk a mile he will stay awake (he is a night owl). Last semester he had a 9:00 am class that, even though I talked to him before I left for work, he would fall back asleep and was nearly dropped from it for missing too many classes.

At lunch I checked the temp at the house and it was 90 and the humidity is around 60%, not quite as hot as yesterday but may still get hotter.

Yep, San Francisco is a lot like our weather...coastal fog and ocean breezes. October and November are nice along the coast. San Francisco can surprise us once in a while and be warm. Remember...get an apple pie candy apple at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Company by Fisherman's Wharf. A caramel apple rolled in cinnamon.....yummy....

val - wish I could see the meteor shower.  Love your memory of camping and sitting up watching the sky.  That's what life is all about I reckon - making memories not only for me but for my girls.

I spent the day listening to barbershop quartets and choruses competing at the national high school competition. I have had enough barbershop for quite a while now thanks!  It was frosty when we left home but after 1.5 hours travel inland it was instant shiver when we got out of the bus at the other end - glad I live by the sea - it keeps things a little warmer in the winter.

57 today and rain forecast for tomorrow and Saturday - great, no bike riding again this weekend!! but it will be warmer I hope.

Meece that was almost as bad when my son came home on leave from Hawaii in December, we were having temps in the upper 50's at the time and the first place he wanted to go was Walmart to buy himself a winter coat.

Suzette, he doesn't party but stays up playing world of warcraft, a habit he started when in the Navy.

Val, when I was younger, we spent time camping at 'Poor Farmer's campground' and my fondest memories are staying up late and watching the metor shower, didn't know the name of the shower but it was usually right before school started. And one Labor Day weekend staying up watching the Labor Day telethon for MD on my uncle's TV (we didn't bring it along) and seeing a lunar eclipse.

Rae, I also spent plenty of time attending band competitions, both as a participant (8 yrs) and as a chaperone/guest (with my younger brother and my son - I lost track of how many years there).

Last night we had a heavy shower but it didn't change the temp or humidity much. This morning temp around 75 and still high humidity. Expected highs in the 90's and a 40% chance of more showers this afternoon.

Thought I'd pop in here since I was part of the party back in February when we had 70-whatever inches of snow in Virginia. We've been here in Brittany since early May and this has been the best summer in 20-some years! Never below 65; never above 85, sunshine and gentle ocean breezes. When it rains it's usually nighttime. The sun sets around 10:30. We're heading back to Virginia mid-September. I sure hope those 90-100 degree temps I've been hearing about will be history by then.

Anna, your summer sounds absolutely perfect!  I've only been to Brittany once and it was in June, just beautiful - I loved it.

****NEWS FLASH**** There's sunshine in Fort Bragg!!! I've been out in the garden picking strawberries and inhaling the sunshine! While I was sitting on the patio, Mother Nature sent me some visitors. Our newest fawn decided that one of the cats looked just about the right size to play with. He slowly crept up to within 6 feet of our oldest cat. Bo could care less but the fawn had a look of pure confusion on his face. It was one of those moments I wish I had my camera, but if I got up I would have scared the fawn. While the stare down was going on there were several different birds in the various feeders and a butterfly decided to flutter by me. If I had black hair I swear it would have been a Snow White moment!

Ahhhhhh...sunshine feels great!
