How old were you?

I could not have used that rule either....NO ONE in my family has BC! Although my sister (later this month..they did not want to do it until she told them of my diagnosis...she is 3 years older then I at 38) and my mom (she already got a clear one) are taking warning and I will suggest my girls start early at 25!

bumping up for newbies

I was diagnosed Oct. 13, 2004 just 24 days prior to my 64th birthday. Just wanted to let Shirlann know there is at least one other median age female out there!!!
Hugs and blessings to all of you! Sann -
I am 58 and still am, diagnosed with Invasive Lobular....just finished 3rd chemo....half-way done!!!
-
I was diagnosed on New Year's Eve 2003 and was 49. I've since had a mast/immediate tram/lumpectomy/chemo/LAVH and my 50th birthday!
-
Dx at 30 while pregnant, stage II, 4.5 tumor grade 3.
-
Diagnosed on August 22, 2005, at age 40. Mammo that my gyn gave me for my birthday 6 months earlier showed nothing. Tumor ended up being 1.3 cm. IDC, grade 2.
-
I was 49 years old and my "50th" birthday was 3 weeks from then. I was diagnosed on 8/31/04 with invasive ductal carcinoma, stage I, grade III, no node involvement. I have since celebrated my "1st" birthday.

WEIRD birthday thing!
I found a 7 cm lump 3 weeks before I turned 47.
I had a mammogram a year prior and a physical exam 6 months prior.
I think my sister found her 2 cm. lump 4 weeks before her 52nd birthday.
She had a mammogram 6 months before and a doctor physical just one month prior and nothing was found.
My oncologist said it didn't show itself until it got big enough to push through the fatty tissue in the breast, that it was sitting too close to the chest wall.
But what is with the birthday thing? That IS WEIRD!

I was 46 at time of dx. Dx 6/05 via mamogram (no lump detected) lumpectomy 1.5cm and .4cm started chemo 4 cycles A/C then onto taxol/herceptin. Continue with herceptin for 1 year, will also have rads. Mother also had bc dx when she had discovered a lump at age 52. She had mast w/o chemo but on tamox and several other AIs. She developed mets to bone.
I'm er-pr- her2+++ -
I'm 28...just got diagnosed on August 19th....2 months after getting married and finishing my post-doc in clinical psych...crazy timing. Found the lump myself, biopsy, the works...had a bilateral mastectomy with DIEP reconstruction on 9/15/05. 2.2cm, ER+/Pr-, Her2-. 7 nodes out of 24 positive So, I'm getting ready to start chemo and then radiation...meeting with my doctor on Tuesday and off we go.

I am 25 and found out I had IDC when I was 17 weeks pregnant. Just finished 4 rounds of a/c and will start taxol/herceptin for 12 weeks after the baby is born. We're hoping to get to 34 or 36 weeks before delivery.

I was 46. My gyn is hyper-vigilant and I've been having mammos and ultrasounds for years but always "normal". My last one - April 2004 - was the same.
I saw a dimple in my left breast and found the new lumps early this year. April mammo was pretty clearly not normal and ultrasound and biopsy the same day also left no doubt. That was a Friday (tax day!) and they told me to make an appointment to see a surgeon on Monday.
And so the fun begins ... -
Diagnosed in April, same month of my birthday, turned 45.

Hi!
My doc sent me for a baseline mammo @ 35. My mom was diagnosed right before I turned 35. Had another mammo (by nurses' mistake; went in for my annual gyn exam and nurse hadn't realized that I was too young) @ 36, diagnosed @ 36. My daughters' will be getting their first one @ 26.
Baseline is due @ 35, next one was due @ 40 and annually thereafter. -
51, just short of my 52nd birthday - nice present, huh?
-
Last year at age 43. Both my parents and grandparents are still alive, and there is absolutely no cancer in my entire family, no cancer of any kind.

64 when I found the lump; 65 when I began treatment, awaiting Medicare and Seniority Plus to kick in.)

hi, bumping up for newbies
-
I just celebrated the BIG 28.... DX at 26... for all you newbies wondering why breast cancer happened to you, I think Janis hit the nail on the head when she said...
we're women, and shit happens.
hang on for a bumpy ride... we're waiting for you at the end. -
I was 17 when I found a lump during a shower but come on I was just 17 and just 2 years before my breast started growing (at 15) so I thought it was normal , then when I wa 18 I feelt the lump a little bigger and told my mom and we went to the gyn and made me a biopsy but whit a syringe and extracted liquid but everything was normal and told me that was a cyst that was not necessary to remove, then when I was 20 my "cyst" started hurting me and I had a biopsy and just 3 weeks b4 my 21 b-day I knew that it was cancer (adenocarcinoma stage II) No one can understad how a very aggressive cancer as mine did not spread in all those years with out treatment.
Now I'm 21.2 years with a mastectomy and 5 rounds of chemo left ...and afraid that my life never is going to be the same. -
I was diagnosed this summer, at age 57. Not really a surprise, in some ways. My mother is 85, a thirty year survivor. Two of her sisters had breast cancer, but neither died from it. I belong to another message board, and I'm the oldest one there! Nice to have more "mature" people around!
-
Diagnosed at age 53--3 years post menopausal. NO other cancer in my family--and in addition to my mom, 2 sisters, and 5 aunts, I have 19 female first cousins.
-
We're all too fricken young for this dammit!!!
I was 38 when dx'd with Stage II IDC....August 2004 brought my dx of lung mets and my induction into Stage IV.
I had the BRACA genetic testing done and do not carry the gene for bc or ovarian cancer. I was happy to relay that info to my sister and two nieces. I just wish someone had some info to relay to me as to how this happens.
I'm so disgusted with ads/drs, etc. that tell women to wait until 40 for baseline mammos...That is such bull....We have a member here who had a mast at 17 and another who had a double mast at 20.
We have to continue to appeal to our legislators. -
I was diagnosed in Jan. 2004 at age 40 with Stage II IDC. I have 5 months chemo and 7 weeks of radiation. I did test positive for the BRAC 1 Gene. I February 2005 I had a complete histerectomy and then in May, 2005 I had a double mastectomy with reconstructive surgery immediately following. My sister who got diagnosed 4 months before me at age 31 and also has the BRACA 1 gene. I was wondering if anyone out there has had breast cancer and has this gene and want to know the survival rate?
-
I was and am 52. My sister had BC and uncle(!) also. Had thickening in my breast which I didn't give much thought to, but good thing the doctors didn't let me get away. Final DX after mastectomy was 6-cm invasive 90% lobular/10% ductal, node negative, ER+/PR+, HER2 negative, 1.4 cm margins. Underwent an easy bilateral mast (one prophylactic), 4 A/C with minimal trouble, now on tamoxifen, and now on Day 4 of rads because it's "reasonable" per the literature and radiation oncologist for a 6 cm tumor. Ta-da.

44 years young!
and many years ahead! -
Hi ladys I am 34 and found I had breast cancer in September of this year just started chemo, but wanted to share with you that my step mother was 44 when diagnosed in 1986 with stage 4 breast cancer 19 years ago and she is doing awsome.
Julie -
wow julie! Thanks for sharing that! You step mother is an inspiration to us all. I love survivor stories
-
34 when diagnosed on 12/23/04. Had double mast on 2/14/05 and reconstruction on 6/1. Anxiously awaiting scan results from a bone and CT scan... hoping I don't have mets.
