    Hey all--

I have a friend being treated for stage 3 BC in the UK-- she is doing 4 doses of taxol 3 weeks apart (I did it weekly for 12 weeks) and she is sick as a dog, stuck in bed-- nothing seems to help. Does anyone have any ideas? Thank you!

What is she sick with?  Nausea?  Pain? I had trouble with Taxol and my onc told me that it would have been much worse had I done the DD therapy versus the weekly therapy.  I struggled with a lot of pain in my back and legs - It hurt just to be touched, hugged and at times uncomfortable to with clothes touching me.  I did use pain medication.  I didn't have nausea with Taxol, thank goodness, but did struggle with the high doses of steroids.  The steroids were just something I had to deal with.

I would suggest you're friend get in touch with her onc to discuss the SE's or if possible, you could call and let them know what is going on with your friend, even if they can't talk to you about her without consent.

Jenn brought up a good point and it does remind me that I was due to get DD Taxol, but because of the trial I was in I had to get weekly Taxol.  However, the onc agreed to switch me back to DD if I choose to early enough and wanted to back out of the trial.

Weekly Taxol is supposed to be gentler on the body and just as effective.

I felt worse with the TAXOL  than with the AC.  I was on DD.  Is your friend taking Claritan D and Aleeve for pain?  That seemed to help me.  I was extremely weak and tired and breathless from it and when I finished with it I still felt that way for a good month or 2 afterwards.  I did notice that the chemo center  made sure to infuse me over a hour period and also included Benedryl, and Ativan.  But the leg pain and numbness was what I really noticed afterward.  I hope your friend feels better soon.  If she's feeling this lousy, tell her it's because the TAXOL is kicking cancer's ass.

I drank water like crazy...trying to down a tall glass of water every hour. It really helped me get past each treatment. In fact, each treatment seemed to be a little easier each time.
