Hi ladies and neighbors! I sort of disappeared for awhile - just knuckling down trying to get through my last rounds of chemo.  Wanted to go to the events this spring but between last minute visitors and the drive down south (my husband works weekends)... couldn't make them, although it looked like fun and really want to meet other ladies going through this.

Today I finished my last infusion and need a blood transfusion this weekend, but actually doing pretty well (considering).  Now I am trying to schedule my life now around follow ups and around upcoming surgery and radiation.

Can't make the June event.  I have my surgery scheduled July 13 - not sure if it'll be a lumpectomy/partial mastectomy or a mastectomy.  Got to wait to see how my final chemo has done before we decide.  So depending on how I'm healing - July 24th may be a possibility.  Has anyone else in the group had their surgery at Mayo?

    Hi swiftbird (Tracey);

Glad to know that you are getting through all of this. Last rounds are the best. That means you are almost done with that part of it. I do hope your surgery goes well for you. I can tell you yes I have had surgery at the Mayo Clinic on 56th St/101. They are a wonderful hospital. Very attentive. I loved being there. They check on you and are there as soon as you need them. No waiting around. Who is your Dr. There are a few Dr. that the ladies have all gone to. I look forward to meeting you.

    Blessings, Elizabeth

Hi everyone!  Just wondering about something.  I post on another site for cancer survivors.  It is csn.cancer.org  I have met another woman on there named Connie.  She also lives here in the valley.  I told her about the monthly get togethers and she said she'd love to meet everyone as well.  She wasn't sure about this month's but if she can come is it too late for her to be added?  I think she used to post on here so I will ask her about that and give her the name of this thread.  If she's still registered on here I'll try to find out what her screen name is.

Ebann, thanks for the info and good wishes.  Ahh finally done with my last treatment. Now just coping with normal SEs.

My doctors at Mayo are Dr Northfelt (Onc); Dr Pockaj (surgeon); and Dr Kemylman (PS, if necessary). Can't remember my radiologist's name yet - that's in August... Awesome well coordinated team. I can't imagine having to coordinate several hospitals and practices for this journey.

Hope to see you all soon and I heal quickly in July and can meet up!!!

Hello Sisters,   The tea parlour was a great success. Loved it will have to do it again sometime soon. This time I am looking at us going for ice cream. This came from Jill. A great suggestion thank you. Nothing like a nice cool treat with these hot summer days. I hope to see you all there.

Hi everyone!  I love the Sugar Bowl!  That's my old "stomping grounds".  I used to work at Farrell's Ice Cream Parlour just down the street.  (Unfortunately, it's no longer there.)

I am having my exchange surgery 6/29 so barring any complications I'll be there!  Sounds like fun!

I will go just to meet everyone and socialize but I will not put any type of sugar in my body ever other than natural sugars  from fruit because your body can't physically process it. Don't mean to be a debbie downer but that is just the personal trainer in me coming out. But I cant wait to meet you all. Smile

    Hi Jenn

What's your take on sugar and hot flashes?  I was in the middle of menopause when I had a hysterectomy and ovaries removed.  I find now that if I eat anything with high sugar content (such as cake or lots of candy) I get a raging hot flash.  It does not happen if I eat fruit, rice, whole grain bread, etc.

I hope to be able to meet up with everyone at this gathering in July.

I totally think that sugar effects hot flashes. You can actually control your hot flashes through diet. I am not saying that you wont get them at all but they can be controlled. I have them but I have never had one of them last more than 1 minute. I highly recommend getting the book The Anti Estrogenic Diet. It is so educational. You learn so much about  what we are doing to our bodies. Yes you still produce estrogen even after menopause just not from your ovaries. Do you have a lot of stored fat around your stomach, butt, legs and arms??? That is because the food that is processed is just turning to fat and being stored.

I know that the average person does not know what I know and I dont expect anyone to know the things that I do that is because I spend several hours a day doing research on all of this stuff because I want to be able to help people especially those with cancer. I am here to help those that want it. So feel free to ask me whatever you want, if I don't know the answer I will find it for you. Or you can just save your questions for the July meeting

I am lactose intolerant, but I looked at their website.  You can have a salad like I am going to do.

Jennifer, you are anything but a Debbie Downer. Personally I wish you were around me 24/7! Maybe I'd lose a few pounds! It's people like you that have willpower and perseverance, things that people like me lack.

Hi Jenn, yes they have a menu on their website. They also have a veggie sandwich. I will be having a salad or sandwich. Ice cream is not on my life change in eating. Love ice cream though it is a weakness of mine so we will see how will I will do. Laughing http://sugarbowlscottsdale.com/Sugarbowl_menu.html So everyone please check out their menu to make sure it is good for you as well. Just come by and get to know us is great too. Kat the idea of the Trolley ride sounds great. Just out in this heat I think I will pass on that one. Maybe I will plan that another time when the weather cools down.
