LOL Patty
-
Patty - you're funny, I say go for it.
-
Patty - I use a dab of some surfer dude type stuff to help tame my hair. I just towel dry, rub in a bit and use fingers to decide which bits should lie flat and which stick up. Really fast!

great video - just found it on another thread!
-
Gillyone, I LOVE THIS VIDEO! I just posted this on my facebook for all to see! {{{HUGS}}} Donna
-
LOL Patty! I agree, put in some styling goop and go for it-you look great.
Loved this video, what a hoot. I'm going to share it with my friends. Thanks Gilly!
So yesterday was day 1 commando at work. Was not bad. Everyone said it was chic, cute or stylish. I asked if it was just sympathy for cancer girl but they insisted it suited me well. Oh well, I don't see it but it's commando from here on in regardless. I got a lot of looks, that's for sure! Another step forward!
Rads is done Tuesday now. Tomorrow is maintenance day on the machine so I am one day delayed. Then start Tamoxifen after. That's OK, I can combine the doctors visit so it turns out better anyway. So far I am a little tired but not too badly burned. The skin is staying intact so far so just 2 more days... And I can't feel most of it any way-one good use for nerve damage!
Take care all!
Yo

Gilly - Love the video!
Yo - Hooray for commando! I'll let you know when I join you. Also, congrats on your rads completion next week. You probably already know this.... but expect your skin to get worse for a week or so after you're done. So keep slathering on the stuff. I found the tiredness went away really quickly.

Thanks for the video link - I love it!!!
Yo - congrats on being done soon and going commando. Doesn't it feel great?
Patty-commando yet?
-
Just checking in to say hello and hope everyone is having a good weekend.
-
Hey Jenn! Had a lot of fun this weekend -- saw a few movies (PRINCE OF PERSIA -- thumbs up; SOLITARY MAN -- eh, good acting but a depressing story). Hope your weekend was fantastic!
-
Hi all - too busy watching the world cup to do much else. And then wimbledon starts tomorrow!!!!
-
Cold and wet AGAIN with the heat on. We are fed up with the weather. It is supposed to be in the 70s tomorrow. I know that's not great but we will take it!
-
Finished rads yesterday! Yay!! I get to reclaim my normal life, no more daily trips to the hospital!! Still soaking in the feeling. I guess I will start Tamoxifen Monday-take the weekend off from cancer.
Overall OK, but I have a pretty bad burnt spot under my arm, I guess we shall see how bad it gets. I have an antibiotic cream from the doc so ! will keep slathering it on.
Take care all!
-
Woo hooo YoYo!!!
-
great Yoyo! Hope your skin heals fast.
-
Yo - you've had such a long road to travel and I'm so glad you are finished with rads!!! Whoo Hoo!!! I remember the first few days after finishing, I felt like I had so much more time after work, I was actually a little lost. Remember to keep taking care of your skin
Gill - I know you're tired of cold and wet, we're soooo very tired of hot and wet. Maybe we could trade for a week.....
Lilah - I went to see Sex in the City, which I hadn't seen yet and for Father's Day my DH choose A-Team, trying to spare me from Ironman. Surprisingly enough A-Team wasn't bad and I just love Bradley Cooper and Liam Niasom (sp?).
Upon the suggestion of my Rad Onc I went to see a Lymphedema Specialist, not having real problems, but a little pain. He thought it would be a good idea to learn about it and know what to look for and how to care for myself. The therapist/specialist was wonderful, showed me things to do to prevent problems as well as what to do if I have minor swelling or any swelling. Then she gave me a small science lesson, which really helped me understand it better and said I didn't need to come back. I have some swelling in my forearm, but it's very little and she thinks it'll be fine by continuing my exercises and massaging it like she showed me.
How is everyone doing with their new hair styles? Mine is really, really curly. When I pull it straight in the back the actual length brings it to the bottom of my neck, but the curls are so tight it looks like it 's just below the top of my neck. I call it my slinky hair. It's also very thick. I've tried styling it, but I think I actully like the short curly look for now.
-
Hey Jenn! Yeah I liked A-Team -- was a fun movie and I totally agree about Liam Neeson and Bradley Cooper. Ironman2 is not horrible, by the way
That's great re: the PT advice... and so glad you don't have to worry!
My hair is straight! I can't believe it. I always had curly hair as a child... wavy hair (that ended in curls in the back) when it got longer. It has body and maybe a little wave to it, so that is good. I am kinda glad it's not curly as I don't think that would look good on me. I have to say I'm enjoying the short boy hair -- and everyone who sees me now is very complimentary about it (and most don't even know about the BC). So that's cool.
-
Yo - Hooray for being done with rads! Keep slathering up that bad spot. It might get a little worse for a few days, but soon enough it'll start going the other way.
As for my hair...DISASTER! So curly, so drab, so frizzy on the ends. If I work and work at it I can get it looking presentable, but who has time for a half hour just on hair? And such short hair at that. So, I'm still slapping on my wig. I'm going for a root touch up next week (Yes! Roots! So happy to see them!) so maybe my hairdresser can do some magic.
Patty
-
Patty -- but your hair looks so pretty in your avatar! I don't understand how it can look as bad as you are saying... maybe you just need a trim along with that touch up? To cut away the frizzy ends? I had a trim in May and I have to say my hair has looked so much better ever since.
-
Lilah - I took the avatar photo when I got home from the hairdresser after my first color and "do". She did great! I never got it to look so good again. It has definitely grown so I'm hoping after my appointment next Monday I'll be able to do something with it. I'm not sure why I'm having such a problem but it is very, very thick and very, very curly and definitely has a mind of its own.
This morning I jumped out of the shower, toweled my hair, looked in the mirror and scared myself. 2" sticking straight out all over my head. Yikes!
Patty
-
LOL Patty -- well all I can say is this: (1) you have hair!!!!! and (2) see if you can get some tips from your hair dresser.
-
Patty - you're probably harder on yourself and I'm sure it looks good. But....I get it, if you're not "feeling it", then you have to do what feels comfortable.
I still haven't trimmed mine, I'm going with the curly look. I do use bobby pins on the sides to hold it down, once it's dry I can take them out. This keeps the two puff balls from forming over my ears.
-
Patty - just try it!!! Go home commando after your hair appointment and see how it feels. I know what you mean with morning hair. When I get out of bed, on the sides and back, my hair is flat from lying on it, but on top - like a mohawk!!! I even go out like that as I have started walking for 30 minutes early in the morning.
Jenn and Lilah - when do we get to see your new dos?
-
Thanks for the encouragement ladies! How's your port scar coming along Gill? I saw my surgeon yesterday and she said mine was doing great. There is a rather big divot in my chest but she said massaging the scar would help with that. May be if we put your bump in my divot, we'd both have a flat chest!
Oh...and...my surgeon found a lump under my scar during the exam yesterday. She isn't too worried about it, thought it might be scar tissue or a cyst, but she's sending me for a ultrasound just to make sure. I'm determined not to get freaked out about this. After being poisoned for 24-weeks, zapped with radiation 28 times and now starved by Femara...how could any cancer be growing?
Patty
-
Gill - I would love to post a picture, but for some reason this particular site won't accept them. I keep getting error messages.........They post everywhere but here - strange???
Patty - I'm going to say cyst or scar tissue and agree that after all you've been through it can't be anything else.
-
Yes Patty - I'll send my bump over!! However it is just a little bump now, and there is just a tiny bit of bruising left on my boob.Thnaks for asking. My scar is not too pretty either. But it seems like it's healed just fine. And freaking out is not allowed - I'm sure we are all healthy. I have not seem either the surgeon or the rad onc since right after tx with them. Perhaps because I had a lumpectomy and I'm done with the surgeon?
Jenn - that is so weird about posting pictures. Do you Facebook? I have a hair album on my page showing progression of my hair over the past year. But I was not brave enough to post a bald picture. On top, my hair is almost 2 inches long when it is stretched out. It doesn't look that long though with all the kinks and twirls etc.
-
Oh I know I need to take a picture but I hate taking pictures
Soon -- soon!
Patty -- I refuse to believe it is anything but scar tissue. It's good you have a very careful doctor -- not taking anything for granted -- but it has got to be impossible!
-
Jenn - another thought about pictures. I remember that I had to put my avatar picture up on the web elsewhere, then copy it and put on bco. Could not do it directly from my home pc.
-
Gill - Did you put it on something like snapfish or kodak? It'll take other pictures, but not from the set I want - it really is strange. I do facebook and have the picture I wanted to post here on my pictures on my facebook page.
Lilah - for the most part I have been avoiding pictures, but get stuck in a few.
-
Lilah - Love your new avatar! You look very sophisticated and "arty". Both qualities you definitely possess.
Gilly - I think follow-up protocol is dictated by your health system. I had a lumpectomy as well, but the protocol at my HMO is that you see the surgeon every six months for five years for a really thorough manual breast exam. I'll also see the Onc every six months for five years. The idea is to get these two on alternating six months, so you are examined every three months. After my final visit to the rad Onc, I was told I would not see her again.
Have a great weekend ladies!
Patty
