Excited to find cheap Camisoles at Target

Thank you Lovemygarden for measuring your beanies! I was all set to order mine a bit bigger in size 6, now after seeing Coonie's pics, I'm not so sure.
Coonie, could you possibly measure your beanies for me as well? My camis are XL, so wonder if the size 6 beanies would get lost in there?

Dawn, I can totally relate to the whole "right/wrong foob size" thing! Pre-BMX, I was midway between an A and B cup ... always wore the I Can't Believe It Fits bras, by Playtex, in a "Nearly B" cup which were perfect. I love having the beanie-foobs in both the size 4 (A cup) and size 5 (B cup), because now I can customize my boobage .. er, foobage
... to the type of top I'm wearing. The knit t-tops that I love look best (IMO) with the size 4 beanie, because those tops are more clingy. With my looser tops and later on my heavier sweaters, the size 4 doesn't project enough to be noticeable. so the size 5 beanie looks best with those --- gives the same effect as the size 4 does with the thinner tops.
I used to do the same thing with bras, before BC ... wore either the contoured one or the light fiberfill one, depending on the top. Some things never change!
Edited to add: My one teeeeny complaint about the Target crossover cami (size M) is that I wish the adjustable part of the straps was their full length, or at least a longer section than it is, because even with the straps as short as they can possibly go, I'd prefer it if my foobs could be just a little bit higher. This is something I'm 100% sure that nobody but me would notice, and ironically the foob placement right now is ideal for my port because the top of the cami hits just under it and doesn't touch it at all (I hate hate hate anything 'solid' touching the port area). But after the port comes out next summer I would love to be able to lift the foobs a tiny bit higher, so I may break out the needle and thread and shorten the straps a little more that way. However, while I still have the port the foob placement with the shortest strap position is perfect.

Coonie, THANK YOU for the pictues. I decided I am going to try to make a foob. I bought the micro beads and some fabric similar to the cover for one of the others I have. We'll see. I'll let you know how it goes

I have been following this thread with great interest and finally decided to try out the TLC micro bead lightweight forms that everyone is talking about. I have to say I am VERY impressed! They are so lightweight and comfortable to wear I hardly know they are there! One of my issues about not wearing prosthesis is because heavy silicone forms in bras with tight bra bands are just not good for my lymphedema. Plus the weight of heavy forms always pulled my clothing away from my chest and just did not look or feel natural. With my height and body type I wear size 7-8 forms and weight is a real issue for me. These micro bead forms though are light as a feather and do not pull clothing away. I even found some of the Target camis with the bra pockets and the size 7-8 micro bead forms fit great in the XL camis.
While I still plan on going flat most the time, it is great to know I can wear these forms for those special times when I need to fill out my clothing to better advantage. I am thinking about sewing bra pockets into some of my other camisoles to fit the new micro bead forms. I'm not crazy about the skinny straps on the Target camis, but I have to admit they are very comfortable.
Thanks to Coonie for telling us about these two great finds!
P.S. Sunshine where did you find a supply of micro beads to buy? Are they the really tiny polyurethane micro beads? I have seen places selling polystyrene micro beads but they are not the same as what they use in the breast forms. I too have been thinking about making my own foobies but haven't found a place to buy the right beads.
-
Lindalou, you can find the microbeads at Jo-Ann stores, and through their website. The brand is Fairfield Poly-fil Microbeads. The only downside is that they are sold only in a fairly large (20-oz) bag but you could always make other things like pillows, headrests, computer/mouse wrist rests with them too! The bag costs about $20 but Jo-Ann Stores always have coupons for 40% or 50% off....
Edit: Sorry, I just realized that you are looking for polyurethane beads, not polystyrene... the Fairfield ones are polystyrene.
I wonder if it makes a difference though? The main difference seems to be when they are used for insulation: http://www.sunsationalgreen.com/?page_id=47

Coonie should be back on maybe today or tomorrow. (Just in case anyone was wondering why she's not replied.)
Today I decided to have a look see what I could find in the way of camis. I'm a uniboober. There is very limited shopping here (I'll check next time I'm in the city) but where I did stop I asked a gal if they had any such thing. They didn't but (and this is unblievable) the girl I asked is going in on Monday for surgery for b.c. Same Dr. as I had. Small small world.
Gentle hugs all.

Come back Coonie!!!!!
I can't believe I didn't get myself to Target when it was a mile from the house.
Now we're headed out to the wilderness and there's a Target about an hour away.
Ding-dong.
My new surgeon still doesn't me want to use anything heavier than my little fluffies, till we can get my incision line under control.
You gals firgure this all out & once you have it all conquered, I'll jump into the fray.
Maybe by fall??? LOL.
Fluffies forward. Shoulders back.
Good thing that clevage was never a part of my performance.
More laughing.

Lovemygarden I really don't know how much difference there is between polyurethane and polystyrene beads but I was just assuming the polyurethane ones might be better suited for using in a swimsuit. I know the TLC site says their micro bead forms can be used in water. I also think the size of the beads is important. The really really tiny ones do a better job of molding to the body and looking smooth. I will definitely check out the polystyrene micro beads at Jo-Anns.
The other thing I have thought about doing is buying one of those soft squishy neck pillows that uses micro beads and opening up the seam to pour them out and use for breast forms. Should be plenty to make 3 or 4 foobies with! They used to sell them at Walgreens for like $10 each. In fact I might even be able to reuse the neck pillow's soft nylon covering material to make the foobie covering with. Its good to recycle!
Thanks for letting me know about Jo-Anns!

I received the Cool Comfort Cami from TLC today and here's my "review". I got the Beige in size Medium.
PROs:
* The fabric is very soft and comfortable.
* The breastform pockets and pocket openings are HUGE.. my size 5 microbead form fit with plenty of room. You could fit a 6 or 7 form into these pockets, I'm sure.
MAYBE GOOD/MAYBE BAD:
* There is a wide elastic band under the pockets only (does not go all the way around) but in the size M cami it is not tight on me (I weigh 110 lbs); good since I hate anything that feels snug or constricting. In fact it, and the front itself, is quite loose which brings up the:
CONs:
* There is so much room in the front that the cami top edge (which is lace trimmed) gaps open noticeably. Looks very sloppy.
* Those oversize pockets allow even the microbead form to "droop" noticeably too.
* The straps are not adjustable for their full length, only for what IMHO is a too-short section in the back.
* The color of the lace trim on the beige cami doesn't even remotely match the body! The body is medium beige but the lace trim is a sort of sage-greeny color (think "faded camo"). Ugh.
* Overall the cami is cut too big in the front (IMO) but too skimpy across the back. That's why I am returning it instead of exchanging it for a size Small ... I know the back would be annoyingly tight because it almost is with the size M. When I tried shortening the straps more, the top front gapped even more and the armholes became too high for my comfort. Of course YMMV, but overall I'd say this cami is a poor cut/design. It's made in China, what else is new....?
Oh well, more return postage!

Struck out again today at Wallymart.

Hi LindaLou and everyone,
I did get the micro-beads at JoAnn Fabrics. They are really, really tiny. I also got some soft stretchy fabric to try to make the form. Haven't done it yet, but here is what I tried:
I took a pair of panty hose and cut off about a foot (no pun intended) - 12 inches - off the bottom. Then I took the big bag of micro beads on my big smooth kitchen island and using a wide funnel (like for canning) poured about a cup of micro-beads into the stocking (I'm small busted). It's kind of messy, but then I tied off the end of the stocking and squished the beads around and then put it in my bra. It felt super comfortable. I just need to work on getting the right amount in there, and then I'll make some kind of cover.
Don't know what I'll do with all the extra micro-beads unless I start selling breast forms on the corner
Anyone else tried to make their own form yet?

Hi Ladies, I am reading this thread with much interest. I had partmast.8 days ago. still have my staples/drain in. swelling going down and i am realizing that I am really going to need help.
Good? side is 46F and new side is much much smaller. I asked Dr. how much tissue he took and he said "Lots" yes he did but thats OK. always wanted reduction but not quite this way.
However Im going to need to really add to the new side until reduc on other side- non of my tops will look right.
Luckly my Mom sews and will be able to make me something to wear so all this info is very helpful. What is the TLC website?? thanks and (((to all))))

Jet3648 the TLC website stands for "Tender Loving Care" and is sponsored by the American Cancer Society. They have products for women going through chemotherapy and surgery.
This is the link to the details page on the Micro Bead light weight forms:
http://www.tlcdirect.org/products/sku-8139__dept-34.html
The largest form size they sell in the Micro Beads is a 15 which is like a 50DD. Since you will need to augment your partial mast side though and your mom sews, the micro beads at Jo-Anns Fabric store might be better for making a custom sized bra insert.
Sunshine thanks for the update on the micro beads at Jo-Anns. I will definitely try them out. I picked up some very lightweight poly-knit fabric that should work for both bra pockets and also breast form covers. I was thinking I would use my digital kitchen scale to weigh the microbeads so I could get the same amount each time for each form. My size 7 form weighs 0.75 ounces and the size 8 weighs 0.85 ounces. My chest is uneven after the surgery so I need a larger form on the right to look even. I will let you know if I get a form made. Won't have time to get the beads and try it til later next week. Right now I'm sewing pockets in some camis and tank tops!

LindaLou53 Thanks for the response. I found the TLC website. Yes since Im going to need to augment until my reduction I will have my Mom make pockets to go inside my current bras and microbead forms to move around. She will be thrilled as she feels so helpless and wants to do something and there is not much she can do for me. just a side note. 3 days after my diag. she was diag. with a malg tumor on her thymus gland and will be having Cyberknife treatments This will give her something to keep her hands and mind occupied. She is 86 and needs to feel necessary. Thanks for the info.

Sunshine----LOLOL....If you'll tell me where your corner is located, I'll be purchasing my next set of boobs from you
It sounds like you've got the perfect idea....and cheaper too!
Sher---I'm sorry, but I've been out of pocket a few days. I'll get those measurements for you real soon.
It's so good to hear about other ideas. Since this was forced on all of us, we might as well make the best of it, huh?.........with boobs or without.....
Hugs to all of ya!!
-
Hi Jet3648--- so very sorry you AND your mother are going through this. Hope you're feeling better soon and sure hope her procedure goes well! I'm impressed that she's 86 and still able to help you. What a blessing!! Keep us posted, ok?
-
Sher---the measurement of my foobie is a little more than 6.5" across, but they're really squishy. I just wonder if the different sizes are more for fullness than anything else. I'm kinda thinking your size would work ok in the XL cami, but just may be a little less full than a larger size foobie. I hope it works out for you.
-
Sharon and Faithie---next time I go to Target I'm gonna get you each a cami. I think you'd like 'em.
-
Thanks to everyone for all the posts! Very reassuring to those of us who are chosing BMX with no recon. Mine is on July 12. I appreciate all the info you are sharing so much!
-
sespebadger--good luck on your upcoming surgery.
I'm 2 years out from my bilateral, and have no regrets so far. It's just fun and interesting to come up with new alternatives for "boobs".......they can be bigger, smaller, totally flat.....whatever you're in the mood for that particular day. Keep us posted on your surgery. I'm sure you'll do fine.
-
My mom had a single mast in 2001 and has frequently complained that she hates her silicone breast form, it doesn't match her remaining saggy boob so she only wears it for special occasions, 99% of the time she goes flat on one side. I have seen the clear plastic beeds at Handcock fabrics (I use in pincushions) I may try making her a new fake boob with some soft knit fabric. thanks everyone for the ideas and photos on how to create a beed-boob.

Thanks Coonie! Yep, you're probably right about the beanie boob sizes. If a size 5 is 6" across, likely it's more a fill issue since the footfprint doesn't seem to change much. I ended up ordering a size 7 and after all the positive comments, I can't wait to get them.
-
Hi Ladies, Mom is excited to be able to help me with a beaniebag boob to augment my part.mx until I have a reduction on the otherone. I found that I have a pillow full of tiny beads that we are going to start with. On my TV they have been advertising a Sobakawa pillow full of little beads.
I expect it will be at Walgreens/CVS Seen on TV shelfs. Think I will check that out instead of the big bag of beads at JoAnn's Don't think I can stand on the street corner in this heat in OK.
By the way, are there any of Okies out there???
-
Hi Coonie, Well its been a while since you mentioned this thread to me in another thread. Ive had my prophy on Tues just gone, and so Ive just come back and read through everything to date. All this info is going to be more and more useful to me as I contemplate my options. Thankyou for starting this great thread. This is a wonderful resource.
jet3648, thats soooo true that our mums need to feel needed and useful. Its what keeps mine going too, and mine is just about the same age as yours. I hope she will be alright.

Just ordered the size 5 micro-bead forms from TLC and some Target crossover camis! I'm hoping this will be a good option for me post surgery after my drains are removed. Thanks for all the great info.
-
Hi girls! You know the funniest and cutest thing about this conversation? The old amazons, back in the day, made their foobs from stockings and birdseed. Now THEY knew a thing or two
silicon doesn't move or breath anywhere as well as beads..OR birdseed
And besides..you could spend the $$$ difference on nicer girlie stuff like makeup or getting your (TAC-trashed) nails done! xxx
-
My aunt showed me the boob she made from a stocking and birdseed back in 1988. When I had my bilat, however, it seemed too hard to use on my very sensitive skin. Now that I'm 4 years out, I'm loving my new microbeads, and I think of Aunt Lyn everyday! She died less than a year after her mast, and I felt her presence as I made my own decisions.

Ladies -
I have a question about the TLC microbead forms. I had a bilateral mastectomy, and first got the Amoena Tri-leisure foam forms in a size 8. They are about the size that I used to be, so they work quite well. (silicone forms were WAY too heavy - gave me backaches).
So I ordered the TLC microbead forms in a size 8, and wore them for the first time on Saturday. They were very lightweight, which was good, but they flattened out after about an hour. It was like I was wearing pancakes. I looked back in this thread, and it seemed like most ladies were getting much smaller sizes.
Maybe they don't work as well in the larger sizes? I can't wear the smaller sizes, 'cause I'm a big girl (height and weight). Do I just need to get a larger size (eek!)?
And can I return them even though I wore them all day? You can probably tell that I wore them in 95 degree heat - will they still take them back?
I thought about wearing them as swimming forms, since I don't have anything for that yet.
Thoughts?
-
Hi Cornellalum,
I'm also tall and wear a size 7-8 silicone form. I got the Sz 7 and Sz 8 TLC microbead forms and know what you are talking about when you say they flatten. What I have discovered is it is VERY important the type of bra or garment you wear them in. If you wear them in a garment in which the bra pocket is too large and roomy, the forms will not project well and will seem flat in profile. If you wear them in a tight spandex shapewear type garment it will also tend to flatten the form since the garment fabric pushes back so strongly. If you wear them in a well-defined cup that closely encases the form so it can only expand by pushing forward it will give a much rounder and better projecting profile. The Target camisoles work fairly well because the pockets are relatively small and very triangle shaped to make the forms not flatten out. I have some tops that the forms look flat in but other tops that the same forms have a very nice rounded profile.
Here is a pic of an old tank top with a shelf bra that I converted to pockets and used extra stitching to help shape the microbead forms like they would be in a standard bra cup. The forms have nice projection even when not wearing them.
One thing to remember about these lightweight microbead forms is that they will shape to whatever pressure is applied to them and will take the shape of the container they are held in. When I drive with the seatbelt across my chest it does tend to flatten the right form but then I just do a little "hand molding' to push it back to normal shape after removing the seat belt.
I love the TLC microbead forms and they are the only forms I have found I am willing to wear. I don't think the size of the form makes a difference. It is just a characteristic of the very mobile microbeads in a light stretchy covering. Try wearing a different type of bra or top with a smaller bra pocket and see if you notice a difference in achieving the profile you are looking for.
-
Cornellalum---LindaLou is absolutely right. The smaller the "pocket space" the bigger the poof. I even give them a squeeze a few times a day to keep the poof
