Temperpedic bed for bone mets?
Hi,
I have difficulty sleeping and moving around, It seems I can only fall asleep on one side because of damage to hip and back. When I get up in the morning it hurts to move. So, I was in a store and layed on the temp beds and it seemed so comfy and felt like the bed gave to my body parts.
These beds are so expensive though like 2-4 grand. Does anyone own this bed and did it help the pain?
Thanks,

I own a Tempur-Pedic bed (have had it for the last 15 years). At the time I needed a new bed, and also had lower back pain. The bed helped. I know a few other people who also own Tempur-Pedics and all seem very pleased. I have the basic model (at the time there was only one model) and it was under 2K (for a King size).
I can't speak to whether or not it will ease your hip and back pain due to mets. But the company does have a 90 day guarantee. If you're not satisfied, you can return it.

Hi Maureen! I ,too, had problems sleeping due to bone mets. I always wanted an Tempur-Pedic but could not afford one. In November 2009, after doing lots of research, I got a memory foam mattress from: www.BedInABox.com I absolutely love my bed! It is very similar to Tempur-Pedic but alot less expensive. They also have a guarantee. Wishing you a good night's sleep!

I don't have a Termperpedic, but I have a Sleep Number. I LOVE IT! Yes, it is a bit expensive, but so worth it. I can't really say if it will help with your bone mets discomfort, but I know I have got the best nights sleep since we got this bed about 5 years ago. No more waking up with a sore neck or back like with a regular mattress. Hope this helps some, and hope you find something that works for you so you can get some rest. Take care!

I love my temper mattress. I was having bad hip and back pain and now I do not even notice it. When I travel and sleep on other mattress's I can really feel the difference.

Hi MC,
Thanks for the link, what a difference in price. I will do more research on the products and decide which one to buy. I mind as well invest in a good bed we spend alot of time napping and sleeping.

I have a hospital bed. With an upgraded mattress. The mattress has egg carton cutouts to help alleviate bedsores as you tend to sleep in one position. I have had very good sleeps in this bed. I keep the head raised due to pleural effusions. There is also plenty of storage under the bed.

HI MCTHO,
I went on line and bought the 11in memory foam from bedinabox. The price was much better than tempurpedic. So far, its comfy better than a regular mattress. Its not a miracle worker I still hurt in the morning but not as bad. Thanks again for the suggestion

As a "Sleep Expert", I have some pointers. Memory foam, or viscoelastic, can be VERY warm/hot for those of us with hot flashes. Also, if you weigh a tad more than your doctor wants, you will sink into the foam a bit more and will have to "climb" out of the well you have made. It can make turning over harder. You have to judge if your pain is muscular or skeletal. Otherwise, it's used for burn victims as well because there are no pressure points.
Another thing, you should sleep with a pillow between your knees when you lie on your side. Otherwise the long muscle over your hips is stretched all night and can make you sore. As well, sleeping with a pillow under your knees should only be a short-term remedy. It can shorten the long muscles in your legs and cause worse problems later in life.
A good mattress should come up and meet your lower back and support you that way. You should be changing your mattress every 8 years if there is 2 adults on it. Now is not the time to cheap out. Spend as much as you can afford. You spend 1/3 of your life on it....

I have owned a temperpedic for 4 years, back in the days of innocence before BC, and I always thought I was the only person on the planet who hated them. I found mine to be very hot and hard and uncomfortable. I used to tell my husband that I was climbing on to my rock to go to bed. I so regretted the decision to buy one. Last summer we had a friend who had to move in for awhile so we switched beds with him so now we have a very nice, expensive temperpedic mattress for our housequests to enjoy. Most of them like it. I'm not sure exactly what mattress we ended up with but it has some type of a pillow top and I am much more comfortable and not as hot.
If you do decide to try the temperpedic take them up on the 30 day trial offer so you don't end up regretting your decision like I did.

I hope the BedinBox is good. I did the resa earch a bit when myhip mets were bad. I bought a 4" topper from Walmart. It helped alot during that monster flair. But eventually sleeping in the deep well was hard on my back muscles. So I rolled it up and put it away until I need it next time.
I am now OK on my pillow top mattress. I think I will add a 2" topper that is very "firm foam" next time so that it gives for my hip and shoulders but doesnt suck me into bed oblivion.
Live and learn.
Tempur is out of my price range for sure. I blew it all on Disney and would do it again!!!!

i love my tempurpedic mattress.. I really don't love sleep, but every nite I relish the thought of sinking softly into it. it's really fantastic. i suggest the fake tempurpedic.. the advantage is that there are no pressure points.. your weight is even ly supported.
sweet sleep!

I have a sleep number bed (got it from my mom after her divorce)... I don't have issues and my back problems are okay...when we camp I use I memory foam mattress topper. Which makes a huge difference.
I sleep with a fan on me..the only way I survive

ThanksBarbe,
You know I am premenopause and I am on Tamoxofin. So, I am sweating like crazy in this new foam bed. I wake up drenched every nite. I think its been worse since I have been sleeping on the memory foam. I could send it back its still under the 60 day trial period. I'll have to sleep on it.LOL

i have read that lots of people get relief from a chillow (temperature wise)

there are many on ebay.

When shopping for new mattresses, I really didn't care for the memory foam. It seemed as though it would really hold the heat (still getting hot flashes & night sweats) and I didn't care for the "cocoon" feeling. We ended up with a 100% latex foam mattress with a motion frame and just love it! According to what I have read and heard, the latex foam has better circulation. And it has a quicker return - you don't feel like you are laying in clay. I guess people either love or hate tempur-pedics - it's all personal preference.

I have bone mets in most areas of the spine. I don't own a Temperpedic myself, but slept on one at my sister's place. It was comfortable but didn't make any major difference with my hip or back pain.

You wont go wrong if you get a memory foam mattress from bedinabox.com. I have had one for about 4 months and it has really helped with my back problems. 1st post here guys! What do i need to do to get a picture under my name and my diagnosis date????
-
Costco has a memory foam topper (right temp) the doesn't hold the heat my niece slept on it for months and said it was much better than the expensive memory mattress she had at home. Also if you don't like it you can take it back at Costco.
-
The costco toppers are a great deal and are wonderful to sleep on. We have purchased two; one for the kid's nasty bed in her college dorm room, and the other for a single bed in the spare guest room.
And you are right... Costco's return policy is extremely generous.

That's a really good way to cover a "communal mattress" as dust mites and pillow mites can't travel through the foam.

I had a great mattress but didn't move it back to Canada. I bought a piece of crap $200 mattress that I have on the floor. I'm in agony. Is it possible to get a decent mattress set for $1000? Or, can I get a good mattress and put it on the old one instead of buying a box spring with the new one? Help!!!!
-
Girl you should not be on the floor. Yes, for that money you can definetly find something nice with a frame that can take you off the floor. Thats alot of money and the bed in box foam matress I purchased was less than that. Sometime you can find a used frame on craigslist for free or cheap. I don't know if you have a freecycle.org but I have used this site to get rid of things. I post what I want to give away and someone comes over and picks it up and reuses it. I hope you look into finding a nice bed for yourself.

We have a $250 refurb queen mattress that we purchased in 2008 just prior to coming home from my bx/mx. I was very happy with it for about 6 months and then the hill started to appear. I think what happens with these refurb beds is that they replace all of the foam and soft support but the springs will always have the "memory" of being squished from who knows how long they were used. I am now considering a new mattress or maybe the memory topper from costco. My BFF just purchase an off brand memory mattress that is foam on the top and springs on the bottom, Eastern King, for $595. I need to go there to see about a queen.

Hi Mohonda,
At the point, I can recommend you few of the health products that can help you a lot. These innovative health care products are not expensive and easy to afford for you. Heat wrap is a kind of product that can give you relief from your pain. Another product is a special kind of pillow, i.e. chillow that can help your head to chill. Please try the products and relax.

Hello Sea thanks for your suggestions. But I have to question whether you are on this site to get patients to try your products it seems suspicious that you are not registered as a cancer patient here. Do you work for these companies. I hope u are not here just to sell.

I brought my mother a memory foam mattress because she couldn't no longer get on her bed. She is a lot more comfortable now then she was before. Her bed adjust up and down, but I couldn't afford to get her the one for her legs too but she was pleased. My mom was diagnosed with stage Iv breast Cancer in December. She is still fighting, and I am with her every step of the way. I am happy that there are blogs for other people to comment about there experience. There

Dear Michelleeaddy13,
Welcome to the community. We are glad that you reached out on behalf of you mom and yourself. We notice that this is an old thread that has not had recent attention. Perhaps you can start a new topic or review those listed under the forum for Caregivers of those with stage 4 breast cancer.

I have a sleep number and love it to pieces. I can change the firmness any time I want which makes it invaluable to me. You may also want to check out Casper. They are cheaper than temperpedic and don't have the issues with heat retention that a lot of foam mattresses have.

Yes, this is a thread that has been inactive for over 5 years. Great topic, however, so a new thread would be a great idea
