I just found this thread and thought I'd jump in and see if anybody has any suggestions for me. I'm moving to Phoenix from GA in a few months and will need to find an oncologist and gynecologist and am looking for suggestions from you girls. One of the big anxieties about moving for me is finding a doctor. Anyone go to Mayo, or are there other good alternatives? I'm 3 years out, on tamoxifen. I'm also wondering how to deal with the heat as I suffer through hot flashes in my 50 degree bedroom and think of summers in the desert. I know, its a dry heat, but still! Thanks for any help you have. I'm also trying to decide on an area to live. Work will be in Scottsdale.

Jennifer - Glad to hear that you will be moving to Phoenix. We have a Phoenix based support group that we would love you to join. I will make sure the group leader contacts you. At least three of the gals in the Phoenix support group have had reconstruction surgery at Mayo. I will also have them give you the names of their oncologists. I was fortunate, and did not have node involvement, so do not have an oncologist.
Phoenix covers a large area and there are many nice areas to live. It just depends on what is important to your life style. I live very close to Scottsdale, so I will gladly connect up with you when you move. And don't worry about the heat. Everyone has airconditioning and it is not hard to deal with. Robin

Thanks, Robin. I'll look forward to meeting you and hearing from more folks,

Hi Everyone,
New to the thread, unfortunately, and yet nice to know there's others closeby... just getting ready to start down this long hard road. Still waiting to get back some final info on HER2 and BRAC, but without going into too much detail yet, have a fairly atypical BC (yay I'm so special!) and atypical presentation.
Going on chemo first - taxol, carboplatin and maybe herceptin (yet to be determined) - then will re evaluate surgical options later. I'm at the Mayo ~ I did first round of consults outside of the Mayo, which was extra scary because they didn't quite know what to do with me, although they tried to mask it well, they gave me grim and sketchy information because they hadn't ever dealt with it -- but as soon as I got to the Mayo, they have been all over it. It was like night and day. PET and other tests came back clear this week *whew*
Jennifer: my onc at Mayo is Dr Northfeld. He's great.

Hi Jennifer (swiftbird)
We are a group that likes to get togethe once a month and just have fun. We do a variety of things. Last time we went painting pottery at As You Wish. In March we are going to just meet and go to lunch. Would love to have you join us. Was side of town do you live in? The group sizes vary. We have had 3 all together and the most we have had is 8. Which Mayo Clinic do you go to. I go to the one in Phx on the 101 off 56th St. I live about 20 min from the hospital and speciality building. Love it there. They treat you very well. Their hospital care is amazing. I see Dr. Casey he is my plastic surgeon. There are two other ladies that go there as well. If you are interesting in joining just pm me and I will send you some information. Wish you best. A journey like this needs support and friends. We are here for you.
Blessings and Hugs, Elizabeth

How did I miss this thread for so long? If there is room for one more, I might be able to tag along. Tempe here..
-
Thanks Sue! I've actually been going down to Tucson for all of my surgeries. I wanted to have a nipple-saving MX and couldn't find an experienced surgeon here in the valley. I ended up going to the Cancer Center down there and my BS was Dr. Michelle Ley. She was wonderful! She is the one who referred me to my PS, Dr. Cheri Ong who I also really like. They had done their residency together and had partnered up for these kinds of MX's before. They made a great team and the procedure was very successful. I will just be so glad to be done!
Hope to meet you all sometime in the future!
-

Kate33 Sedona is a beautiful place. My husband and I considered getting married there. We are starting to see and enjoy other parts of AZ now...mostly up north.

Hello - I would like to join this group, but am unable to attend the meeting on the 19th. Any ideas on when the next meeting will be?
-
Hi aimee4. Welcome to our group. We would love to have you. The next get together would probably be July 24th. Not sure what we are doing yet. Probably something simple. Like meeting for ice cream or just a nice lunch somewhere. I hope you are able to make it. It will be nice to meet you.
