We interrupt all talk of cupcakes for a reminder of the book I'm reading.
Title: The Complete Beck diet for Life. It's by Judith S. Beck, Ph.D. who is a contributing author to Oprah's magazine. She has a very funny take on life, comedy with sarcastic overtones. I've always enjoyed her column.
Her father is the originator of "Cognitive Therapy" (which I didn't realize till reading this book.) So she comes from a very 'behavioral' place when it comes to her suggestions.
I had listened to her previous book/CD series, after checking it out from the library. It is called "The Beck Diet Soution." What I remember from that series, is that you claim a four day segment to make an impact. That you really can 'see' a difference in four days. And that once you make one four day committment & see the results, then you commit to another four days.
The trick is to reward yourself with noncaloric reinforcers for when you make good decisions.
A pair of new earrings when you loose five pounds. A movie for when you choose different groceries at the store..... those sort of things.
Anyhow. I continue to eat sitting down, slower & savoring. I am riding a new, "lowest" number since ELAB began, which as of this morning clocks me in at a total of 10 pounds lost since the new year began. Whooop!!! Whooooooop!!! Whooooooop!!!!!
We'll see if I can maintain that till Fri. LOL.
My hubby came home, so now we'll see. He likes to eat 'real' food. Portion control!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
xx00xx00xx00xx
Oh dearie me. I've started a new page!!
I must have a picture. (An idiosyncracy of mine.)
I took this picture last week, just around the corner from my VERY suburban house.
Just behind a Burger King's service road from a massively busy street.
Anyhow. Look at those little birdies. They are eating smaller portions and getting a lot of exercise every day!!!!
-
Hmmmm ................... I have managed to put on 2.5 pounds since friday!!!! I really hope this is not the beginning of the rebound of my diet, as in yoyo. I just ate so badly over the weekend, I sampled all the danger foods except pizza!!! I couldn't convince my DH to go get me pizza yesterday (he knew I had had chocolate and icecream and biscuits amongst other things). I imagine everything I ate yesterday hasn't even shown up on the scales yet - where oh where is my will power hiding??
Faith - love the pic!!
-
Ainm. The author would say, "Climb back on the wagon RIGHT now." Don't wait until tomorrow or next week. Just get some genuine 'extra' workout/exercise and climb back on your previous committment to yourself with better choices, right away.
Best wishes. We're all in this for the l-o-n-g haul.
Make your U turn right away.

faithandfifty ~ Thanks for the info on that great book you are reading. I will check that out on Amazon.
I will be at my DD's this Thursday, through the holiday, & home next week, Wednesday, so I will not be "at" weigh in on Friday. She has scales, but I don't intend to step on them the entire time I am gone.
I am taking my willpower with me, albeit, I might leave it in the suitcase a time or two. LOL If I fall off the wagon, I hope the wagon doesn't get too far ahead of me that I can't catch up with it. I'm not in too bad a shape though, so it might take me a bit longer, but I'll get back on it with a little help from my friends! I already know of a couple of SINS I will be having, but I will make the portions s...m...a...l...l.
Ainm ~ Forget everything in the past. Start today. Right now. You can do it. As faith said, "Make your U turn right away." Sometimes a bump in the road jolts us UP, but we do come back down & then we continue Forward. (We have done it with this SFBC & we can do it with this!) A big {{hug}} & lots of cheering for you. Keep your eyes on the prize.
-
We worked at a winery this weekend, and I may have had a bit more wine than I should have. I usually won't drink over 4 oz, but when you take a splash now and again, it is hard to tell how much you actually have. I ate lots of fruit yesterday, but only one walk. I need tocheck and see how well I am doing. Need to move more!
-
Okay What is SFBC, the way I have it translated is cracking me up. Is the S stand for Stupid and the F a very naughty word? If so I'm gonna look for a bumber sticker. That is to funny.
I've been so good this week. Had on bite of the banana pancakes I had to make this morning and then ate my egg and tomato juice. It can be hard with the 6 babies here because they can eat just about anything and I have to control myself not to join in with them. Then when I do eat my healthy food they all stare at me like I'm eating cotton candy or something yummy. I shared my Avacado with them the other day, what a waste.
I need more suggestions for "rewards" for eating and exercising. We are going on a big trip soon and that is a goal more than a reward at this point.
Spinach sald for din din tonight and veggie plater for lunch. "come on scale, do your magic!"
-
PauldingMom ~ On the SFBC, you got it right!!!!! Laughter is soooo good for us, you made my day. I'm still laughing!! ;D
I was 146.2 this morning. I'm hoping to drop a few more ounces before my last at home weigh in Thursday morning.
{{hug}}

Pauldingmom and Valjean- SFBC (LMAO!!!!) ya'll are a hoot!!!!!!!!! too funny
I have not been a good girl today I cheated... I ate a sloppy joe on a bun (only one) and about a 2 inch square of a brownie. What can i say a girls gotta cheat sometimes!!! LOL!!! I'm down to 149 lbs so I'm celebrating...

I have probably blown any further weight loss, I had a small handful of peanut M&M's this afternoon. I bought a bag for my DH to have on our 7 hour trip north to our DD's for the holiday-I cut open the bag, looked at them, didn't touch them, poured them into a ziploc bag for easy reach while traveling, & OMG, I took some. They tasted so good, but I felt so darn guilty. How could I have done that?? I fell off the wagon & I haven't even left the house yet....
Renee ~ Another # gone, good for you!! As for the sloppy joe, ya gotta eat something for supper, right? The brownie was.....what?.....just what it was, a delightful bite of goodness!
-
Just spent twenty minutes typing a nice long post and POOF...gone!
I am starting a new weight loss program (sounds much better then the dreaded 'diet' word) on June 1st. Till then I will be making healthy choices but not beating myself over any slip ups. After documenting my starting measurements and weight I am not suppose to weigh myself for the first 8 weeks (hubby will have to hide the scale)...can I just give inches/cm's lost instead?
-
I had a horrid dinner last night - or should I say a yummy dinner last night. Popcorn, Cupcake and an ice cold beer. I don't think that's what a bird eats. This morning I had an egg and 1/2 a banana so much better this morning. I plan on tuna for lunch. Tonight will be a wash too, I'm going to a Sex and the City 2 fund raiser so there will be tasty appetizers and beverages before the midnight showing of the movie. I will get back to ELAB tomorrow! Not looking forward to weigh in on Friday.
Have fun at your DDs this weekend Val.
-
Suzette don't feel bad I was bad last night with the sloppy joe and brownie and then today I went to the doctor and on our way home we stopped at one of our favorite restaurants, "Full Moon Barbecue" and I had a barbecue sandwich. LOL!! So it's back on the wagon for supper tonight. I guess falling off for one meal is better than for the whole day!!!
Gotta run getting ready for American Idol Finale....
-
DS came for dinner and we had Cookie Dough Icecream for dessert! Bad again. And I should wonder why I don't lose weight!
-
I have been sooooooo good since I clambered back on the wagon on Monday - I can't believe I was so disciplined!!! I really hope that when I weigh myself in the morning that I will see some results on the scales (actually I use my Wii Fit Balance Board to weigh myself). I can't weight (lol) to graduate from the overweight section to the ideal weight section. I remember when I went from obese to overweight I was quite pleased with myself!!!! Simple Pleasures!!
Now this weekend could be challenging. First on Saturday morning my DS heads off to the good ole USA and I won't see him until September. Then on Saturday afternoon into Sunday my DD is having an end of term BBQ at our house (well in our garden). About 40 of her uni friends will descend on us with their tents and their food and I would imagine some beer will make an appearance!! Then on Monday my friend is having a small party for her 60th birthday - her husband died suddenly just over 3 months ago so she just would like her family and some friends to keep her company. Then some friends are in Ireland from Viriginia and my DH and I want to meet with them so I guess we will end up going for a meal with them. So I hope I will be careful in my food choices and I hope I will get my exercise in too.
Now I'm going to bed and I will weigh myself when I get up and I hope that we will all do well this week.
-
Fasted this AM due to some blood work and then decided, "what the heck, I made it this far." had a yogurt and lots of water. Of course tonight I am starving but Im making some yellow squash with turkey sausage and spinach. Saw my doc. today and she was thrilled with my weight loss and my blood pressure.
-
Yea Paulding Mom great job. i am still not losing weight but am keeping busy. I rode my bike aaround the "block" 3 miles yesterday I was very proud of myself. WE have been working int he garden every night for an hour or so. some days I do great on my eating and really fail others. i will keep at it, have not lost or gained just the same!! Hope everyone has a great weekend. We are grilling, gardening, bike riding, going to the Farmers Market
-
Morning ladies - hope you all have a very enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend!!
I'm very happy to report in at a fairly respectable 157 lbs - having worked hard to reverse last weekends descent into gluttony!!! I have to say it was a very enjoyable descent but the resulting gain wasn't worth it - I can never understand the ratio between the weight of the goodies you eat and the weight you gain i.e. You eat a fraction of a pound of chocolate (or other sinful craving) and you gain 3 pounds weight ......what???
Well if any of you bump into a handsome Irish young fella over the next few months be kind to him - it may be my son!!!
-
I could sure use that trip to the bathroom Seyla talked about many pages ago. She said you could lose a pound and a half with a trip tot the bathroom. That is just what I need to be back on the losing trend I think. I think if I could get that area of my metabolism straightened out, i could probably lose weight easier. I will weigh in this morning. I will remember!
-
Meece - hopped on scale before going to the rest room...166.8 lbs. Went to the bathroom... 165.6 lbs so Seyla's tip does work
Granted by the end of the day I can weigh as much as 169.8 lbs
Will you update my starting weight 166.8...this will be my last weigh in for 8 weeks while I hide my scale and start a new weight loss program. When I do get to weigh in I would love to see the 'real' results of when I weigh in in July.
-
Good Morning everyone.
Im back home. To my surprise I weighed 158.6 as my arrival with clothes on.
This morning I weigh 158.2. And I ate everything I wanted but walked a lot too.
I think Hawaii must have something in the air. Even bathroom visits were more regular.
Good Luck with your new weight loss program Michelle.
Hugs to you all.
-
It's gonna be a rough weekend to diet. I'm off to the store tonight and I want to make good healthy choices but I can't imagine a BBQ without potato salad and baked beans with lots of molasses.
My weight is the same, but I feel much better. My one year Mammo. yesterday was great!
and my blood pressure was fantastic. Waiting to find out how my blood work turned out. I hope my triglycerites (I have no idea how to spell that) are down. And I had my first hair cut since before chemo. turned out real cute.
-
Congratulations on the good mammo Paulding! I'm having my first haircut post chemo today, she's going to color it too.
I'm the same weight as last week so that's better than gaining but I think I need the restroom trip too. Maybe this weekend I can get that in order.
Ainm, If I run into your good looking Irish son I'll sure be kind to him. Is he going to be in Michigan at all?
-
YIPPPPPPEEEEEEE!
It's Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I started the day weighing in at 143.6.
Down an entire pound since last week.
This drop really came since Wed morning.
As we were traveling the first part of the week, and I have yet to figure out how to eat on the road, without detriment. When we returned home & I saw what damage I had done, by finishing the meals served...... I went walking at our metro park each morning, 4 miles a trip, and also sacrificed my end-of-the-evening treat, each of the last 3 nights.
So I have a new low!!!!!!!!!!!
My goal is to weigh what it says on my driver's license. It says 139 there, which is what I accurately weighed just a couple years back -- after I rode 661 miles on my bike that summer. So I'm within imagining that number could appear again this summer.
Making myself sit at a table for all caloric intakes has been a true eye opener for me.
Congrats to all who are maintaining, or shedding old habits.
A holiday weekend is a genuine challenge, but it's early in the week. Time to reinforce activity, exercise, moving about & other expenditures of calories (having sex is one of my favorites!!)
xx00xx00xx00xx00xx
Ever downward we go, arm-in-arm together!!
-
Hi I am so glad to hear that everyone is doing so well either not gaining or maintaining. I stayed the same this week 149 lbs. :=( But my official weigh in for the clinic I go to won't we till Tuesday so I'm hoping I can stay on the plan for the next 4 days and drop a lb or 2. LOL! I haven't been very great this week.
Good luck little birdies with all the wonderful foods that we will be subjected to this weekend. I on the other hand will just be sitting at home doing nothing but lazing around the house.
Renee
-
Well, I did weigh this morning. 163.6 down a bit from last week. And not in the upper 160s so I guess I can be happy at that. I am trying very hard to be good. It will pay off. I know it will.
-
When you say, "Eat Like a Bird," you mean every five minutes like a hummingbird, right?
I knew I could find a way to fit in here!!! Have a great weekend BirdWomen!
-
congrads! Faithandfifty
Stick with it Meece
Good Luck on you clinic weigh in Renee
Today my middle child came home for a visit and she asked me what size I was. I said guess and she said............6 Honestly the child has no idea! When I told her a 14 she was like "What??" They are getting loss but a 12 looks silly tight.
Did two miles this AM with DH and then got on the treadmill and did another 15 minutes. Hope it will pay off.
-
Lisa (pauldingmom) that is so great! Keep it up!!! you will get there... I have absolutely got to get back up on my horse and do better, but it is so hard with the holiday. LOL!!! And I hate walking on the treadmill ... yuck!!
Renee
-
The treadmill is my last resort. Walking outside is so much better. We have a couple nice parks nearby and our neighborhood is pretty safe. I take my big dog with DH doesn't join me. Lots of rain in our forecast as I'm sure is in your's too Renee. Gotta get out in the morning before the pop up thunderstorms kick in.
I'm babysitting my son's puppy this weekend so this A.M. we will be taking both dogs on a walk. Should be interesting to say the least.
-
Oh Lisa, have fun walking the puppy! We have 3 inside dogs that have to be walked on a leash because of where we live. I definitely understand. By the way didn't you love the rain this morning? Or should I say thunderstorms? Only in the south... LOL!
