Pregnant with Breast Cancer or got BC 12 months after pregnancy?
I was wondering if anyone was pregnant when diagnosed or within 12 months of diagnosis got pregnant. Did your doctor give you a worse prognosis because of the pregnancy. Everything I read is so conflicting. I found my pump right after a miscarriage. The doctor told me it was nothing. I then got pregnant 3 months later. 3 months after that I was finally correctly diagnosed.

Yes, I was 8 weeks pregnant when I found my lump -seemed to appear overnight. Had a miscarriage at 10 weeks into the pregnancy.

I have friend who was diagnosed with BC 15 years ago during the last month of her pregnancy. She had surgery, chemo, and radiation after her delivery. 15 years ago they weren't doing Her2, but she said she later found out she was Her2+. She also did 5 years of Tamoxifen. She has had no recurrence.

Yes....my neighbor found her lump while she was nursing the baby.....the doctors just felt it was a clogged milk duct......she pushed since her family had a history of ovarian cancer....and got a biopsy....yep cancer....
She is 10 years out and doing fine!

I would also add:
I know they say a small cancer has been growing for at least seven years before it is found.....Since mine was huge....8cm .... I assume I had the cancer in me when I was pregnant with my last two children and just didn't know it.....

Jen-Just wondering why you think that "prognosis" would be lower? What have you read that is conflicting? Have you read that woman who who are diagnosed with bc just before, during or after delivery of a baby have a lower prognosis?

Jackeline-Thanks:)
knowledgeofpower-great story-thank you:)
Franie-There are studies that go both way. One just came out in May that scared me a bit.
I don't know how to interpret it. Here it is

On the other hand there are studies that show pregnancy protects against reoccurence, and another one that says the outcomes are the same. So just a lot of conflicting info but scary for me nonethe less. Since you misscarried and the pregnancy didn't continue this wouldn't apply to you at all so please don't worry.
There is also this study that actually says pregnancy protects against reoccurence.

I have a friend who was diagnosed when her baby was 3 months old. She had a mast, then cobalt treatments (the type of rads given then).
The "baby" is now 32. And she's doing fine.
She had 2 more children, one 5 years after treatment, and another 5 years after that.

I was diagnosed when I was nursing my 7 month old daughter. I had been misdiagnosed for 6 weeks despite multiple appointments/scans. I referred myself to a breast surgeon against the advice of my OBGYN and was diagnosed with a core biopsy immediately. Unfortunately, this is very common with IBC.

Well since I found my lump on my girl's first birhday (we just celebrated her 2nd birthday a few weekends ago:) and was 5 weeks pregnant with my boy when diagnosed, I guess I fit into both categories, so hoping that article is not true. I don't think anyone has the answer yet, Pure. That is why there is so much conflicting evidence:/

I actually had surgery for an unrelated disease (Crohn's) in the fall and had a full MRI done. They were able to go back to that MRI and determined that I did not have BC in October (my tumor is 9x9cm diagnosed a month ago today) so I'm not sure about the whole 7 years before you find it thing. As I'm ER-/PR- and HER2+ I'm hoping that I still have a chance at a future pregnancy! We were unable to get eggs frozen as the tumor was so aggressive, I had to start chemo as soon as possible and it wasn't worth waiting three weeks to have them harvested. I get lupron shots every month in an attempt to protect my ovaries. If it doesn't happen for us, my husband and I are still blessed with a son who will turn 2 in a week! Good luck ladies!
