edited June 2014 in Stage III Breast Cancer

Just wondering if anyone else is seeing a noticeable appearance difference in the breast that they had their lumpectomy on. I am almost 6 mos out from radiation therapy. That breast keeps getting larger, the opposite side from the lumpectomy scar has a noticeable hard ridge. The skin seems alot thicker and shows the pores alot more. Somehow I am worried that something else is wrong. I just had a mammo in Jan that was normal. Does anyone else have noticeable changes?

Is your breast hot, swollen or have any kind of rash or discoloration on it?  When do you see your oncologist again?  Be sure to mention all of this to him.

It is not hot but it is alot bigger. No rash either. The lumpectomy scar is about at 2 o'clock. The underneath side of the breast is where the pores are so big it looks like dots. It is thicker there but the opposite side from the lumpectomy  is very thick with a ridge. I go back to my oncologist in June. I hate to call before that if this is just normal. Not sure what is normal after radiation. Thanks for responding

I just noticed that you were diagnosed with IBC after IDC. That is what I am concerned about. Can you tell me your symptoms. Thanks

The last thing I would be worried about is that I was worried over nothing and hating to bother the doc ! We all need to be proactive in our health ..especially after a BC dx. Please call your onc office and tell them what you have told us and get in there asap....that is what they are there for.....June is quite a ways away...

i am 8 years out and my treated breast is much bigger then my other breast. however; if i was you i would continue to moniter and talk with your surgeon and oncologist.  i have had good follow up with breast MRI's to moniter . my oncologist continues to moniter it every 6  months.

i agree with Texgirl.. I'd certainly check it out soon.. I can't imagine an onc. being put out.   That;s what they are there for.  Best of luck.

rad onc might be another person to contact as he/she would know what is normal or worrisome, but as the others have said, get it checked out....for peace of mind.

kandy..I didn't see your post, before I wrote mine (skin looks wierd). My breast is the same it also has a ridge, not near the lumpectomy and large pores,(like the skin of an orange.)I just went to surgeon and had a mammo everything fine, but to me that doesn't make much difference, because I had mammos every year for 22 years, and nothing showed in my breast only enlarged lymph nodes, and so further testing went on.I see the onc. Tues.

I also thought your post sounded like mine. It sure sounds like our symptoms are similar. I am going to call the first of the week. Let me know what your oncologist says. Best of luck to you

    Dear Kandy and Amig 1-

The orange peel appearance can be associated with Inflammatory Breast Cancer.  A punch biopsy of the skin can detect that.  Kandy, did your doctor discuss that with you?

Good luck and let us know what the doctor says!

    Hope M.

OK so I had my onco appt.she looked at the skin on my breast and felt the ridge, all on the underside of my breast. She called the rad onco.and wanted me to get an US.This can be done all in the same building.Well the rad.onco. said it had edema in the bottom of the breast, because of gravity the fluid flows down,As she was examining me it was painful. She wants me to wear a more uplifting bra.Now my boobs are a DD,I do wear supporting bras, maybe I have to clip them to my earlobes!!! Also the U?S came out fine, although they tell me no fluid, just all this from rads.and it could get worse, she told me sometimes within the first 2 years it could get worse.

Anyway thank goodness everything was fine.Let us know how you made out Kandy! Also my breast did get smaller, even though the underside is swollen.I guess all the rads cooked it good.
