But, posting here is going to help us to overcome.  I think this is the first step, admitting we are weak.  We stay here for awhile and then we move on to better choices.  Anyone joining me?

Well on Saturday night at the car cruise I had the cheeseburger, 1/2 order of onion rings and a Chocolate/PB shake. I did well on Sunday, so hopefully it evened out. I'm not going to weigh until about Wednesday. I agree with you Marybe on weighing everyday. You don't get any surprises then. I like weighing about about twice a week. I usually have pickles with my sandwich at lunch, but now I made coleslaw. You only had 1 t. sugar, 1 T. vinegar and I used 1/2 c low fat miracle whip, instead of the mayo. Miracle whip has a lot less calories. Its o.k. Really crunchy and only about 10 calories.  Well just checking in. I'm starved and it is just about time for me to leave for lunch.

Hi, guys!  I am continuing my "3 small meals" which has been helping tremendously with the "obsession" part...I dont think about food all day.  I am a bit discouraged that I only lost 1/2 lb last week, and so far, this week is not showing anything (I have till Friday tho!), but I am really trying to focus on the better eating, like patoo says!, and just being normal...3 small meals...3 small meals...3 small meals.

    We will get this right!

Cheeseburger sounds great!  I had a vegetable burger tonight....not soy since I am trying to avoid that....and it was very good.  I had a slice of that 1 point cheese (which really isn't cheese at all), lettuce, tomato, pickles and mustard on one of those Sanswich Thins buns. Low cal, but almost a good as the real thing.  The woman I work with made spinach dip with that Knorr veggie soup mix, spinach, Lowfat mayo and no fat sour cream and it was really good.  It helps to have carrot & celery sticks, a harboiled egg,  or pretzels or something to snack on.....this guy I knew who used to be a trainer would always say, You have to keep the machine fueled.  He advocated 6 small meals and protein had to be included in each one. Patoo is right....we need to look at this as a lifestyle change of better choices , not a diet.

Marybe: Try Arnolds Sandwich Thins. They have some soy and flax seed, but it is way at the end.

KK,  That's what they are, Arnold's Sandwich thins.  I already knew they had some soy in them, but as the onco at MDAnderson told me, it's really difficult to avoid altogether so I just stay away from pure soy like the edamame, roasted soy nuts, soy burgers, etc.  Don't seem to be able to avoid it altogether now that I am eating healthy.....supposed I could just stick to pure foods like veggies, fruit, meat, fish and poultry, but I like a little variety.  Thanks for looking out for me, Jo.   Since I am always figuring out points now, I do end up reading the ingredients of the packages and cans.  It's even in my popcorn....soy lecithin, but it's the very last ingredient so I am not going to worry about it.

I lost .6 of a lb tonight at weigh in    Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it.....obviously I have not changed my mind set to eating healthy and thinking of it as my new way of life, since I still feel deprived.  But then I think If I am eating like this and really staying about the same, what would be happening if I ate the way I used to when I was on chemo searching for something that tasted good or something I could even get any taste out of?!!?  I never ate a lot of fast food, but when I was doing chemo, the drive thru was my best friend.   Popeye's chicken po'boys, Rally's fries, Steak and Shake malts, Wendy's double stacks and Frosties.....oh, and pizza.  I think that is the one thing I really miss the most....pizza,,,,real pizza....not those WW things on an english muffin or the Lean Cuisine french bread pizza.  If the pizza delivery guy were to show up right now for sure I would not tell him he had the wrong address     Don't feel guilty, Cake.  We can't be perfect all the time....a week has seven days so if you only went off the wagon with the cookies one day, you are still ahead of the game.  I had a Dove chocolate egg on Sunday and it was worth every calorie.

JO-5-I have to ask about this. Is this popcorn popper not like the big bulky poppers? You put loose corn into this popper and then into the microwave? That is better for you then regular microwaver popcorn. Let me know if that is right?

Catherine,  WW isn't going too great for me because I am on Megace right now and the main SE of it is weight gain.....in fact it is used for people who need to gain weight, but in my case they are hoping it will shrink my tumors.  I guess this actually used to a treatment for BC before they came out with tamoxifen, but so many women objected to the weight gain, they quit using it.  I joined WW the day I started the med because the onco scared me when he said he had patients who had gained as much as 30 lbs on it.  After my lst week of WW. I lost 4.6 lbs, then I think one pound and them maybe 1/2 lb....then it started going up...one week three pounds.   But then two weeks ago I lost 3.2 and was absolutely amazed.  Right now I am down a total of 5.2 from when I started....but maybe not since I always wear my shoes at the lst weigh in and take them off every time after that.  LOL!!    But I think WW is a great program because it actually allows you to eat everything, you just have to count it, and it's a sensible program and it works.  I keep tellling myself, think of how much I would be gaining if I was not at least trying to lose.   If this medicine works, I don't care if I gain 20 lbs (well, I do, but you know what I mean)....if I have bad scans in a few weeks, I will be pissed.  But I plan on staying with the program....got my neighbor to go with me when I started....it's been three months now and she's lost 16 lbs....would lose more, but she can't give up her alcohol.  Have you tried those Vitalicious vitatops or the muffins....they are delicious and only 1 point.  A bit pricey, but you can get them for less at Mejier and I borrowed a friends Costco card and am going there on Friday because she said they have them there.  They are much better than the WW sweet snacks and much larger.

Jo.....I have a bunch of Bed, Bath and Beyond Coupons and am going to go check out the popcorn popper.   THey will wonder what is going on....a run on microwave popcorn poppers.  I love the white popcorn....also I like it burned just a little bit.

Great News Cake!!  I am still hovering around 10 - 12 lbs gone since you started this thread in October (10 this week Embarassed).  I have NOT been able to lose anything since I went on a Cruise in February (although I should probably try harder I guess!).  I have been able to keep the excercise pretty constant, so now will add the food watching too!    Congrats on your weight loss!

JO,  It may just be as he says, more scar tissue or necrosis.  It is just too bad that you have to worry about it until you have the biopsy.  I always find fear of the unknown to be the worst thing about cancer.  I am always imagining the worst and even if I get bad news, it is better when I find out and know what I am dealing with.  It is good that you have a doctor who stays on top of  things and investigates, rather than waits until you have a BIG problem. I will be saying my prayers for you.

Where are you in OH?  I might just drive over and join you on the pizza....pizza is the one thing I really miss. Not even gourmet pizza, but Donatos.  I never knew it, but I am also a  stress eater....if I am worried about something, I tend to just grab anything I can find and start shoving it in my mouth.  Anyway, if it makes you feel better, eat.  You at least know you can take it off later.

    Roseann-

Congratulations on your weight loss and your commitment to exercise.  I ride that recumbent bike for an hour each day as a way of treating myself to my newly acquired bad habit = TV watching!

In any case, we are both in New Haven County and I am wondering if perhaps we can keep in touch relative to your experience with the local docs in the Yale community etc.. I was just diagnosed with low grade ductal carcinoma, nuclear grade 1/3 suspicious for invasive carcinoma.  I am ER+/PR+ and I don't know what the "HER" acronym stands for!

In any case, I tried to send a private message but the "To" field did not allow me to populate so I thought perhaps I would just respond on this board.

I look forward to hearing from you-
    Liz

Well, Roseann, I gained the 3.2 lbs you lost.  Got weighed tonight at WW and the woman looked at me and said did you eat a lot of things you shouldn't this week and I shook my head no, and she said well, that medicine of yours must be at fault and all I could say was, Yes, but I feel really good.  And I do and I am thankful for that, but still I find it very frustrating that I gain weight when I am really trying to lose.  I just cannot imagine how much I would weigh if I was eating like I did two years ago ( am saying that long ago because when I was doing chemo I couldn't taste and ate bizarre things)...would stop to get a bag of doughnuts to take in to work to go with our coffee, would always eat the flavor of the month ice cream at UDF,  would go to White Castle whenever I had a craving for them, stocked up on Dove and my favorite candy after a holiday has passed and it was on sale, would go for something fastfood at lunch, ate pizza at least twice a week.....How did I do that and not gain 100 lbs?!?!?  I know I am supposed to be learning healthy eating as a lifestyle change, but all I can think is Will I ever have a scoop of coconut ice cream this summer?

Congratulations to both you Cake and Roseann.  Liz, is the HER you are referring to the Her2Nu gene?  I don't know a lot about that, but if that is what you are talking about know you can be treated with herceptin if it is positive.

How are you doing, JO?  Still awaiting results?

I talked to my med onc today he says that most woman my age on tamox gain 20 lbs on average. Also  told me that the chemo also slows down the metabolism. So that explains why it is so hard for many of us to drop weight.Since I did not gain any weight and lost a bit means I must be on the right path.

So how is everyone doing?  I gained weight while on tamoxifen, but think it was the fact it put me into menopause more than the drug itself.  I did take it off later, but now find that the older I get, the more difficult it is for me to take off weight.  Now I am almost hoping they take me off megace because for the last two days I have been eating like I am going off of it, anticipating that WW will really work once I am off the medication......however at the same time I want to stay on Megace since other than being extremely hungry I have no SEs at all and am really worried about what my next treatment might be.  SO it's a catch 22 and I now know for sure that I am a stress eater because the scan results have me very stressed.  the only saving factor is that I don't have many bad things to eat in the house so I have been pigging out on WW ice cream novelties, popcorn and fiber bars and put real butter on my baked potato tonight.

    Hi All,

I gained 10 lbs during the first 6 months after starting Arimidex.  My oncologist said that's to be expected.  However I don't accept that since I was already 20 lbs overweight to begin with and was expected to stay on Arimidex for at least 5 years. I checked the internet and only 9% of women on Arimidex have that side effect.  I started writing down what I was eating and exercising and have lost 7lbs in 5 weeks.  That is my normal pattern in weight loss so I guess it was not the Arimidex.  I'm relieved but losing weight is still hard work at 59 years old.  My goal is to lose a total of 35 lbs at 5 lbs a month.  So by Sept. I should be back to my pre-menopause weight.

Hello, all!  My scale hasnt budged for a month...but I have lost 30 lbs since dx (20 since start of this thread), so that's good.  Except I have 50 more to go!

JO--I plan to gain at least 4 lbs when I go on vacation in October (Disney)...woo hoo!

    How is everyone else doing?

I was so glad to see some new posts here....thought maybe everyone had given up.  I have lost 2.4 lbs since I went off the megace and am still going to WW.  Now I am doing navelbine so will see what that one does to me.....I don't care about the lbs IF it works, but the megace didn't do me any good at all.  I am  having bone pain again for the first time since I started treatment back in 98.  So why am I worrying about weight....well, I would rather concentrate on that than think of what might be going on with my bones.   Tonight I had my lst piece of pizza since I started WW back in Jan....only one piece so I was proud of myself, but I did have feta and pine nuts on my salad and it was HUGE.

I figure when you are on  vacation, you should be on vacation from watching calories so go for it and enjoy!  Sorry I have no tips for LDL.
