Baby it's cold outside

You can complete it, Suzette. You just had a little bump in your path. Hope you "weathered" the stroms alright.
Yesterday was absolutely gorgeous, it could not have been more perfect. We had an outdoor meeting in town and excepts at certain times in the shade, I was comfortable without a sweater. The temps were around 70. Blue skies and fair weather.
Yesterday afternoon, when we got home, the wind started gusting. We are supposed to have rain blow in sometime tonight, but I was worried it was coming in early. It didn'. Thankfully the wind waited until we were finished with the meeting.
-
Thanks Meece, the support means so much to me. Glad the rain held off until after your meeting. Sounds like it was a perfect day.
We have cooled down a bit but yesterday got warmer and we hit 70 and today we're supposed to be in the low 60s. I'm about to walk in a memorial 5k run on a beautiful golf course here in mid Michigan. It's 52 now but I'm hoping it reaches 60 by 2pm when the race starts. Perfect walking/running weather.
I haven't walked 3 miles in over two years and have never done an official 5K so am looking forward to doing this one in preparation for the Susan Komen walk in Lansing on April 25th, I'm the team captain and it wouldn't look too good if the captain couldn't complete the walk!!
I hope everyone has a lovely, peaceful Sunday.
-
Yesterday and today were so beautiful. In the 80's. Played golf yesterday and worked in the yard today. Pool is so nice. Tomorrow I fly to Vegas. High there will be 61 and lows @ 47. I will freeze:)
-
I've only been to Vegas in the summer, and always think of it as very, very warm. I forget it gets so chilly there! Today was breezy and cloudy, with sprinkles at times, sun at times. When the sun was out it was warm and lovely, then it would go behind a cloud and be chilly again. I guess the wind has blown spring out to sea.
-
The wind has found its way here. It is howling and blowing something awful. Of all weather conditions, I think I dislike wind the most. It can be so damaging here. I hope the storm comes in soon so the wind will stop.
-
I haven't reported lately. Friday we had some heavy rains and my porch didn't leak!!!! Saturday and Sunday the weather was perfect, today is more of the same, highs in the upper 60's to mid 70's with bright sunshine.
More home renovations, Sunday I went by Lowes Hardware to pick up ant baits and saw that the ceiling fans I have been looking at were on sale for $69 dollars. I didn't have room in my car to put 3 ceiling fans so I thought I would get my son later this week to take me in his truck and get them. After I got home he asked what sort of noise did the other fans make before they quit, his started making a funny noise when he turned it on. Yup, same noise, now I was going to need 4 instead of 3. He looked online to see the ones I was talking about only to find out that the sale was going off Sunday. We quickly jumped in his truck and picked up the fans. I saved $40 by hitting the sale, unfortunately in my rush I forgot I had a $25 discount coupon for purchases over $300, and I picked up a few other things. I have a friend who will take down the old fans and install the new ones for a very reasonable price.

The rain started around 9:00 last night and we got 28/100. It is good that there has been a break so the ground could dry out before this storm. I am glad I decided not to water the garden yesterday.
-
Oh I forgot Suzette, you will love the Komen for the cure if it like the one we have here at the NC foothills affiliate. Our race is in October, I have participated in it since 2001 and been the team captain every year. We do have a 1 mile walk in addition to the 5K run. My best time for walking the 5K is 52 minutes and that was last year when I walked with my son and he pushed me.
Sheila
-
It turned out to be a beautiful day for a 5K yesterday. 64 and sunny at race (or for me, walk) time. We're supposed to be sunny and mid 60s today, 48 and rain tomorrow and then the warmth returns again. I can handle an occasional cold day when the majority are warm and sunny
Sheila, 52 minutes is great! My friend and I did it the memorial 5k together and it was on a very hilly golf course. I'm sore today and frankly it kicked my butt, I couldn't get to work until 9 this morning (usually I start at 7:30 - thank God for an understanding boss and co-workers). I am looking forward to the Komen 5k in two weeks, it will be in the city of Lansing in the area around the State Capitol, not many hills and it sounds like it will be a very fun event.
-
Suzette, you have to remember that I am in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mtns it is a very hilly course. Our course is in Hickory and starts and finishes at Lenoir Rhyne University. The ones who run the race finish in about 20 minutes. I do feel good about my 52 minute 5 K. my goal is always to finish in less than an hour
. I have a course I have calculated on my neighborhood streets around 2 blocks long and 1 block wide that is 85% hills, I know one lap is 1 mile, if I get too tired I can cut out at the 1/2 mile point and head home. I had been walking to one end of the street and back but it is 1/2 mile long and if I was too tired, I still had 1/2 mile to walk to get back home. I need to start walking it again now that the weather is accommodating.
-
50 degrees, cloudy with breaks of sun, breezy. In a word, chilly. I want it to be warm enough to sit in the sun on the back deck when I get home from work!
-
Today we're supposed to be in the low 80s. I wore my summer sleeveless dress and sandles because Michigan State University refuses to turn on the air until May 1st and my office has a window that doesn't open so a couple of weeks ago when it was in the 80s, my office got into the 90s. I don't mean this as a complaint about the weather because I LOVE warm weather. However, MSU (and I bleed green - lived on this campus when I was born) only gives us heat from Oct. 1st to April 30th and Air conditioning from May 1st to September 30th. So, the heck with us if it's cold after May 1st or warm before then!!!
Ok, I feel better, that's my BIT%* for today. Thank you.
-
Suzette, I feel for you, my office is on the same line as the air conditioner for the computer room. it stays on year round to keep the servers cool. I have both a fan and a heater in my office to help regulate the temp.
today it is bright and sunny temps in the upper 70's to low 80's. I am getting a repair person out to my house today to fix my washer that went out Tuesday.
Sheila
-
Sheila,
The bad thing is the older we get the harder it is to moderate our own temps let alone if it's difficult to moderate the environmental temp!
Sorry your washer went out - hope it got repaired ok.
-
Suzette, the fan was for my hot flashes and the heater was for my cold flashes
not necessarily to regulate the room temp. There were times during the winter I had the heater on my feet and the fan on my head. My washer was about 10 yrs old, the repair person said the motor seized up and it was going to cost close to $200 to replace it not counting his service charge and who knows what else would go bad on it, no guarantee how long it would last. I paid him his service charge and said I was going to get an new one. I went to Lowes last night and got a 3.5 cu.ft. Maytag washer and it will be delivered this afternoon and haul off the old washer. Good thing I received my state tax refund last week.
This morning we had temp in the low 50's expecting highs in the upper 70's again today with a chance of afternoon pop-up showers.

My SIL said she sleeps with a little fan by her bed and when she wakes up with hot flashes/night sweats she just turns it on, it blows at her and she feels better. I think I'll have to get one too. The two of you have given me such good ideas (BTW, her name is Sheila too!) to help regulate my body.
Yesterday it was in the low 80's, today we started out at 64 and we're supposed to drop through the afternoon and evening and tomorrow we'll be hard pressed to get out of the 40s. Oh well, at least no "s" word is in the forcast.
I'm going to walk the survivor lap at my nephew's relay for life event tonight, will be my first time doing anything like that. Hope I'm not too emotional or anything (I HATE crying in public). Hope the weather holds too.
-
My fan is a small personal fan, wire cage (like the large floor air circulator fans) that stands about 5 1/2 inches tall with one speed. I have it set on a shelf next to my desk and it is angled to blow in the area of my head. Sometimes just the slight movement of air across the face can help relieve the hot flashes/flushes. I bought mine in October 2006 at summer clearance at WallyWorld for $2.00 and boy have I gotten my money's worth out of that little fan. The doctor started me taking tamox then and I was anticipating the hot flashes. Now I am not taking the tamox any more but gone into natural menopause.
You will do fine at the Relay for Life event, even if you do cry, you won't be the only one. I tear up even thinking about walking in Relay for Life or Race for the Cure. I don't cry full blown but keep tissues handy to catch the swells in my eyes.
-
Uh oh, forgot that I should probably have tissue handy. I'll put some in my pocket right now! I'll go find a fan at wallyworld even if I have to pay full price - don't think I'll make it through the summer without it so it will be worth it.
Boy Sheila, you're saving me! My "chemo brain" has gotten worse with time and not better and it's really bad now - don't know what I'd do without you. Thanks
-
Wow Shelia, you have kept Lowes in business. Isn't God good that the funds you needed were at hand? We sleep with an oscilating fan on us all year round. In the winter, it is mostly for the sound we are used to. I've had more fluctuating flashes lately with femara.
It is cold on this plane right now. I'm headed home to Tampa. Never really got warm in Las Vegas, at least not for me. Plan to have a nice warm weekend in Florida.
I admire you ladies for walking. I hope to do the "short" walk in Race for the Cure later in the year.
-
Suzette, If I had to pay full price for that little fan, I would have. It was just the end of the season when I bought it in anticipation of the SE's from Tamox.
Mary, I sure have, I spent 300 on Sunday and another 425 last night. I even used a $25 coupon last night that I forgot to take with me on Sunday. My husband made the comment that I was spending all his pay check before he had a chance to see any of it. While I was waiting for the salesman to check that the computer was right about the qty of 1 washer in stock I was checking out my next purchase, a new stove
. The stove was in the house when I bought it in 1990 and I don't know exactly how old it is but it has seen better days. I am going to keep going with it until I can afford a new one.
-
I hear you Shelia. I have an 8 year old Kenmore refrigerator. We will need a new one at some point, but my hubby just keeps fixing it when it breaks. Have only 9 more payments on a 5 year old car, but it is in good shape and we plan to keep it awhile.
Got home to a nice warm Florida. Watching my Tampa Bay Rays play the Red Sox in Boston where it is 41 degrees. I'm sure they are freezing.
-
It's snowing in Maine this morning. And cold. And gray. YUCK!!!!!!!
-
Sheila, enjoy your Lowes purchases
NM, The "S" word - can't take it anymore. We dropped in temp from the low 80s on Thurs, to the low 60s yesterday morning, 50 with a horrid wind (felt like it was in the 20s) last night and then the 30s today. No snow but it's bitter cold with the wind.
I did the Relay for Life survivor lap last night and then my DS#2 (who is on one of the teams) and DH walked the survivor/caregiver lap with me. I think my poor DH was crying more than me - Poor guy has been so worried about me and took such good care of me. My kids did too. I am so very lucky to have this terrific family. I just loved all of the energy of the college kids - they did a great job with the relay for life. DS#2's team bought stuff to make tie dyed shirts (of course it was the girls on the team who put this together - LOL), sold them for $10 each and there was a line up to buy them. If they sold all of the shirts that was $1,800 they were donating. I drew such energy from those kids.
Sorry for going on so long. It was nice to get that out and written and to have you all understand.
-
I had to catch up on reading the posts...Sheila, I can relate to the cold office, but we are not allowed to have heaters or fans at our desks. There are several menopausal women in th eoffice so the average temp is around 66 degrees. I keep a fleece blanket under my desk to put across my lap. And I have fingerless gloves o help keep my hands warm.
All my appliances are as new as the house, which will be four next month. I think I have some time before I need to start replacing them, although the dishwasher and microwave were probably bottom of the line Kenmore, because they aren't working up to par. Wish we had the choice to put better stuff in when we built the house. THAT is another story.
I went to the survivors reception Thursday. Our Relay is May 1st. Congratulations on your 1 year cancerversary, Suz.
-
Suzette, your story brought tears to my eyes. I hd DS 2 and DS 3 here today along with the little ones. I asked them if they would walk the 5K with me in October during the Race for the Cure. They are very excited to do so. Your story was so heart warming.
Been in the 80's today and rained a bit this afternoon. Had the little ones come over and swim. They loved the pool. It was a blessed day.
-
Mary, 80s sounds so heavenly and so fun to be with the grandkids. It's so nice to have the luxury of living close to them (we have that luxury also). I'm so glad they're going to walk with you in October. Family can be challenging at times but they can bring such blessed joy. I'm thankful.
-
Thanks Suzette. As some of you may know, my DH and I put these two youngers sons through alcohol/drug rehab -Josh will have 5 years of sobriety in July and Jeremiah has 7 months. The rehab center was here in Tampa and they both chose to stay in this area. We went from being the world's worst parents (blamed us for everything) to having them over every weekend. Jim and I have had to grow accustomed to being with family so much. My grands are really surrogate. Josh's girlfriends children. We love them just like they were our own. Yesterday, I played in the pool with both of them for hours. Because of wonderful Femara, this morning I could hardly walk with pain in my hips and knees. It is ok. The price for a beautiful time to bond better with the little ones was very worth it. My youngest started massage therapy school last week. His clothes are rags he acquired while out drinking/drugging. Today I'm taking him shopping to start over. It is so wonderful to get to know him in a much better way.
Today it is raining bucketfuls. We really need it. High will be in the 70's. Rain again tomorrow. I'm happy to be indoors for awhile.
-
I am glad your Prodigal sons have returned home. And, I am glad you are enjoying the family time.
-
Our local relay-for-life is coming up sometime in June. Previous years our local support group sold chicken sandwiches at the Relay along with the hospital booth that sold popcorn, nacho chips and drinks. I don't know if we are planning anything this year or not. Tonight is our support meeting, we may be discussing what we will do this year. My mom and I walk the survivor lap together as well as the caregiver lap.
We haven't had any rain for 2 weeks, not bad considering in March it rained at least one big rain every week, sometime 2-3 days of rain. Today is clear but cooler I don't think they are calling for rain any time soon, we are in high fire danger levels, we really need the rain.
Sheila
-
Mary, surrogate grands are wonderful. Our best friends just lost the surrogate grandmother their children had last week, it was very hard on them because she had been in the kids lives most of their lives and their biological grandparents live across the country so she filled a void in their lives.
Hope you get some rain soon Sheila.
We're supposed to be in the low 60s today and we have gorgeous sun. Figures, now that the work week begins we have lovely outside weather.
