    Thank you soooo much for this thread. I've been taking supplements since last Nov and have been wondering if I'm taking them at the right time and under the right conditions. This is all becoming so much clearer, I can't thank you enough for laying this all out for us. I know natural thyroid is not a supplement per se, but would you know if it matters when  you take it. I started out taking it in the morning and then switched to the evening because I was taking so many pills in the am....do you think I'm doing any harm by taking it at night? Strangely enough, I finally lost 3 lbs all since the switch from am to pm...does that make sense? Also, I started taking my EFA again (4750mg) in the morning with some orange juice - is this OK??

    CrunchyPoodleMama: Interesting list of supplements you compiled and when to take them, I have one for you.  I am soon looking into taking a supplement called 'Biotin', and am most interested as to when to take this one?  Any info you can provide me with would be most appreciated.

    Charmaine, I'm not sure - have you tried searching the forums for it yet? I am headed to bed (it's after midnight here) but if you or someone else find the answer I'll add it to the original post!

    Just an interesting little FYI... I no longer take a zillion supplements. The only two I take EVERY day are iodine (Iodoral) and D3. Everything else I try to consume from whole foods. If I haven't eaten a curry in a couple of days, I'll take curcumin, or or I will occasionally take maitake or CoQ10 or whatever else I haven't been getting in my diet, but I'm not obsessing over it the way I was when I was first diagnosed.

    Hello Julia:  If I find anything on the net of how Biotin should be taken will post it in here.  I just now did a surf on the net re Biotin and have yet not been able to find anything.  I am purchasing it for help with my hair growth.

    Thank you, Nan. But what a pity that the Modified Citrus Pectin cost $99! (I bought a bottle, anyway, but I think 1 bottle is for 3 months. After that, I guess I have to buy more Undecided)

    EDITED TO ADD:

    ............Or perhaps one can achieve the same results by simply chewing on lemon/clementine rind on a regular basis? Apparently, modified citrus pectin is contained in lemon rind, so.....

    Hello Ladies,

    this afternoon I was at my local Health store, and I was speaking to the sales clerk there about my having cancer and going thru chemo and radiatherapy.  This lady told me that they often throughout the year have people with cancer coming into their store.

    This sales clerk recommended to me what is called:-

    FLOR-ESSENCE CLEANSING

    Have any of you ladies heard of this cleansing?  Apparently it is a 25 day cleansing.

    Now on to the subject of Biotin, I went into the health store and exchanged my bottle of 300mcg for 1000, the sales clerk there told me that starting at 1000mcg is okay -

    Oh and she told me that it is a good recommendation when being on Biotin that one also get themselves taking B Complex Vitamins as well.  (this could prevent possible side-effects and other problems with Biotin down the road).

    FIRST OFF THANK YOU FOR THE BUMPS, TIPS, PUSHES, LINKS, ALL OF IT!  The info that you share is PRICELESS.

    Yazmin, re modified citrus pectin:  no.  chewing on rind or whole citrus will not do the same thing.  MCP is designed to be absorbed into the blood stream.  Regular pectin by passes absorption like fibre and is not absorbed into the blood stream.

    Any type of FREE amino acid, like GLUTAMINE, NAC, CARNOSINE, CARNITINE, ETC. must be taken in isolation as they will compete for uptake in the body.  Choose your amino acid ladies, cuz we don't have enough empty time.  Or try rotating them in and out.  You cannot get these effects from whole foods.

    Alpha Lipoic Acid and Resveratrol can be taken with food!  In fact, some argue that food may facilitate the good work these do.  Ideally, they should be taken on empty, but, if not possible, it's okay.

    ADD K2!  150 MICROGRAMS, NOT MILLIGRAMS PER DAY.   Especially if you are doing mega D3. It will protect your arteries from calcium buildup that can occur with high doses of D3.  The calcium can be leached from your bones, which D3 tends to do, so just because you aren't taking calcium doesn't mean you are not at risk for calcium accumulation in the arteries.

    Mushrooms, Mycellia, or Immpower are probably more potent or effective than IP-6.  Or at least rotate them.  

    Iron will not necessarilly help with anemia.  Iron makes the hemoglobin cells nice and large, but anemia means you don't have enough of them.  I have adequate iron, but am chronically anemic.  

    Multi vitamins are usually made with crappy ingredients and include iron and copper. Not a good thing.

    Maddy, your protocol is interesting, but I wonder if we can contrive a more workable schedule for you. There must be a better way to arrange your sups and meals.....

    Oh, one more thing.  If you have a tendency to mood swings, avoid SAM e for the short term.  It will affect your brain chems slightly, and even can cause some intestinal issues.  NAC will help do the same thing--in fact it helps the body build it's own SAM e.

    Doing a cleanse has to be managed correctly.  You can actually cause more toxins to be released and recirculated if you do it incorrectly or if you do not have good Phase 2 detoxing ability.  50% of all people, me included, do not have a gene that helps with detoxing through the liver.  We still have adequate detox abilty but it is sub optimal, so any cleansing fast has to include adequate amounts of protein so the liver can attach the toxins to it and flush it out.  

    Make sure you educate yourself before doing this and don't make the mistake that so many people make by assuming detoxing is like cleaning out a clogged up piece of machinery.  It doesn't quite work that way and you don't want to create more issues.

    I take most of my supplements with a meal (3x a day) but the following list, I was told by Osteopath to take on empty stomach. If this looks wrong would someone tell me! :)

    Empty stomach (2 hours after a meal, take pills, wait 1 hour) You are right vivre, HARD TO DO.

    MsBliss: When you speak of D3, are you speaking of Vitamin D in general?  I purchased a bottle of and it says on the bottle just Vitamin D.  (you mention to take K2, is this just for the D3?)

    Charmaine,

    Take D3 only....that is what is sold over the counter only.  Do not take prescription D, which is D2, a cheaper to manufacture, poorly absorbed version of D.

    K2 should be taken to protect your arteries from excess calcium buildup which can result from taking high doses (above 5000iu) of D3.  I developed hip pain on high D, started the K2 and the pain in my hip and knee vanished.  I take 100mcg of K2 twice a day.

    K is also protective for us bc girls.  But take K2, not K1.

    I pretty much stopped taking calcium, except for using up the last of my bottle.  I take high dose D3, but routinely take K2.  My Integrative onc recommends the K2 but is against sup calcium.

    I have checked on the Alpha Lipoic Acid and ES....so far the concensus is to take with food, also with a little bit of biotin.  Combining carnitine with alpha lipoic acid is not a clear recommendation because amino acids need to be taken in isolation so I'm looking for clarity on this one.  Anyone have any thoughts on this?
