Linda that was great! Send it to Readers Digest!
Molly, illegal welfare - too RIGHT!!
I can't even lurk on that thread as I almost got killed near the beginning for some of my posts. Do they not realize a "system" (oh, let's say...welfare) is in place because people NEED it????? Doi!
-
Layne, so glad you made the point about all the outrage and lectures about "personal responsibility" being directed at the poor, and not at those whose moral failings and irresponsibility have cost us all so much and ruined so many lives. In my work, I've seen employers large and small run their companies into the ground, whether by stealing outright (diverting company proceeds for personal use or funneling them to related parties) or by making incredibly boneheaded decisions. Workers, retirees and taxpayers end up paying. And paying. And paying.
And some folks are worried about someone on Medicaid dressing just a little too nicely?? Come on!

Heehee -- I'll remember to never wear my Prada shoes in public again, only fondle them lovingly in a dark room at home, reminiscing about the good ol' days.
-
Konakat, this is too funny - when I clicked on this thread, all I saw was your post (not my earlier one). So lacking context, I thought this had turned into a shoe fetish discussion!
Now, get back to stroking those Prada shoes . . .

The other thing some of those folks don't seem to understand is how to create a civil society...not just the posts and things....but being able to walk down the street without worrying about being robbed .... I am not a socialist at all but I do believe that the quality of a society is about how the most vulnerable are treated. People have to have hope. If hope is taken away from them, then crime rates go up. Our elderly, our young, our sick ..... I do think it's important because not everyone is fortunate enough to do everything for themselves. If we provide a quality education for all, health care for all ... these go a long way to giving people hope. There are those who live in "generational poverty" and don't know the "hidden rules" of mainstream society and there are those who live in situational poverty either from misfortune or illness and their situations are temporary if society provides the support to recover. ...sorry about the rant....but I worry that there are some (both in the US and Canada) who just don't get the fact that they do gain direct benefit when the greater good is considered.
-
Helen, I agree. There seems to be a lack of understanding/acceptance amongst some that the philosophy of "the greater good" benefits every segment of society. And it's no less true north of the border.....
To all our American posters who sought refuge on this thread: I'm so sorry you have been taken to task for participating on a thread where you have found common ground. I hope you'll continue to contribute to our discussions, and I hope you are all enjoying this lovely, long, WARM and SUNNY weekend!
And now I'm going to bare my arms, don the sunglasses and go for a nice long walk!
-
Helen and Linda ~ Agree totally with both of you. I'm not a socialist either and vote for the Conservatives most often, but I do believe that our society is the sum of all our parts. Access to health care and education for all are key components that make for a thriving society.
And yes, unfortunately judgemental opinions exist north of the border. I've worked in social services for 23 years now and I've seen the generational/situational poverty and the struggle that many face. For the sake of keeping the peace, I have to bite my tongue at social events or in the neighborhood when I hear people talk in disparaging terms about 'those' people. I'm careful to choose the right times to speak my mind and try to correct misconceptions.
On a lighter note, CAN YOU BELIEVE THIS WEATHER??? I just got back last week from a holiday in Jamaica, and it feels almost as warm here in Ottawa. Love it!!
-
Here in T.O. it is positively tropical. What amazing weather!!! No excuse not to go for a walk today and exercise seems to be a prescription we all get for fighting this awful disease.
-
Yeah, spent an entire day @ High Park.
-
I took my dog for a nice walk today, while my 10-year-old daughter rode along on her scooter. We even stopped at the Hasty Market for a Popsicle. Hubby managed to hit a few balls at the driving range. What a gorgeous day...it doesn't get much better than this!
-
Looks like another grand day. We unwrapped our boat yesterday, had a picnic with the kids at the marina, then went to a friends for an outdoor easter egg hunt - and the chocolate eggs had started to melt! When has that ever happened before. Mother nature is making up for not giving us a summer last year!! I'll take it now.
-
It is suppose to be a very dry spring. Our apple trees will not like that. We have had two crappy years in a row. Would be nice to get some 'normal' weather conditions.
However, it is a lovely weekend indeed. Great for the human beings!

Happy Easter Everyone,
I am from SK so and at the beginning of my journey. Had a lumpectomy Mar 17th and will begin radiation once completely healed. I have not been an insurance/coverage buff in the past, part of this learning curve with bc but found your discussions very interesting. I have been so fortunate to have had the lump found and within 2 months surgery, apppts with cancer clinic, so much support from everyone I am counting my blessings. Not even sure what my plans are as I've yet to meet with the oncologist and my surgeon. Waiting for my path report and praying that it is all doable and wait time is minimum. Chemo is also waiting but I am not sure what type or how long yet.
Just never realized the discrepancy between the provinces. Most of my family lives in SK and AB. I have one nephew in Waterloo but he is in university so only a temp resident. He is presently living in Toronto for the co-op part of his program. He loves it there!
Glad to reconnect with all of you again. I had lost this thread with 'cancer brain' when I first got on this site I was having trouble finding everything and staying organized.
Take care!

It's been beautiful out! Looks like rain starting on Tuesday for your apples PIP. My friends in the Boston area would love to give you some rain -- my g/f had 5 feet of water in her basement! She's been battling the flood for almost 3 weeks now. Doesn't help she lives along a river with low banks. She did get some sandbags the other day from some cute emergency workers -- a little too late to help though... FEMA's visiting her house today to see how they can help.
Gotta run -- heading to Beantown!
-
Drive carefully! Have a blast! And name her after me!
-
Hi Artsymom - nice to hear from you on this thread. If you do end up doing chemo, there are also of different thread about chemo where you'll be able to connect with others going through it in the same timeframe. You will never be alone. Take care!

Happy Easter Everyone. Just hid the last of the eggs and chocolate while my DH took the kids and the dog for a walk. Should be a fun hunt. Last year it was inside because it was too wet/cold/snowy outside. This year the exact opposite. We would love some rain too. Lets hope the forecast is correct.
Enjoy the long weekend ladies.
-
Hi Sugar77~ Thanks for the welcome. I will definitely follow the chemo thread too. I need to get on the abbrev thread and learn the lingo but putting it off for a bit for some reason. Had a wonderful Easter even if it wasn't the usual foofurah but we were all together and that was the main thing.
rinna40 ~I didn't get the eggs hidden yesterday, my kids are 12 and 15 so was taken with tongue and cheek but since they are home this week I may just do it on a random day this week. Could be good for a laugh!
Have a great Monday everyone!

Pathology report was good and clear! All gone, clear margins, nothing has spread. Thank God!
-
Artsymom -- Wonderful news! Whew!!!!
-
Thanks lindasa! It is a relief even though I had told myself it didn't matter one way or the other and it wasn't going to change where I was, it did. Whew!!!! is right!
How are you?
-
Just got back after a couple of busy days in Toronto -- the highlight of which was meeting and lunching with 8 other super bc.org women for the first time! Woo Hoo! (pix posted on the GTA lunch thread here).
I remember getting my path report -- I made the surgeon read it out loud to me twice, just to make sure! Didn't much like the Grade 3 status, but sure appreciated the "no lympho/vascular invasion" part.... So I decided to focus on the good stuff, and take it one step at a time.
And that's what you are going to do
!
Hugs from Linda
-
Thanks Linda! The relief is quite amazing, even helps with the aches and pains. I used to think it was cancer everywhere now I just think it is recovery and keep moving!
Glad you had the best luncheon ever. Will definitely check out the pics!
Off to the Cancer Clinic today for orientation. I hear it is an amazing place so I'm expecting great things!
Hugs right back to you!
Enjoy the day!
-
Linda, looks like you may have had the last word on 'the other' thread. And it was a good one!!
-
Thanks PiP! I always do like to have the last word
! Just said to myself -- hey, enough is enough already.......
-
Well shoot...tell me what you said, Linda. I didn't see it!
-
Now I am going to have to check out the other thread just to see your post, Linda.
-
Finally, that thread was deleted. About time.
-
Okay, what did I miss?
Come on, Linda, what was the secret to killing that awful thread?
Whoo hoo!!!
Leave it to a Canadian to bring down American insanity.
