suzette another wish and prayer for a boringly normal mammo.

We had some storms last night, fortunately for me the worst storms were South and East of me although my parents and sister were driving through part of the storms. There was a tornado in Rowan County that damaged stores in a strip shopping center. The weather guessers are calling for unsettled atmosphere today and possible rain this afternoon, roof is questionable today. I had the estimate given to me on March 3rd. With the Spring weather being unsettled it has been hard to get anything scheduled although I am holding the truck as hostage until they get the roof done. Laughing

Thank you so much for the well wishes and prayers for the boringly normal mammo.  I'll be glad to get it over with - stomach is in knots (as I'm sure all of you can relate to).

Our weather guessers have sun all week (thankfully no storms/tornados although tis the season) and 50 today, 60 tomorrow, 70 wed and 77 thurs.  LOL.  Typical Michigan - it will be great if it actually happens.

Wow, I am gone for a few days, and I had more than a page to catch up on.  Spent my spare moments last week preparing for my Dad's 80th birthday.  The party went off well on Saturday evening,  Yesterday was church then lunch with my parents, brother and SIL, then off to Home Depot for gardening supplies and home to garden in 82 degree heat.  I planted a zuchini plant I had started off in the green house, worked the compost, and cleaned in the greenhouse,  I am pretty stiff this morning.  We have another busy week coming up.  with the heat startign to get serious I will be double checking that my auto watering is up and running.

Guessers predict rain on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  We'll see. I was just getting ready to clean my rain guages and put them away.

Meece, who puts rain gauges away in the spring/summer this is when we get the most rain!  The roofing company did come by this morning by 9:00 am and started on the roof. Fortunately I work less than 1 mile from my house and when they needed access to an electerical outlet (about 10), I was able to run home, plug my power cord in the back porch outlet, run it out under the storm door and be back at work in less than 15 minutes Laughing. When I got home I wondered how they got that big truck in the front yard Undecided, the way it looked like they went is narrow between the house and the brick wall next to the drive and would have been a tight fit to get it backed through. It didn't look like they tried driving around the house due to uneven ground on the backside of the house. My mom called me right before lunch and said she needed a ride from the garage back to her house during lunch so I didn't make it home to see how the work was progressing Frown. It has been cloudy all day and the rainy weather had held off or gone around us.

Well, it may be up to 48 degrees, but it's come with driving rain and serious wind.  The power was out here for almost 2 hours this afternoon, just came back on a little bit ago.  I was NOT happy--put a chicken in the oven, 30 minutes later the power goes out-yeesh!   Got the hurricane lanterns lit and going to leave them on for  while just in case, and definately going to get out the battery travel alarm clock since I have to get up at 4 am tomorrow!  I do not trust the power to stay on all night.  As long as it stays on long enough to cook the chicken. . .

Sheila, so glad they could begin your roof.  What a relief - I hope they finish the roof soon.

NM, Hope you can get the Chicken done.  I remember last year at Thanksgiving when most of us had just purchased our Thanksgiving food the electricity went out for 24 hours.  No apparant reason!  Thankfully most of us had generators for our fridges and could save the food.  It's amazing how much we depend on electricity.

Meece, I hope when it isn't raining it is usually sunny and not terribly cloudy.  Sun is so beautiful and wonderful!  I hope your dad had a wonderful birthday.  Happy birthday to him.

We ended up with a high of 46, the sun finally came out around 4:30 so it warmed from 39 to 46.  We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Well, I get the pleasure of a stereotactic biopsy of the left breast tomorrow (the remaining one).  Doc isn't too worried thank goodness - thinks they're benign calcifications but they thought my BC on the right was benign too.  Hard to believe cancer could live through all the dose dense poison I had last summer but ya never know.  Makes me question not having a bilat. mx.

    Have a great evening everyone.

Suzette, they started about 9:00 am, called me about 11:00 am, when taking off the old roof, they noticed that the chimney was not stable. She wanted to know if the chimney was used at all, which it isn't - we have a monitor heater that is vented directly outside, not through the chimney. They pulled the top of the chimney off and sheathed over the hole. They found a couple of places that had some water damage and replaced that part of the sheathing as well. They had the roof completly on by 3:00 pm. The truck was moved around the back of the house not the side I thought they went on, plenty of work to do to repair the compacted areas in the yard from the truck tires.

On keeping food outside the fridge, when I went to Ohio last month for my grandmothers funeral, my Aunt had lots of food brought in and her fridge was packed, we put part of the food in a cooler on her back step and kept the food cool there, the cooler was locked to keep the squirrels out.

Good luck tomorrow on your biopsy, I went through 3 in 26 months - two pre-cancer ADH, last DCIS - I decided after the last one for the bilat mast.

Oh good, I misunderstood, so glad the roof is done.  Not so glad about the yard though, sounds like a mess and a fair amount of work to get it fixed.

I think if this biopsy shows anything precancerous or cancerous I'll have the left one removed.  I'm so upset about this and just can't get the logical part of my mind to calm my emotional part down!!  Think I'd best take a xanax and go to bed.  I wish I wasn't so high strung about this and didn't have to take meds to calm down in order to sleep..

Beautiful Full Moon rising in the East this evening.  My DD tried to get a picture with her super duper camera but her lense angle is to wide (or something like that).  It sure was beautiful though.

I'm not too worried about my yard, it wasn't the perfect yard to start with. We still had some divots in the yard left when we had a large oak tree removed about 6 yrs ago as well as the stump. We basically just keep the grass mowed, no fertilizer or anything special.

My dad's concept of a good yard is if it is green and it grows leave it alone! His yard is full of wild violets which some people consider a weed but I think it is beautiful. Actually since my husband started driving truck and my dx of breast cancer we pay a friend who has a mowing service to mow the yard. I have a 6 ft tall bank (about 60-80 degree slope) across the front of the property- too steep to mow, when I moved in it was overrun by wild roses, the city came by 5 yrs ago and scraped off the overgrown roses while trying to clear the ditch line. Since then I have been trying to get some other kind of ground cover to grow without much success. My front yard is in full shade from 3 large trees (2 pin oak and one maple) and the grass barely grows under the trees. But the back yard is totally different, it gets alot more sun and the grass is a beautiful green and grows twice as fast as the front yard. My yard definately won't get the 'Yard of the week' sign but I will not be a slave to my yard.

Sheila--I just got a gardening newsletter that talked about plants for slopes!  Here's one that does well in shade:

     "Chenault coralberry
Chenault coralberry smothers weeds and eliminates erosion.

Like stephanandra, chenault coralberry (Symphoricarpos X chenaultii ‘Hancock', Zones 4-7) is an undemanding workhorse. No visitor will say "wow"; however, you will likely say it quietly to yourself. This 2-foot-tall shrub spreads about 10 feet without causing any trouble. It does an excellent job of covering ground and smothering weeds while eliminating erosion. In late summer, small pink flowers appear and are followed by rosy red fruit.

Chenault coralberry is adaptable to full sun or shade and is easy to grow. It can prosper in a range of soils. This shrub can be kept under control with pruners if it spreads too far, and rooted stems can easily be chopped off and dug up for your slope-plagued friends."

Sheila, I like your Dad's philosophy.  Thanks for the suggestion NM.  We also have a steep slope in the front of the property so maybe I'll try planting those.  The other option is orange tiger day lilies.  We have about 5 acres of weeds or hay - whatever - and we mow the other 5.  With the warm weather coming starting tomorrow, DH may have to mow this weekend.  Was 58 today and supposed to be 70 tomorrow.  I'm thrilled.

Hi Shelia, NM and Suzette.  Well, here in Florida we have had a lawn service for several years now as my DH had a heart attack @ 49 years old.  We also have a tremendous slope in the back and with the heat and rain and grass growing faster than we can keep up with, we perfer to let someone else do it.  This past weekend, we cleaned up the yard from everything that got bitten by the cold and it was alot.  Oak trees are raining pollen on us, too.  Hope it is warming up for you guys.  We had rain on Sunday and Monday--about 3 inches  Got a bit cool after that, but we expect it to warm up for the rest of the week.  I have the pool heated to 78 degrees.  Once it reaches about 83, I'll get in:)

Suzette, hope all went well with you, I've thought of you today.

Thanks so much Mary.  It was painful (of course) but the dr. kept giving me as much lidocaine as I needed for comfort - took his time - he got a very good sample that included several of the calcifications.  I should know results on Thursday or Friday.  DH went with me and held my hand throughout.  The dr. began his career as an engineer (before med school) and DH is an engineer so they bonded and the doc showed DH the equipment, x-rays, areas of calcification, etc.  Made me and DH feel much more comfortable during the procedure.  This biopsy today was almost a year to the day of my last biopsy (march 31, 2009).  I'm kind of sick of the de ja vue.

Anyway, sorry to go on so but thanks for listening.  Hope your pool gets warm enough this weekend to swim.  I love to swim and will live vicariously through you!!

Suzette, I'm so happy your DH could be with you.  During my biopsy (Oct 2008), I made them stop and go get my DH.  It really hurt and I was so scared.  Makes the DH's feel so much better to bond with the docs.  My prayers are with you and good news this week.

    Good Night.

Suzette, I had my first stero biopsy Feb 13, 2005, my last one Mar 25, 2007. My first one was done with no valium, the last 2, I had valium to help keep me calm as well as my sense of humor. The 2nd one I said that I had already been there, done that, got the T-shirt that said Race for the Cure. For the last one I asked when Bill Murray was going to come in the door like groundhog day. It has been 2 yrs since I heard the words, you have breast cancer. Thinking good thoughts for your results.

Thanks so much Sheila for sharing.  The first one I had done was in 2004 (benign) and was an awful experience.  I had an ultrasound guided needle biopsy for my diagnosis last year which wasn't as awful as the first one (actually the biopsy was exactly a year ago today - I think I already mentioned that).  This Stereotactic biopsy yesterday was a much better experience than 6 years ago - also a different dr. (also helped that I took 3 xanax). Thanks for the good thoughts, I should have results by tomorrow or Friday.

In mid-mich we're at 52 degrees headed for a high of 70!  The sun is shining.  I think I'll be doing a little yard work this weekend.

Suzette--just had a biopsy done on March 17th ( my birthday of all days ) as they saw something suspicious on the US...not the mammogram. Found out the next day that all was well so thankfully I did not have to stress for too long. Wishing you B-9 results too. Good luck!

    Hugs to you,

Thanks so much Pat and Meece.  So glad your results came back benign Pat. I'm feeling very strange regarding results, can't even think of a word to describe it.  If it's negative I'll be so happy and if it's positive I already have the plan in my head and am totally calm about it.  Very strange.

I can't believe Mid Michigan is warmer than Florida!  We're at 72 degrees, reached a high of 75 and tomorrow is supposed to be 80.  It's so lovely here today.

I was exactly where you are now.....happy if B9 but was formulating what I would do if this was not the case.

    Again, best wishes and hugs,

I must not have been on this site for a few days.  Lots happening here.  In a way its kinda nice to learn someone was having a test, it was b-9 and everything is right with the world.  Then I can let my breath out.

Its in the 70s this week but still chilly in the morning.  I love that kind of weather.  My sister talked about plantings, includinga hydranga bush.  Last year my other sister gave me a potted one which I watered faithfully until we could get someone in the plant it for us.  She remarked that this time we were not going to let it die.  It died because she didn't water it - I was hospitalized!

hmm - I think that is quite a plan.  I always say hope for the best and prepare for the worse.

    Have a good evening everyone.

Suzette, I was also calm about my decision for bilat. I had thought about it since my 2nd abnormal biopsy and about 2 weeks before my mammogram, my mom called me at work at 4:10 and said I was coming to her house for supper that night and to watch the late showing of Oprah. I didn't pick up that channel with my antenna. She didn't tell me what was on Oprah that day but she wanted me to see it. Renee Syler from CBS morning show was on Oprah talking about her decision for bilat because of family history (father) and multiple biopsies for ADH. Seeing that show helped me see the option for preventative surgery. Unfortunately my next mammo was abnormal (again) and I told my surgeon to take these 'Ticking Time Boobs off'. I was calm about the decision until the night before surgery and I broke down on the phone with my hubby while he was trying to get home for my surgery the next day.

I will get off my soapbox now and report the weather, beautiful today, morning temp 34 afternoon temp 70's and sunny all day. Tomorrow cool in the morning temps back in the 70's and more sun.

    Sheila
