Finally checking back in!  Work's been kooky - like Spring's! heehee

I've mixed things up a little.  Went for a bike ride on Monday (don't get me started on how sore my thighs were! YIKES) and did some yoga and stretching.  Then stopped by the library yesterday (Brenda, wasn't that you who does that?) and picked up 8 dvd's.  Tried a cardio dance routine, cause you know I love to dance.  This chick was crazy!  She looked like a body builder, what a rockin body and she has really good rhythmn as does her posse!  haha  I felt like an idiot trying to figure out what she was doing!  But, I hung in there and was sweating and I feel it!

I'm getting my first hair cut since shaving my head in Sept. '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Going with my DD to her salon...There go the curls that are on my ends!!

Diane, my SIL loves her shape ups.  She's had 4 surgeries on her ankles and they are the only shoes her doc approves of!!  I want to get some.  Walking the strip, now there's some mileage!!

enjoy life, ditto what Deanna said, anything we can do? hugs

Deanna, glad your back is feeling better.  That long car ride wasn't too fun for the back.  9 1/2 hours!  UGH!  Good luck in L.A.

Spring, ahhhhhh  the gym machines, i know what you mean!!  its a good hurt.

ok girlies, have a fun rest of your day.  Try to laugh some, laugh at yourself if you have to!!

    HI all,

Hope everyone is doing well. No exercise for me lately, been too busy, I know terrible excuse. Now, I can't exercise until after my blood work Friday- no exercising 3 days prior to my blood work. We leave Sat so will get lots of exercise playing in the waves and walking.

So got the news last night on MIL, she is stage 2, better than I thought, her nodes were clear. But, isn't there always a but, she is triple negative. So back to the research boards to put that all in perspective.

Anyway, happy exercising to all. All the best to those with back issues and other ailments. Kari can't wait to see your new doo! Diane, I have a pair of the cheaper knock off shape ups for work, love them!

    Have a great day all.

I am in the midst of helping to plan a very large track meet.  My daughter's school has 1300 athletes showing up in the next two days.  So that being said, I did not walk, run, or anything of the like, I stocked the refreshment stand.  My arms are sore.

Looks like life is challenging us all a little more than usual, given the relatively low amount of posting on this topic. I don't think I've been able to post for about 5 days. Thankfully, during that time I have missed only one day of movement/workout, as a result of fatigue after a long workday. Tonight I will still try to make the 15 minute rule, and I will be proud of myself if I make it!

Just haven't felt well the last 2 days, it allowed the to do list to get in the way.  It is challenging when we get busy.  I know when I have to comply to a fixed schedule or someone else's schedule it is very very hard.  If I have a day when I can control my schedule exercise always happens.   I think I'm going to have to go back to the 10 min rule on my not in my control days, so that I don't get out of the habit.

Been reading but no time to post. I have been exercising and trying to get some yard work done that I should have done last year. Raked the whole yard and got rid of the leaves and the nasty vines. And on Thursday mowed. I think this yard got bigger over winter! I also went to my dermatalogist and had four sun cancer spots removed. Been so busy that I slept 9 and 1/2 hours the other night. Must have worn myself out. Still going to the center and exercising 3 times a week. Enjoying the beautiful weather but it is suppose to drop today but warm back up on Sunday. Working days this weekend.

Ainm- thought of you especially on the 17th. My mother's maiden name was McCullough so I have some Irish in me.

Kari - my soon to be ex MIL lives in Portland too. Went out there several years ago.

Harley - I am in the Reach for Recovery too. We don't get very many referral though. Any suggestions on how we can get info out there about us?

Shout outs to everyone else- have a great weekend and keep moving. I think we are all trying to enjoy the sun and warm weather that we haven't seen in months. Prayers for Meg.

    Joy,

I was told that my co-ordinator/trainer was calling the dr. offices and meeting with them, giving them the RTR brochures, and explaining how the program works, to try to get them on board.  She said that they are always so excited about it, but then.... no one has really been coming through with the referrals.

Also, I'm finding that the drs. that DO refer patients to RTR aren't really screening the patients very well...   for instance, ONE patient was 89, and her DIL was taking care of her.  When I called, she told me that her MIL had Alzheimers and wouldn't remember anything.   It's very frustrating to me.

I have started calling around to different drs. offices in my area, and meeting with the  nurses.  I give them the brochures and explain RTR.  So far, I have only been to one office in my area.  The reason is that the drs. offices are a bit further away, and most are in Myrtle Beach.  I thought that my co-ordinator had been to these drs., so I didn't want to overlap.

However, I just spoke to the ACS manager in the Myrtle Beach office, where I volunteer, and she told me that it would be ok to call them, and maybe it would spark renewed interest.  So, maybe I'll get started again.  She was SUPPOSED to give me a list of participating drs., but she has trouble following up.  She was also supposed to give me more brochures, but I will end up having to go down there, and pick them up from the office.  That is what I did back in November or December, to get the brochures that I have now.

How long have you been doing RTR?  I find that it is very rewarding, to meet with newly dx'd women, and give them HOPE.

    Hugs,

    Harley

Did something for the first time today.  The center I was working out in was hot and humid.  I couldn't take it and took off the sweatshirt leaving me with just my running top on and sure showing the lymphedema sleeve.  I swear I felt naked.  To me it is really obvious which side is reconstructed, it bounces different and just looks different. That lymphedema sleeve felt like it was blinking red neon instead of beige. Then thought heck with it.  Best work out I was having in days and I needed and wanted a good one and it was freakin hot and humid.  Decided that if anyone was paying enough attention to notice it was their problem and not mine.  Had a great work out.  Hope its not as hot and humid in there tomorrow though.

    Kari - Lookin' good!!!

Diane - You've done your exercise - weight lifting!!!

Joy - Good to see you!!  You have been really busy in the yard, no wonder you haven't had time to post!!

Kmmd - most people are too preoccupied with their own appearance when they are working out to pay any attention to you - we are all quite self conscious really. I'm glad that you made yourself as comfortable as possible - this exercise lark is hard enough without having to melt while doing it!!!

Harley - I salute you!!! Any run no matter how long or short is fantastic - I can't imagine ever being able to run!!

Big Hello to the rest of you ladies and Pk best wishes to your MIL.  I must take myself and this nasty head cold I have to bed!!!

Ainm, that's what I told myself too.  Plus, truthfully, I'm many years past when anyone would be "looking".  So, once you hit my age I figure the only thing people are paying attention to is comparing speed of the treadmill or something.  Did screw with my head a bit for a few minutes though.  Stupid headlines in the news didn't help today.  Figure everyone's saying, she must be in that 1/3 who wasn't exercising enough.  Huh, I excercised a ton before surgery and chemo, its post breast cancer thats been hard to deal with.

Hello everyone.  It's been a while since I've been on this thread, but I gotta say I need some encouragement!  I had my exchange and symmetry operation 9 days ago.  I am so ready to exercise, but the body is saying no.  I tried some stretches and my body revolted so much so I thought I screwed up my incision on the "more symmetrical" side.  Now cause of no exercise, I realized I am still eating the same amount and the weight is creeping upwards!  What do you suggest? I find it very hard to cut out the ghiradelli(sp) chocolates.  I need motivation to stop!

    Jess,

Can you get some walking in.  Outside, mall, treadmill?  That will be easier on the chest while things heal.  As for the chocolate, my accupuncturist told me to put what you crave (for me its salty not sweet) for realistic portion sizes into baggies.  If you can, put things up on a higher shelf or in the freezer.  When you get the cravings put the baggy out on the counter.  If you want it in 5 minutes let yourself eat it.  If you don't still want it put it back.  I've noticed the strangest thing since chemo.  I noticed going through I lost my normal thirst mechanism.  I kind of attributed it to how much we were always forcing ourselves to drink tons of water.  But I've found a few times lately that I can get dehydrated and never get thirsty.  Things are out of whack.  Sometimes when I think I'm hungry I'm really thirsty and drinking water takes away the cravings and hunger pains.  That drinking water trick never worked for me before but it sure does now.

    Kari, love the hair!

Kmmd-good for you for taking that step and taking off the sweatshirt. Unfortunately people can sometimes be so dense, that even if they did see the sleeve, they probably wouldn't know what it was for anyway!

    Joy-good to see you again!

Jess- I agree with Kmmd, just get out and walk especially if you can get outside. It is a threefold benefit, exercise, fresh air and if you are walking, you aren't eating!

Big hi to all others too, Deanna, Spring, Diane, Aimn, Allie and all else I missed. Spring break is here upon us, and my plan is to get lots of fresh air and exercise (yup still mild exercise, tried doing my P90X and got the muscle pain back)

    So Aloha everyone!

Penny, ALOHA!  Have a FABULOSO TRIP!!!  I hope you have an absolute exquisite visit!

Hi everyone else!!  Jess, just a little something each day.  Sway to a song while brushing your teeth - its a start!!

Did a fat blast dvd from Jillian Michaels (Biggest Loser trainer) after work yesterday!  OMG, that kicked my heiny/bum!!!!! I was sweating like a pig and breathing like one too!  THEN, after dinner DH put on a dance mix cd and went in the backyard and danced our butts off, so 2 hours of cardio!  My back is killing me!  and my bum is sore and other areas are sore!  Man...I haven't done that kind of exercise in a VERY long time, and don't think I could manage that on a regular basis!  wow

lots of love and hugs to all you cuties!!

Kari, I must admit, I smiled right back at ya when I saw your smiling face with that great new hairstyle! You look fantabulous!

kmmd, It's great to hear from you; I've been wondering whether work has been kicking your butt again. I had a tough workweek myself. I was so tired last evening that I didn't even think about exercise. However, I did walk today for about 35 minutes, and I will work out again tomorrow. Ragrding your comment about others possibly thinking you got breast ca because you didn't exercise enough: many people will think whatever they can to pinpoint a particular reason that someone got cancer because it promotes the illusion of control. Yes, we can all do something to contribute to our well-being & health, but ultimately many of us can/will do all that is possible for us to do and still get cancer. Grrrrrr...........

Jess, I agree with kmmd: can you focus on walking as you heal? While I am still dealing with an upper body pain issue, I am focusing on workouts that minimize the impact on that part of my body while keeping me moving otherwise. Let us know how you do.

pk, Have a great trip! And keep taking good care of yourself.

Joy, Keep up the great work in caring for yourself! It's good to hear from you again.

And to Diane, Ainm, Spring, Harley, Deanna, & others whose names my brain is finding hard to remember, &, well, everybody else I mentioned above,  I hope your Saturday and Sunday will find you moving, dancing, hopping, pogo-ing or whatever makes your heart and muscles pump a little bit harder.

Doesn't Kari look like 15 or something! Cripes! what a youngster! That cut is adorable Kari.

I am keeping my hair really short, isn't that funny? You'd think after being bald, I would want long hair. But I am really liking it pixie length! Everyone comments on how cute it is. I just keep chopping it off! My husband can't believe it! ha!

We are off on Spring Break in Hilton Head. No exercise yesterday, -- it was half a day of work, then pack leave, drive here, unpack. 1230AM before I got to bed!

HOWEVER! Even though it was chilly and windy today, and my bike needed repair, we pushed through and were able to bike for 1 hour this evening! Yay! It will rain tomorrow, but then should warm up!

I sure wish I remembered my ear warmers and some gloves! ha!

Thanks for the advice.  I did walk around our land and thought I could behave and avoid picking up the bits and pieces of trash that always seems to find its way to us and couldn't stop bending over to pick up the trash, but I have to say the stretching felt very nice.  I found a plastic knife about two acres back from the road.  I also found a huge patch of basil starting up behind our house.  Gotta say the walking a other activity felt good.  I concentrated on standing up straight and breathing.    I realized how hunched over I have been.

Spring--I hope you have a great break! By the way, I am keeping my hair very short as well; perhaps I am deluded in thinking that it makes me look fresher and younger. I got it cut again this past Saturday--really short; my husband is surprised but very supportive.

Jess--Oh, yeah, I remember that hunched over feeling. I also realized that at times, whether worried or in pain, I would hold my breath or breathe too shallow. Remember to breathe!

Diane--You are a real walker! I think I was able to manage about a mile or a little over a mile. Actually my energy and endurance would allow more, but my knees are the obstacle. Ah, well, I am thankful that I can walk and get outdoors!

I find that doing things in smaller bunches is easier to get motivated than jumping in full on. I'm not a gym person and I can't get motivated to go to the gym. Instead I walk the dog or ride my bike while twoing my daughter up to the park to play on the playground. During the summer, I'll get out to the pool at least 4 times a week and swim with my daughter. As far a dieting, I try to shop on the perimeter and avoid the soft drink and snack aisles.

Welcome Vega!  How old is your daughter?

For those on vacation, I hope you are having a TERRIFIC time!!  For those of us at work or home...hope you are finding time to exercise, breathe and stay motivated!!  I'm so sore, been doing more dvd's, have to take them back to the library today, got up at dark thirty (haven't done that in awhile Brenda!) and did a hill program on the treadmill and some stretches before work.  I have acupuncture on my lunch hour and then chiropractor tomorrow, so no exercising later or tomorrow.  Gearing up for Cancun next week and my older DD's wedding on 4/10!  Can't believe its drawing nearer!!!  so excited!!!!!!!

Thanks for the kind words regarding my hair!!  15...haha!!!  NOT!

    love you girlies!
