Thank you for posting the update; knowing the friend you have in Pat I can only imagine how sad it was for you to have to share this with us. I'm sure many others would agree, you are the best. I send lots of love Pat's way, in hope that she is aware how much joy she, and her daughter, have brought to these boards by way of this journey. Hugs for both of you!

Posted on the other thread:
I'm just off the phone with Saint. We had a lovely, long conversation -- getting caught up on all sorts of stories that are underway with our children.
She said that she is to speak to the onc about the patch. They make her feel soooo drugged. Yes, Mazy, She is on the one's you mentioned.
I read back the posts on the Stage IV thread and that took a very long time, as it's been quite a while that I had the computer available, when she was able to listen.
We laughed about the birthday card shower that continues to shower and shower and shower. I think we should all send a second round, just to make her keep laughing.
If anyone still wants to send one & needs the address, just PM me and let me know.
After the long time it took to read back thru the Stage IV posts, she was suddenly very exhausted and didn't want me to post her direct thoughts at that moment, as she was afraid she'd sound drunk.
It was great to have glimmers of our 'saint' sprinkled throughout the conversation!!!

Dear Saint,
Just a good nighjt Sunday check in. As we travel this Lenten Season I feel those of us who have felt the pain of cancer get a glimmer of what Jesus was suffering. Thanks to him we get the same reward. Praying for you, Santa Saint. Praying that the docs can get a handle on the pain meds. The patches come in varying intensities. They were the only thing that helped me.Thank you so much for sharing your family with us. Rest well.
Thank you Faith. You are a faithful friend to Saint and to us.
Blessings,
Sedosa

I'm over at DD1's so she can take WB to pediatrician for ear infection-inspection.
Their computer won't let me cut & paste a post.
I have just put up on Saint's thread in the Stage IV area, that I called her late this morning and that she answered. We ended up having a significant, though challenging conversation.
She is in a great deal of pain. The pain patches make her 'crazy' and so she'd decided to discontinue their use today -- so she was miserable with pain.
Yesterday she spent the day getting a transfusion, but it has not yet given her the "lift" that she often receives following one.
We spent much of the conversation speaking about our friendship and what we have meant to one another. We were each in tears at various points. Then we took deep breathes and attempted to shift to upbeat memories to brighten our collective mood in this difficult chapter.
It's very difficult to know just how much Saint would want me to share 'publicly' and so I will just conclude by imploring you to include her in your prayers.

Faith, as always your post demonstrates what a wonderful friendship you have forged with Saint. It's hard when we know our friend is losing ground, it's hard to think that one day the last phone call will have been shared. It's harder still when the time comes, to not have one more day. I am sorry that the pain patches could not work without the unwanted side effect of making her crazy, it's a horrible thing when you have to choose comfort over sanity...somehow it does not surprise me that she would choose the latter. I'll be including both of you in my prayers, I know that you need them as much as Pat. ((((FaithandSaint)))))

I'm wondering if there are other patches that aren't being tried for reasons we don't know? I know of others who had to try several before finding the right one ... I hope Saint's docs are among the best, most up-to-date, wonderful practitioners out there so we know all stones are being looked under, and new stones found to look under, and then more stones thrown in to look behind and around, and then .... Hugs, prayers and love dearest Saint and thank you yet again Faith.

Prayers of hope and good pain management!! Gentle hugs Saint.

Dear Saint, you are never far from my thaughts and always in my prayers.
Like Margal said, I hope your team can suggest some different type of pain meds that can take many layers of pain away. If you feel you can, try out possible alternatives to those nasty patches. It must have been so discouraging and draining and scary to have those patches and have them let you down so badly. I know we can't imagine it.
Praying for your comfort to return soon through the diligance of your team, your bravery and heart to possibly try a new medicine if it makes sense to you.
Praying that God fills your heart with strenght of the kind that only he can bring and to support you through each minute of each day. I so pray for that powerful support to be there for you and for your family.
Hugs to Cinderella too.

Thought I'd offer an update: My sister has not been able to talk on the phone for a couple of days now. I kept leaving messages on her voicemail until her husband Greg picked up yesterday during the afternoon (their time). I had been updated by our youngest sister earlier that he was planning on being there 24/7 as soon as the Easter break begins next week and thereafter. He is taking home leave with his allotted sick days. As it has turned out, he opted to take leave, effective immediately, this week. He simply said "It was necessary sooner." He says she is either in constant pain or so drugged from the patch that she doesn't know herself - which she still does NOT want, so she has opted to go without the patch for now. Greg and I spoke for a while. He was understandably subdued, more than calm, but still sad, of course.
I just wanted you all to know that in recent days she mentioned the whole birthday card mobilization MANY times - and how thrilled and humbled she was by all of it. Thank you ALL so much for your heartfelt support. You will all be glad to know that her neighborhood network there is also unbelievable. She is greatly loved and is truly aware of it as well. I found that extremely comforting to observe while I was there with her. It helped me to leave when I had to, although I wished I could be there with her to the end. She understood all of that too and our farewell was really perfect - something I don't think either of us knew we were capable of...actually experiencing joy through our shared sadness. It meant so much to both of us to recognize our bond as sisters at this point. For those 10 days together I will be eternally grateful.
Anyway, thank you for all of this for all these many months. I have no words left.
Only my fondest best wishes to all of you,
Maura

Marua. Thank you so much for your informative and insightful post. I am so grateful for your sharing the details of the current situation for our collective-sister saint. I am never certain how much she wants to share with the community-at-large, (unless I am directly typing for her) so you have taken a great weight from my shoulders with your candor.
I know how much she has spoken of the enormous support that she's felt from both yours and Bert's recent visits. How much she has been strengthened by your presence. I loved hearing the stories of your tradition of 'shopping' from each other's closets during visits. She was glad that her dancing ensembles could have a new life. How great to 'eavesdrop' on your unique sisterly bond. Pat expressed repeatedly how much she was warmed by your care..... how it was your strength that carried her through the rads process.
Thank you, Maura for bringing everyone up-to-date. I can not begin to fathom the emotions that you must be feeling at this time. I am so grateful that you were able to spend such high-quality time together. Memories. Sweet memories.
Greg's presence at Pat's side will bring her newfound strength. They are an amazing team. I'm so glad that he can take advantage of the 'family leave' thru his school district.
Prayers to the entire extended "Saint" family. The biological sibblings that have childhood memories to savor, her dear husband Greg with 30 years of marriage to appreciate and to their two dear children: wishing, hoping and praying....... as well as to the entire BCO sisterhood who have come to know Pat thru the years of her example of caring, mercy, sharing, and example.
Dear Merciful Healer. We join together in asking that your compassion reign down over your child, Pat, whose spirit is stronger than her body. She has been an example of wholeness, even tho her body has been broken, her love and exhuberance have known no bounds on this journey. I ask that you surround her with your mercy, the mercy of your angels. Please take her earthly pain and seperate it from her earthly experience.
We recognize the miracles that you have showered down upon our dear friend in the past.... and for that grace we give you thanks. Your perfect timing has allowed her to continue to shepherd our community thru her journey..... and for that timing we give you thanks.
I am such a child and ask as a child for you to grant yet more mercy and shower miracles anew. I must learn to realize that your grace is sufficient and your will shall be done. Please strengthen Greg, Luke and Molly as they spend these days together -- each sharing meaningful memories and stories.
How I long for there to be yet another new chapter.... of adventure and friendship.
