What Does of Aspirin Are You Taking
I am confused-I was first taking 325 but my oncologist said the study was based on the lower dose (8 mg)
What are you taking?

I suppose you mean 81mg (not 8mg)???
My mom's onc. said to take 1 baby aspirin 81 mg. daily.

Well, there actually wasn't a dosage stated, and it wasn't a study. It was more of an observation. So no one really knows facts.
What I understand is - women who reported that they took 2-5 aspirin a week, had reduced recurrence. Now, to my thinking, you would take it 2-5 times a week as pain relief, not as stroke prevention. Surely if taking it as a preventative, you would take it daily?? So, I am guessing (ha!) that they were taking regular aspirin. So, thats what I am taking. 3-4 times a week.
I'm seeing my onc next week, will get her take on it.

I forgot to ask my onc about aspirin when I saw him last week....so not taking it....I do take ibuprofen for pain relief....wonder if it is the anti-inflamatory or the same thing as with the heart and being a blood thinner....
-
Karen.... no, ibuprofen did not show the same benefit.
My oncologist said, in my case, one 325 mg daily. I discussed the study in detail with him. But I am not a small woman, and I tolerate aspirin well. This will be after I am done with chemo and have the port removed. So early May as my radiation oncologist (Dr Zap) said Ok to do while on radiation.

I told my doc that I started taking Vitamin D, and 1/2 of a 325mg aspirin daily along with continuing my Prenatal Vitamin (which he did tell me I needed to continue after birth of the boy) and he just said ok. Like I've said previously, he's not very informative/talkative so he didn't tell me what he thinks of it but he didn't tell me not to.

I read the study and, as vague as it was, it ssemed to me that a modeate dose had the highest success rate. So I am taking one 325 mg aspirin every other day and figure it couldn't hurt!
-
I see my onc next week as well and I'm going to double check with him. Right now, I'm taking 81mg every second day.

I have taken 500mg Bayer Aspirin (daily) that is specially made so that you don't get an upset stomach and had taken this for years before getting bc. It didn't help me not get bc, so I don't know how much it will help in regards for a recurrence. Aspirin helps so many other parts of a women's body, heart, circulation, arthritis, etc. So I believe, an once of prevention is worth taking.

I have been taking an 81mg. for quite a few years now. Apparently it didn't help from me getting breast cancer, but hopefully it will keep it away. Its also good for taking tamoxifen because they can cause blood clots.
