Baby it's cold outside

Beautiful day today with some clouds highs close to 70. I spoke to my roofing contractor today, after I called 2 times, they said that they got caught up with another job this week - more involved once they got the shingles off more damage on the sheathing to replace. She appologized for not calling but they had been working late on that other job and was afraid to call late evening. She said that the insurance company won't let them work if the forecast is 30% chance of rain. Rain is called for Sunday and Monday, she said that they would get to my job Tues or Wed next week.

My my, my northern friends. We only made it up to the high 60's today, but sunny and beautiful. In the 70's starting tomorrow. My DH and I went on a nice walk this evening. Usually the azaleas have bloomed by late January, but they are just now coming out. Shelia, sorry about your roof taking so long. Suzette, loved the comment about the doggie stuff. It will be spring soon. I'm soooo tired of cold weather.
-
Suzette, my yard work involved doggie "build up" too. Mine is an 85 pound german shepherd, so the "build up" is significant. Not only that, but the Snookie-bombs are sooooo stinky! I have a pair of old boots that stay outside all summer, just to use when cleaning the yard. Oh, well, at least it's an excuse to be outside and not working on the computer. . . .
-
Sheila, so sorry about the roof. They'd best get their butts to your roof next week or I'll send hubby and his crew down to do it! Enjoy the 70s this weekend Mary, I'll be enjoying 72 degrees inside my house this weekend - now the weather guessers are guessing 1-2 inches of snow tomorrow. GEEZZZ will it ever end???? NM - I am ashamed of my complaint as my doggie is only 20 pounds (full grown) so there is not as much "build up" as you have to deal with!!! Unfortunately I'll now have to wait until the first weekend in April to deal with it since DH and I are going to Toronto for the weekend next weekend. I hope anyone coming to our house won't look or sniff too closely!

We had a 55 lb basset hound that I had to clean up after. When we first got her, we would walk her around the back part of the yard next to the overgrown area and didn't worry about cleaning up the mess much but with my dx of bc I knew I wouldn't be able to walk her (she liked to pull) so we put up an overhead cable run about 30 ft long that started next to the back door and went out to the storage building and ran along the driveway so I could just step outside and hook her up. After we started putting her on the run, I had to start scooping to keep that part of the yard clear, I never knew how much poo she produced until I started scooping it. It limited her range to the length of the run and about 10 ft each side. We had to put her down last August when she had back problems that took the use of her back legs but we still haven't taken down the cable run.
We are expecting 70 today and tomorrow but rain Sunday and cooler temps Monday.

Aww Sheila, I'm so sorry you had to put her down. That's so hard.
We have 10 acres of property and I had trained Cleo to go close to the weeds and never had to worry about it either. In the winter, I'd go out with her and lead her to her place cause she doesn't like snow. This past winter with my diagnosis I just couldn't go out with her and my little grandchildren play in the back yard so I made her go out in the front yard so now the build up is by the house and everything! Yuk. Although I'm wondering if the dog odor is maybe keeping the skunks away from the house cause I haven't seen any close to the house yet this year!
Sorry, I should probably get off this yukky topic now shouldn't I? Leave it to a nurse to discuss poo.
-
Well, I went out and took a look around the back yard. Ground is still frozen, nothing is going to rake up today. It also doesn't feel like it's broken 60 degrees as predicted, in fact it's only 49 degrees now. At least there isn't any smell yet. . .
-
I must say I don't miss the job of cleaning up dog-flops, or the aroma. But I would love a dog. Do they have non-poopin' dogs now days?
-
Unfortunately no, food goes in one end - poop comes out the other end.
-
They are little poopie machines then. Kinda like babies!
-
Ya, except with babies we're forced to clean the poopies up immediately!
-
LMAO!
-
Suzette... WHAT? You said the "S" word! No more snow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Spring has definitely arrived in our area. It is glorious, temperatures in the 70s, gentle breezes, just heavenly.
-
Spring is here!!! my daffodils and grape hyacinths are blooming. Beautiful sunrise with temps in the mid 70's this afternoon. Today is National Quilting Day, hope all that quilt take some time out on this beautiful day to enjoy quilting.

Sound like a lovey idae, lvtwoqlt. I have to start quilting again. I could make all the tops in th eworld, it's the quilting that take so much time. My sister professionally machine quilts, but I just think it lacks the quality of hand quilting. I have a friend that won't even use a machine when piecing!
-
I use a machine to piece most of my tops but prefer the hand quilting, that being said the Quilt guild I am a member of 'Pine Needles Quilt Guild' did a mystery quilt challenge in 2008, I finished the top last year, most of what I hand quilt is small (less than 60' square) wall hangings, this is large enough for my queen size bed and I don't have room to put that large quilt in a frame so I am having it machine quilted by one of the members of the guild. Check out the 'crafting is good for the soul' thread and you will see on the next to the last page some of my quilt wall hangings, I get Spar to post my pictures then I posted my description of them in the following post.

My sister (the one I live with) went to Kansas, where she once lived, to visit friends. She left Thursday afternoon. She just called to see how things were and told me it was snowing as we speak and they were expecting 3-6" of snow. She asked if the same thing was happening here - not unless it can snow when the temperature is 75 degrees!
Sheila ... we have a Dutch Market in Maryland. I looked really carefully at the quilts they have for sale and honestly could not tell if they were hand stictched they looked that good. Stitches were the same size and straight as an arrow! I believe when I go to my cabin in the mountains that I fantasize about I will take one of those quilts with me - with purple in it!

We were in the mid-upper 60's on Friday and yesterday woke up to snow. Happy Spring. It didn't stick too much although there is still a bit left on the deck. The poor froggies just started their annual spring croaking (is that what noise frogs do?) on friday night and now we have cold and snow again. Not that I'm naive about Michigan weather - I've lived here for all but one year of my 49 years and expect snow as late as May but the older I get the harder it is to take this yukky stuff.
Glad the rest of you are getting warmer and have beautiful flowers coming to life. I'll live vicariously through all of you.
-
Up here in Maine we call those little froggies "peepers" after the little peeping sound they make. Ours haven't come out yet, not surprising since it was snowing again today. Didn't stick, but still, it's been cold and dreary all day, and I've felt like crap all day. The sore throat doesn't want to go away, no energy, and I am so glad it's break week and I dont' have to get up in the morning. Now if it was only late enough to go to bed for the night. . . .
-
NM, hope you feel better. I had the cr*p for almost 2 months before I got better. Immune system not what it used to be. I didn't make it to 70 today, rain rain rain. I'm still not going to complain, we've had such drought for so long, I will always welcome it. Supposed to be up to 70 most of this week. Unfortunatley, I will be inside working.
-
We've been at the coast this weekend. Yesterday was foggy and cold, today we headed further north and got a bit of sun. Tomorrow we head home, but not before hitting another garden center. We managed to fit three in today.
-
Rain started yesterday about noon, got hard rain overnight, calling for rain off and on today. By tomorrow should clear up.

Well, it may be spring by the calendar, but winter hasn't let go. 36 degrees, going to drop, rain coming in the afternoon, rain and snow coming tomorrow, a yankee clipper later in the week, yuck. Cold, cold, cold. I got spoiled with all the nice warm weather over the last week or two, should've known better than to let myself be fooled! I suppose this is good weather for catching up on the house work. I'd rather be playing in the garden, but realistically, that won't happen for anohter couple of months. Blah.
-
NM ... everytime I see you post I have to smile - your dog is so cute and looks so wistfull. It is as if he is saying "let's do something, go somewhere!"
Its been in the 70s here. I am pretty sure spring has sprung in the Washington area!
I can't wait to see pictures of your gardens ladies! Happy Spring!
-
We've got sun today, currently 36 but we're supposed to get up to 49. All of the snow is gone. Hope you feel better NM. The crud is still going around here too - dealing with a cough for four months now that gets better and then worse. I think we all just need some warm weather! Enjoy your spring break week. Have a great day ladies.
-
Actually got to sleep in today...really sleep in. I was wakened by DS calling from Japan at 6:45 am. That is late for us. DH says the sky is pretty and blue. We will get around soon and start meandering our way home. We have at least one nursery to visit here this morning before we head out.
-
In that picture Snookie is actually up in my easy chair, with her front feet and snout saying on one arm--she was watching me working on the computer and giving me the "I'm so neglected" look. The funny thing is that the pic was taken about 10 minutes after we got home from an hour long walk!
The sore throat is getting better, feeling a bit more energetic, actually getting some computer-based work done that I've been putting off for months, so the day isn't a total loss. Temps all the way up to 44 degrees. Blah.
