Has anyone here had experience with regaining muscle mass after treatment?

I didn't know if it is realistic to expect much improvement after the chemo damage.  I met with a hospital nutritionist today. She said it's possible to expect to regain some of the muscle mass with weightbearing exercise and protein replacement.  Guess I'll have to be in touch with my onc. to see what exercises are safe with osteoporosis...we do hike almost 2 miles a day when weather allows. I hope to be able to start the brown rice protein supplement when I get home from the hospital. Other ideas?

i think you should focus on revving up.  the more activity you can do, the more food, protein and calories you can eat.  If you kept a log of your activity and achievements you may notice that you'll gain daily.  I coach diving  and teach piano lessons.  both activities are measure incrementally and one really has to work work work.  One thing I incorporate into my daily activities.. the time passing by ever so quickly,  is isometric exercise.  Any moment of rest I try to use  to train or strengthen  a muscle or muscle group.  I stand on my toes imperceptably at church for instance,  striving striving striving all the time.  I eat for energy, sustenance and strength building.  I rely on nuts personally for much of my caloric needs.  I just love them.  They seem to go thru me well and give me strength and energy.

i hope I'm on the right track here.  I don't know much about your history altho a quick look at your recent posts reveals an amazingly thoughtful woman.  Perhaps you need to think more like an athlete would think.

here is a great webpage outlining the need to be active, rest and eat well..

Thanks so much, Apple.  This really helps.  BTW, I eat nuts all day, too.

I used to spend quite a bit of time in the gym prior to diagnosis and felt quite "buff"---lost it all though during the chemo....what has helped me regain some muscle mass was taking whey protein powder (mix it with juice)---I felt a lot stronger within a week or two and it definitely helped me "rebuild"...
