1Cathi: At one point I was up to around 1800mg per day. The groggy/foggy feelings do subside. At least they did for me.

I hate that your pain is so unmanageable right now. I know it's rough while they try to adjust everything to just the right balance.

    Hugs, and warm thoughts.

So up this AM with far less pain - yeah. Hoping it stays that way - yesturday was most awful the pain and the groggy run down feeling, Michele I spoke with onco yesturday because the groggys were sooooooooo bad, he said in most cases it can take several weeks,  I tend to have a low tolerance for anything like that. I would much rather be "HIGH" if you know what I mean,  it's such a downer feeling for me anyway, Onco won't lower the dosage says 900 a day and still having break through pain,  gotta try and get through it.  Guess I gotta put on my 'BIG GIRL PANTIES" as Barbe says.  I spent 95% of Friday in bed,  because of pain and because I just could not get up and function.  What a waste -

I ate much more breakfast this AM hoping that helps.  Right now the pain is quite tolerable ,  don't want to waste another day in bed  doped up.  Or doped down.as it really makes me feel.

THANK YOU - LOVE YOU ALL BUNCHES

Cathi, eating may certainly help the groggy bit. You also have to give the meds a chance to build up in your system to work evenly. You can do it!

I know Barbe  - PATIENCE IS NOT one of my vertues.  It;s a bit better today,  but staying up  IS FORCED, I would very eaisly lay down,  but not going to allow myself to yet.  MIND OVER MATTER -  MIND OVER MATTER.

Cathi, don't feel defeatist if you lie down! I lie down almost my whole days off (when I get a chance) to give my hips and knees and back a break. They can't heal while you are in pain. Just think of all good healing vibes while you lie and read/nap, watch tv/nap, watch babies/nap...or just nap!

Judies  - thats pretty funny.  So a pretty good day all in all, I could have stayed in bed all day if I allowed myself too.  But had Amanda bring Landen over for a few hours,  Margo needed a playmate,  and I realized today "children are energy pills"  It was just good,  I always love having them here as you all know,  and when they are here I do have that UMPH I so desire.  Now I am sure I will reep the rewards,  but all worth it.

So anyway gotta share something funny I GUESS, one of the new pills is causing me to have a pit extra bloating - Oh my goodness I have the walking toots so bad.  Landen thought it was pretty funny.  Kinda embarrasing at first with Ed don't believe he ever heard that before from me,  now he has just joked it away,  and I don't feel so bad because I just can't control it - sure hope that passes too - LOL

Cathi, M'y husband says that gas is better out than in. My dad calls the toots 'barking spiders'. I have been coughing so hard this week that I keep passing some gas while I am coughing or even worse, dribbling. Hopefully I will be over this bronchitis soon my coughing fits are not fun. Last night I took my bed time steroids (total 8 mg) and my blood pressure went up to 147/85 when it is usually 118/60. At least my dosage on the steroids are gradually getting lower, today I only took a total of 5 all day, and tomorrow I take 4. I am going to take my goofy cough syrup and get ready for bed soon.

Sheila, take your blood pressure after the cough syrup hits you and you'll see it a lot lower. Why are you on steroids?

My blood pressure has gotten as high as 214/112 in the ER of a hospital. At the time I was on FIVE prescriptions! Now it averages about 165/99. That's really good, I'm only on 3 heart pills now.

When I was in the hospital for that week last July, my bp got really low 125/78 as I was on morphine every 2 hours! hehehehehehe. I asked them if I could get a doctors note - for my doctor!

Waking up this AM feeling completely hungover - I have slept much better the last few nights not waking up hurting somuch .  I am realizing take the good with the bad and adjust accordingly.

Looks like we will hit 70ish here today  - yeah, hope spring has sprung and we can keep the dam heat off.

Cathi, pain can cause your blood pressure to rise. The "hung-over" feeling is usally a side-effect of narcotics. I get hung-over with my oxycontin and oxycodone. What other pain med are you on?

Barbe, I took the steroids and cough syrup at the same time and my bp went high. The doctor put me on 6 days of steroids because he heard wheezing in my lungs and wanted to break it up before it turned to pnumonia. If I hadn't gotten the antibiotics when I did I probably would have ended up in the hospital within a day or two with pnumonia. I still am coughing up phlem and I have been on meds since Wednesday afternoon. My bp is usually a lot lower than that. After I had my son (c-section) I went to the gyn who delivered him and the nurses were concerned that my bp was 115/60.

I was doing fine with the pain/narcotic alone Barbe but I think my tollorence has nuilt up to that as I have had so many diffrent ones of late. ,  so the new drug and perhaps the combo are doing it,  however I have googled a ton and that is a common complaint of the Gabapentin, but many say after time it lessens, so I'll do my best to give it time,  I do have to skip tonights dose and the AM does,  Landen has his neurologist appointment in the AM, so the oxycodone will have to do.  Don't want the DR's thinking I am some drunken grandmother,  I'de proably fall asleep in the chair or something.

Have a great night all, will let yeah know how Landen makes out.

Cathi, it's the other way around. The oxy is the "drunken" one and the Gabapentin is the one that has to build in your system and then be adjusted (possibly up) until you are not in pain. You can take the Gab and be fine, when you skip it, you've broken the build-up in your system.

I've spent hours with pain specialists...it's a very fine line. It will always take a combination of drugs as you need some for break-through pain and some to keep you out of pain (like a maintenance drug). Once you are in pain it is very hard for the drugs to work properly and you need way more to get the pain level down. It is important to take the drugs before you are in pain.

Good luck with Landen, please, please let us know. He has been in my prayers.

    XOXOXOXOXOX

Believe it or not Babrbe I don't have any hung over feeling from the narcotic at this time,  but he lowered the dose with the Gabapentin,  and it is that that is giving me the LOW SLEEPY feeling anyway the combo may be causing the hungover feeling in the AM. I know I did bad last night and this AM because I skipped the Gab,  I had too,  needed to go with Landen this AM and thank goodness I did,  what an adventure we were between the neurologists office and All Childrens Hospital from about 8:45AM until 2:30 seeing the DR and having the EEG,  walked about 3000 miles,  so home now and have  taken both.  Should have EEG results in a few days,  until then like everything else it's just wait,  DR was awesome,  All Childrens is a great place for kids and it's brand spankin new sense Dec when they opened the new facility so even the staff gets lost. So many sick little children,  we had to go past the dylasis unit and the little ones in there, so many,  and in the neurologists office it self,  sad-  sad sad.  That is the question I have never had a good answer for from God,  children such special miracles and treasures and why they muct endure so much at so young an age.  Just watching Landen in his burito roll being held down to have the EEG  things hooked to his head,  no pain of coarse ,  but the fear,  and him looking so sad and crying at us "why aren't you helping me?"   I will never understand why children have to be so sick.

    Hi my classy lassies!

Shiela great news, looks like your run of bad luck has come to an end. Loved the comment of coughing so hard that you were guffing away involuntarily. I though that only happened to me!

Cathi, I am so sorry you are in so much pain. I have suffered on and off from sciatica following a fall in 1996 and it is the pain from hell. I found chiropracy very helpful though expensive. I also use a TENS machine which is non invasive and drug free. You can get them really cheaply now. I don't know if it will work with bootface, but it is useful to have for general pain. The thing is that you can get days that are pretty pain free and the next day the pain is breathtaking.  Hot baths and Arnica too helped me. Praying that you get some relief soon. Nerve pain is so bloody commanding!

Barbe, good luck - hope you make the right decision. This could be a great opportunity for you. Your wit and humour - and brains - should land you a promotion. Fingers firmly crossed.

Poor cat is still sore and wants to on his own an awful lot. I hope he gets better soon , it breaking my wee heart.

Girls, please tune into You Tube and enter Hayley and Daniel+week 9 for the most amazing skating performance. Stunning. I love that show!

Well girls, off to try to catch a couple of zzzzz

Nettie watched the video - GREAT.  You hit the nail on the head about the sciatica pain,  and lucky me thats mainly what I experience because of location,  that stupid nerve can reek havock everywhere from the lower middle back which is a throbbing backache to the tips of the toes , the leg sensations are a deep throbbing tingling no stop numbing sensation somedays - UGH.  Oh well I'll get through it.  I do take many a hot bath with epsom salts it's not long term relief,  I guess mostly it just makes we feel good at the moment.  It won't hurt for me to mention the Tens to Onco and I will.

Hoping Neurologist calls today with an all clear for Landen,  hate the waiting game.

    HAPPY TUESDAY LADIES. XOXOXOXOXOXOXO

Cathi, as I said I feel for you and the hurt our children and grandchildren have to endure for tests even though the tests don't physically hurt. When they did John's EEG, they let me hold him wrapped in his favorite blanket like a burrito but he wanted out so bad. We had a neighbor child who had the petit maul seizures, he would just stare off for a few minutes then come back. He was taken to a center that specalized in seizures and they got him on a good treatment. I think he did finally outgrow the seizures.

Contractor said last week he would get my new roof on the end of this week, weather permitting. Weather report, beautiful today upper 60's and sunny, rain tomorrow (30%), rain Thursday (90% with thunderstorms), rain Friday (40%), guess I won't get my new roof this week Yell

Nettie, I once heard that the Horse Whisperer used the word "best" when he talked to the horses. Apparently they respond to that word. So with my cats, when one was with me, I'd tell them they were the best. Their tails would electrify and they would arch their backs and rub up on something so I know it works. Now with my final cat I say he is the "last" cat...hehehehe.

Anyway the point is, tell your poor baby he is the best and see if he responds.

Shelia they wrapped Landen in the burrito roll to hook him up then completely wrapped his head in gauze,  Amanda had to hold him for the 20 minutes the test ran but they unwrapped him for that part,  but by that time he was so scared and frustrated and one of the techs remained in the room he was completely still until the test was over and they had to take the junk off again but they did roll him and hold him down for that.  They did the burrito thing when they did his IV the day he had the seizure too but ended up having to tape his other hand/finger together to prevent him from ripping out the IV,  he's a strong little bugger,  when they did his chest X-Ray he actually kicked his way out of the contraption,  kinda funny the tech said he was Impressed.

Called Onco about PET still no word from insurance company - UGH ,

Ok ladies I have got to share what just happened,  forced myself off my ever enlarging butt and lazy hinny up to the store,  have been wanting a new wallet and I knew I would just go back to sleep if I did not do anything with myself,   now it is snowbird season here,  I appreciate the revenu they bring to our state,  Buttttttttttttttttttttttt for some reason there are those who think because they are Senior and spend a few months a year here they own everything and have a given right to be rude and nasty to anyone for any reason.  I wasn't feeling at the top of my game some pain,  tired and miserable ,  I pull into the lot and park about 4 spaces down in the row aside of me pulls another car,  I get out  and a older couple gets out,  well MRS MEAN A$$$ starts saying I don't know why you young people think you can do what ever you want,   I am thinking to myself first YOUNG  well Thank you,  she was most likely only 70ish dressed to the nines in here Florida apparell, you know the type if you have ever been here,  I am still being polite and just simply said "EXCUSE ME?" She says why do you think you should park so close to the store it should be for us seniors or something like that you just think you can do what ever you want to do -  I am no where near handicap and from what I saw they didn't even have a sticker for handicap,  I am really PO'ed now,  I normally just ignore rude people -  because they are idiots and not worth my time or energy -  It is warm today so I am wearing jeans and a little T  -  flat as a JAY BIRD - LOL. I point to my chest and say " I'm sorry -  excuse me I HAVE CANCER!"  and just keep walking into the store.  I am sure it didn't phase anyone as rotten as she is - but I hope it did and she has a really regretful evening.

You shouldn't even have said the word SORRY. That's probably all she heard.

I have a handicapped license plate now and I'm just waiting for the day someone challenges me. I don't use it all the time, but when I do, I need it. I pity the poor fool who even starts "that" conversation with me! Yell

Good for pulling the cancer card Cathi! I get annoyed at old people who bitch and complain after a game of tennis or something. Then don't play the friggin' game! I can't even walk to the courts!

Yes I did play the Cancer Card,  she just really made me mad,  I am sad to say I we have a family friend we really love very much and a few years back he had a massive Heart attack @ 57,  had bypass surgery and was at that time given a Handicap plate,  now to look at him,  you would not know this,  nice looking, and quite fit,  yet he himself will complain about someone he suspects to be younger than him parking in handicap -  Duh -  age has nothing to do with it.

Anyway I wasn't even in handicap,  I would never do that without a plate and as of yet do not need/want one, there are others who can far more use that privalege than I ,  this lady thought I should have parked across the street  =  DUMB RUDE ASS.
