Sheila - I'm so glad you got back safely from your grandma's funeral and great to hear that you have access to a laptop and facebook - I will look you up and send you a friend request.

Nettie - that's sad about Whisper's leg but I'm very glad he's going to be ok. I have seen a few 3-legged animals and they seem to cope really well. It's great to hear that you met up with Devin!

Karen - wonderful to hear that your house is nearly ready - SO exciting! I'm thinking of your cousin and hope and pray she copes well with the chemo.

Cathi - loving all the sweet photos of Ella.

Judie - what a fabulous cake!! Love the green scales and all the colour. Must have been such a hit with the kids.

Nancy - a puppy!!! He will be great for your healing. Hope you get on top of all the side effects from the surgery/medications very soon. It will all be very worth it.

It's been a very busy week for me. My husband had to re-apply for his job (he's been in the same job for many, many years but apparently that is now almost frowned upon and not rewarded). The application had to be all done online, using all the pompous jargon that seems to have swamped the workplace these days (best practice, achieving outcomes, excellence, performance indicators, inclusivity, blah, blah, blah). You can talk about excellence and achievement until you are blue in the face but if you don't actually do it - what's the point?! Anyway, I initially typed out 10 pages in a word document, then he had to condense it into 3 main answers which took forever. I went to work with him each day and in between his many duties, we worked on the application. Then home to work on it until often 1am. The interview should be next week. It's demeaning that, even though he does his job so well and is well liked and respected, he has to go through this stressful process. There's always the worry that he will lose his job to a much younger person. Rant over.

Love to all and also to Lisa, Sue, Mel, Shirlann, UB & AE and everyone here.

Jane, I think that's the lousiest situation. One of my brothers had something similar happen to him when a new administration took over. Everyone above a certain level  had to submit resignations and then they picked and chose who they wanted to stay and didn't rehire the others. Technically, because they resigned, they weren't eligible for unemployment or severence pay. It really stunk. My brother was very very good at his job, but because he's a major jerk at times, some people in other departments who didn't like him badmouthed him, and he wasn't rehired.

Well, I'm the only one home with the new puppy. My brother put him in his crate as he will be out for several hours. So now I have to listen to the wimpering, puppy-barking howls, or let him out and be responsible for his bladder control. I think I have some ear plugs around here somewhere...

I can sympathize with having to re-apply for jobs. they just told us whatn jobs would not be kept after the consolidation. we will get severance as well as unused vacation pay. I am planning several jobs to do around the house when I am home, painting and pulling up carpets. I know in the one bedroom I pulled carpet up in because of allergies, there was hardwood flooring that wasn't too damaged, we put thin plywood over that floor with a few small nails and stick tile on top. we are hoping that the other two rooms will be in good enough shape not to need to be re-finished any time soon.

Nancy, my mil got a puppy last year and she wouldn't keep it in the crate if it cried and kept papers in the bathroom off the family room for it to empty its bladder. I don't think it was propperly house broken. it would just as soon go on the papers in the bathroom as let somebody know it needs to go out. Keep it in the crate a while.

    Hi classie lassies

Jane, that was not a rant. The "on trend" management style is nothing short of a disease. I have been a Co-Ordinator of a charity, been an account manager and, because I am a knowledge junkie, went back to Uni in 2001. The theory is great - Total Quality Management, pioneered by the Japonese after world war 2 - is a fab concept. And one that we applied always anyway. Always strive to do things better. But now these ... people .. have taken a concept, pickled it into a dogma, highlighted some buzz words and think they have reinvented the wheel. I am angry on all your behalf. And mine. Actually the trick is to use the buzz words.

Big Whispa is cool. He was so unlike himself, disappearing into god knows where in my wee house. I had my nephew looking after him while I went through to Edinburgh. Poor old cat licked the joint through to the bone. Came down for breakfast yesterday covered in blood. Poor nephew hit the deck, I almost passed out, Today he is back to his old self, minus a leg. I have been given an Elizabethan coller to put on him, but don't think he will need it, wound look so clean - and we know a clean wound do we not girls? - and he is on the mend for certain sure.

Sorry Judie, but going to wax lyrical about Devin. Lovely lad. Will meet him tomorrow to wave him off to London. He has been to Skye and Oban and not frozen in the process.

Cathi - the pics of Ella in her wee headband were - how can I put this - ADORABLE! To think the worry we all had before she was born. Brandt always looks great, but his expression is amazing.

Love and hugs to you all

    Nettie x

Jane, I can't believe what they are putting your husband through! And the cost to his employer to follow this ridiculous plan!!!

Nancy, I just love it that you have a puppy to love, but babysitting a puppy all alone might be a bit much! Use that crate!!! How are you feeling?

Sheila, is your job not being kept? Is there any possibility of remaining employed? You seem to have an amazing attitude about it...practical and positive. You go, girl!!!

Nettie...just got a quick note from Devin...he says, "Nettie is amazing!" I can't wait to get a full report via Skype and see all the photos. So happy about Whisper!!! What a fright he gave you.

Cathi, I love the photo! Truly LOVE it! He is bursting with personality.

I'm fatigued, lightheaded, dizzy and brain foggy/ditzy from a bout of illness. I was either a kidney stone or infection, or diverticulitis. Since the treatment is antibiotics for both, I opted to just take the pills and skip the cat scan unless things got worse. They didn't and it cleared up rapidly with the meds. Whew!

I just finished chemo and I am currently doing radiation. I had a bi-lateral mastectomy in oct 2009 and I am 34yrs old. I tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation which means this raises my chance for ovarian cancer. I am scheduled to have a hystrectomy in may. I realize it's hard when you have lost a loved one I understand trust me! But Medicine has changed now you can beat this!! Take each step of the journey at a time don't jump ahead. First things first once you feel comfortable with your choice of surgery whether it be mastectomy or lumpectomy get through that don't think about the rest of it yet. Think about each step as it comes that's what helped me. I got through surgery healed from that and then when it was time for chemo I read up on that and asked doctor alot of question until I felt informed and then dealt with that and then I did the same thing with radiation.  One step at a time!

Lisa I was farther south than you, I could see Dayton International Airport tower from my Aunt's house, to give you a point of reference you would know. I have connected with several of my cousins on FB, if you go to John Beavers page you can see some of the photos he took while up there - album Ohio trip. It shows the road conditions and there are some he took at the cemetery. We have upper 40's today and sunny. We got by this weekend without any winter precipitation - first time in 3 weeks.

Jane, I got back to a message from the president to come to his office when convenient from the previous Monday. I replied and his secretary called me to say she would do the meeting in his place and told me that only a handful of jobs would be kept but outlined the severance package. I am planning right now for the enviable.

Sheila, I hope and pray that you are kept on! Then you would be the envy of many!

Cathi - that photo of Brandt is gorgeous! What a character he is!

Oh Nettie - poor Whisper! No wonder you both nearly fainted. Glad to know he's on the mend though. He is sure to heal and adjust fairly quickly.

Lisa - I saw that photo of you and Tom on FB - what a great couple you make - beautiful and handsome!

Hi Tiffany, it's great you have finished chemo and hope the radiation goes well. I hope you will be feeling better soon. So sorry that you have to face more surgery with the hysto. The girl who started this post is doing well - she is into her 3rd year post dx. She doesn't post here much any more but we love it when she drops in.

    Speaking of Sue.....hellllllloooooo Sue!

Judie, Karen, Barb, Nancy, Sheila, Patmom and everyone, gotta rush. Love each one.

Lisa my sis in law called today from PA she is OVER THE WINTER, they are leaving Friday to come down for a week, my BIL owns his own business and their son works it too,  so they just said last night we gotta get some sunshine and warmer weather.  Today was a most beautiful Fla day,  mid 70's sunny and just beautiful,  spent most of the day outside,  Amanda nad SIL and kids came over,  SIL helped Ed trim some palm trees and do a bit of yard clean-up,  Landen played most of the day in the sand box or with Margo,  just a relaxing wonderful day.

I know I did a ton of ranting about Bill when they first got here,  while he still has a ways to go, gotta give some credit I have seen some change for the better. And I do have a better understanding of why??? He pretty much grew up in foster care,  his mom being an drinker and drug addiction,  his dad an alcholic, he pretty much had Nooooooooo childhood,  lots of abuse from his parents before he was taken away  even slept in dumpsters in the winter to keep warm,  he truly has NO CONCEPT of family,  but anyway I don't expect miracles but I have seen change ,

Have a great evening all - xoxoxoxoxoxo

Nettie, I'm afraid Devin waxed lyrical about you, too! You will never know how much it meant to me to have you there for his first excursion out of London. He adores you and said that both he and Elizabeth realized that it was the first time since they left home that someone "took care" of them. That was most deeply appreciated. Bless you. He tried his new, improved Scottish accent on me, but just couldn't quite get it up to speed. He is in love with Scotland and her people.

Cathi, who better to teach the concept of family to Bill than yourself? You've seen both sides of family life. If there is change, who is to say there won't be a miracle? I think little Ella might have brought several along with her.

It's gorgeous in Seattle right now. Sunshine, slightly cool...my absolure fav. I don't tolerate heat, but love sunshine.

Off to treat Jasper to a walk in the sunset...

I am having fun right now trying to figure out insurance policies. to take the insurance that my husband's company carries, we would be paying about 585 per month for both of us with limited coverage. If I took out a private policy we could get the same deductible but with co-pay office visits for about 1/3 the cost. I just have to make sure that whatever I do, I don't have a lapse in coverage.

    Hello everyone,

It's been a long time since I have posted.  I stopped reading on page 476 and still have so much to catch up on.

I wanted to give you the latest on our family.  I had an exceptionally fun day on 2-4-2010. LOL.  My husband called to tell me he was called in to work for time and a hald - Lord knows we could use the money - LOL.  I'm in the middle of surgery, starting an IV for another nurse, three patients in pre-op, short one nurse, ordering meds on the phone from the hospital, someone in my office wanting to complete a proposal for insurance contracts and a doctor in surgery wanting me in the OR to talk while he performs surgeru and my sweet little receptionist trying to be sweet says, "Ms. Leesa your needed on the phone," I tell her she needs to wait a minute, and she repeated herself and I repeat myself then all of the sudden she says, "Ms. Leesa I;m sorry and I know your busy but the hospital on the phone and your husband has had a wreck andd he's broke."  It was as if the world come to a sudden hault and I asked her to repeat herself which she did.  I ran to the phone and sure enough it was the hospital and he broke both his Tib/Fib bones at both ends.  He is now the proud owner of 20 regular screws and 2 butterfly screws and two plates.  Talk about team work at the surgery center.  My gourp of employees came to together and I rattled off it seems like 50 orders and announced to the doctor I had to leave we would talk later and out the door in all of 5 minutes. LOL.  I have such a great staff of emplloyees.  The whole process was scary but looking back on some of the details it was aslso funny.  He had his wreck at the hospital as he went through the parking lot to park his motorcycle he hit a patch of ice and wrecked his motorcycle.  NEEDLESS TO SAY HE DID NOT GET TO WORK FOR TIME AND A HALF. lol.  He was found by one of the doctors he works with in the cath lab.  The docotr pulled up beside him, rolled his window down and said, "Donnie, you ok."  Donnie said yes, then he sat up and said, "I was fine unil I said up and my foot dropped to the side.  Dr. Bayouth called the cath lab and told them, "Linda, send all the boys and a stretcher, don't worry about Donnie he's already here."  He never told them Donnie was the patient.  The funniest part is the ambulance service and police got to the hospital parking lot before the employees with the stretcher.  LOL.  I can laugh now but at the time he was so grey and pale and sweating but trying to be brave.

I was reading Sheila's post where she was possibly loosing her job.  I want you all to know that God watches over all of us especially in our time of needs.  My bills from the surgeries, medications, and radiation have finally caught up with us and we maxed out our credit cards but I never gave up and I never stopped believing in God.  Today, my boss, he's the best, brought me a check for $5,000.00 and said it was just because I did a good job for him and he appreciated all I did.  Even though he tells me thanks and he encourages me everyday he said he thought I could use part of my year-end bonus now.  All I could do was cry and I asked him to give it to someone else that needed it more than me.  He just hugged me and said, You are the one that needs it now.  I have never experienced anything like this before.  I can't bring myself to cash the check and I'm not sure what to do.  What do you guys think.

Hang in there Elaine! My thoughts are with you as you untangle the mess! I'll bring a mop if you need it! lol

Sheila, would COBRA be an even better option? These decisions are tough. You will make a good one...no question about it.

Leesa, In my not-so-humble opinion... by graciously receiving the gift, you give him the gift of doing something he values that makes him feel good. If you refuse, you deny him that gift. This seems like a time that being a grateful recipient is the right thing to do for all concerned. We'd all prefer to be on the helping hand side of life, but imagine how you would feel if your offer of help was refused.

Leesa, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, DEPOSIT THE CHECK and pay off some of your bills!

About your hubby feeling alright at first, when my mom fell at Church the first of the year, she said she was OK until she walked out to get in her car and passed out. Even then, she didn't want to go to the ER. When she got home, she could barely walk and told my sister, I better go to the ER. they found she had the green break on her foot and a fractured nose. The foot doctor said that she will be wearing the boot for a while, that bone is not healing very fast.

Julie, I don't qualify for COBRA since I have access to a group plan through my husband's job, even though it is crappy insurance (have to pay $5000 per person before insurance starts paying). That is why I am looking at private coverage (same deductible, but with office visit copay and prescription coverage) but cheaper premiums.

Elaine - XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO  Leeza send me a friend request,  I'll be there - I agree with the others about the money.

Oh girls yesturday was the absolute worst day of my life,  I thought I had been through it all with children and grand children - NOPE not even close. I am still a bundle of nerves - anxiety overwhelmed.

I was having a crappy AM really hurting wasn't even dressed when my phone rang about 11AM, it was from Amanda's phone but it was the lady from the leasing office calling, Landen was having a seizure and was not breathing -  OK HOLY F-------------------- talk about adrelanin - I through on cloths put Margo in her bed and off I went Amanda lives 3.9 miles away.  By the time I got there they were already on the wy to the hospital,  the leasing lady was with Ella.  It took Ed and Jaclyn about 20 minutes to get there,  Bill was called and went directly to hospital.  Landen had another seizure in ambulance and one at hospital,  Ed and I got there he was passed out sleeping -  he looked so beat up. After a bit Amanda and Bill went out to do the paper work,   then in comes Bill,  Amanda passed out in the lobby they now have her in ER - WTF.

Long story short they have both had a nasty stomach bug the past few days, while Landen never ran an actual temp when she took it or the hospital either it was just at 99 -  they say it must have spiked causing the seizures - fiberal seizure (sp) they did blood work,  urine test,  chest x-ray all was ok.  Gave him large dose on antibiotic and saline water IV (oh he was just tortured yesturday - poor guy).  They both were home about 8PM last night, Jaclyn kept Ella overnight,  I have her now as Amanda and Landen have to see their Doc's today.  I can't even tell you how freakin scared I was/AM,  the whole not breathing part about stopped my heart.  I am still not normal from it.

SIL did great,  he stayed with me and Landed once Amanda was in ER helping through the IV and X-Ray (Ed was with Amanda) Landen crashed after that slept through the whole IV drip so Bill went to Amanda's room.  Again credit when credit is due - he did great.  He said to me at one point "I guess this is one of these times that you realize you just live today - don't worry about anything else"  I was amazed.

So anyway.  Hope all this is over,  I held it together when I had too, but when we got back home last night - boy  did the tears fall, complete exhaustion and fear.
