    Spring,

I am SO glad that you are healing, and getting strong again.  Yes, the body is truly amazing!  When I had my bilateral mast., I left the hospital, and when I got home, I went for a walk, drains and all.  Less than a week later, when I went to my surgeon for my follow up, he was amazed at how quickly I healed.

Yes, I run.  Somehow, it seems that I get finished quicker...  I don't want to be out in the cold any longer than  absolutely necessary!!   lol

    Hugs

    Sandy

I wish we lived closer, too...

I have been posting and reading the posts on the running thread, and those women are maniacs!  lol

I have such respect for them, because they run MARATHONS...  I can only do 2 miles... but at least it is SOMETHING....   I run slower than I walk I think... lol

It would be so nice to have someone to walk or run with... it's hard to stay motivated when I am alone...

    Hugs

I walked 2 miles this afternoon! Cold out, but sunny. Took about 32 minutes. Now I will try to do some home Yoga tonight, maybe 30 min!

Yay for the RUNNING Harley! Wow! I am very impressed. My body never got the running thing. It was like I could never get enough air or something, LOL. I do better at walking fast and the eliptical. But I am PROUD OF YOU!!!

Deanna, how many miles today girl??? How you be Miss Kari?

My first DVD was Yoga for weight loss Susan Deison (not sure of the spelling) GIAM put it out.  I liked how she gave different levels of difficulty and explained about how to protect your knees etc.  Since then I've branched out, but thought it was a good starter DVD.  Don't know if anyone else has any suggestions.

    I be chillin!  hahahahaha

So yesterday my back was achy (did that long yoga the night prior and had to stand in one spot getting trained on our new bizhub for a LONG time) so I thought I'd go for a walk after work since it was 69 degrees!  Well I started out and OUCH, my shins were killing me!!  I tried slowing down but got discouraged and I was hungry...so I used the 10 minute rule and went home in 12 min!  BUMMER CITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And today I just stretched a bit before work.  What is up with me????????????  I HAVE to get back on track and get my butt up at dark thirty tomorrow, holy cow!!

Maura, I have a couple yoga dvd's, one is from GAIAM and it has 5 routines, the say for weight loss I think, but I bought it cause it was on sale!  The other is from a lady that I did a class with in Hawaii, so not for sale in stores.  My surgeon suggested both pilates and yoga.  Good for your core and keeps your muscles strong and lean and good for joints.

Running is a big UGH for me!!!!!!!  I try but my butt seems to jiggle, haha and I feel very heavy!!

Spring, so so so very happy that your body is healing!!!!!!!!!  YIPPEE!!  and Harley, GREAT JOB!!!

Exercise, Tea Consumption, and Depression Among Breast Cancer Survivors

Purpose To examine the association of lifestyle factors and supplement use with depression among breast cancer survivors.

Patients and Methods In a population-based cohort study conducted between April 2002 and December 2006 in Shanghai, China, a total of 1,399 women who were diagnosed with stage 0 to III breast cancer completed 6-month and 18-month postdiagnosis, in-person interviews. Information on sociodemographic, clinical, and lifestyle factors were collected through the interviews and through review of medical charts at approximately 6 months postdiagnosis. A metabolic equivalent (MET) score was calculated from reported exercise activities. Quality of life (QOL) was evaluated by the Medical Outcomes Short Form-36 Health Survey at 6 months postdiagnosis. Depressive symptoms were measured by using a 20-item Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale at approximately 18 months postdiagnosis.

Results Overall, 26% of women reported depressive symptoms and 13% met the criteria of clinical depression at 18 months postdiagnosis. Women with a higher exercise level (ie, 8.3 MET h/wk) were less likely to have depression than nonexercisers; the multivariate adjusted odds ratios (ORs) were 0.71 (95% CI, 0.47 to 1.07) for mild depression and 0.56 (95% CI, 0.35 to 0.88) for clinical depression in analyses controlled for sociodemographic and clinical factors and baseline QOL. Women who increased their exercise level had lower risk for depression. Regular tea consumption (ie, > 100 g dried tea leaves/mo) was inversely associated with overall depression (OR, 0.39; 95% CI, 0.19 to 0.84). No associations were found for dietary intake or supplement use with depression.

Conclusion Regular exercise participation and tea consumption may play an important role in the prevention of depression among breast cancer survivors.

Hi, to all, and rest assured that I read each of your posts thoughtfully. I am so happy for all the movers and shakers, and I am hopeful for the rest of us who seem to have fallen off the exercise wagon. Unfortunately I am in the second category right now. I didn't work out yesterday or today, and I may or may not summon the motivation?energy?good judgment?whatever? to stretch a little before going to bed.

I have been dealing with shoulderblade pain for 2 weeks now, and it has set me back a spell. My MDs really want me to get that PET scan done, but my insurance company denied it, and now we are working on an appeal. (Believe it or not, "they" said since my mammogram and ultrasound were "fine" that I did not need a PET scan. Gee, sounds like somebody doesn't really get how breast cancer works sometimes and like somebody thinks Mammos and US's have some special predictive power with regard to the rest of the body!) Meanwhile I am taking medication that I would rather not take, just so I can sleep at night; I tried to go without it, but I hurt so much I lost sleep. I must have sleep.

Okay, I will stop growling and get myself ready for an early bedtime. Thankfully my husband and I will get away for a 3 day weekend, so that should put me in better spirits. I will try to get some walking in, and I will check in with you all when I can. Take good care!

Sorry your insurance is being a pain about getting a PET scan...  gee, they SHOULD have medical people there who know how cancer works...  I hope you can get the test, but I really hope the pain goes away, and IF you have to get the PET SCAN, I'm praying for the ALL CLEAR...

Have a great 3 day weekend get away!!

So sorry you're in pain, Brenda.  Hope the weekend away helps a lot.  And how incredibly stupid of your insurance company to deny a scan.  Why must they be so frustrating at times?!

I forgot what day I last reported my walking mileage, but I did 4.6 on Monday, 5.06 on Tuesday, zip on Wednesday, 3.2 yesterday, and 5.78 today.  All I can say about today's is, the weather was a bit odd -- sort of overcast and very windy, and it just felt good to be out walking.

Harley, I just have to say, you are my new hero, running 2 miles -- and in the bitter cold you've been having.  I try to intersperse running into my walking, but for some reason I can't sustain the running for more than 1/3 of a mile.  Years ago, I could do 3 miles, but not anymore.  Yesterday, I started stretching again, and was rather dismayed to see how tight and unlimber I am.  Maybe doing more of that will eventually help with the running.

Does time go fast, or what?!  Seems like just a couple of days ago I was wishing everyone a great weekend, and now here we are again!   Make it a good one, everyone!    Deanna

    Deanna,

    Thanks...  :D

When I was going through treatment, and after my surgery, I walked alot.  I even walked when I got out of the hospital after my bilateral mast., drain tubes and all.  I was feeling kind of tired from the pain med. that they gave me, and I just needed to do something to wake up... :D

Anyway, now, almost 3 yrs. from my dx., I'm starting to run again, and I still have to walk a few times in my run.  I don't know if I will ever be able to run more than 2.6 miles, which is the distance I ran 5 yrs. ago, when I entered a 5K with my dh.  Some of the women here on the running thread run MARATHONS... I could NEVER do that!!!

    Everyone, have a great weekend!!

Brenda, sorry to hear about the pain you are experiencing.  Could a chiropractor help or acupuncture?  They had better clear that scan!!!!!!  makes me MAD!  big hugs and have a wonderful 3 day weekend with your man, rest easy and take what you need to help you sleep til this shoulder thing gets figured out.

Deanna, you be da walking BOMB!!  Harley, what can I say, you be da running BOMB!!

    I did nothing yesterday...zip...squat...nada....

Didn't sleep too well last night, hot cold hot cold hot cold, you get the drift.  Managed 1 mile before work today.

Cold and crummy here again!  UGH!   Winter is BAAAACK!!!!!!!!!!

Boy I thought I'd have to read a couple of pages to catch up.    I have been motovated, just not recording it. The weather has been great so I've been out in the garden the last couple of days.  We are having rock delivered sometime soon so I am cleaning out underneath all the plants.  My body is aching today.  I planted my yearly rosemary and basil.  I so love the smell.  I went and saw Brad Paisley last night and it was great.  My daughter and I  love to go together and hang out.  It is a good bonding experience, especially with a good dinner beforehand.  Well off to drink my pot of coffee and get back out there.  I promise I'll walk or something today.  diane

Yes, 5 yrs ago, my dh and I ran a 5K...  it was fun.  I find that it's easier and I finish my exercise faster if I run...  well, it isn't really easier...   but I am done quicker...  I run slow, though...

Well, it's warming up some here ...    it's getting into the low 60's...  so maybe I'll go out tomorrow... I went out yesterday...  short run...

Busy weekend with DD and DS home - they have now gone again and I can catch my breath!!

My Wii Fit informed me that I haven't missed a day training in 22 weeks!!!

I'm lazy though, I don't get up at dark thirty like some of you!!!  Will have to start getting a little more organised though because my exercise time is eating into my day a little too much. It's getting harder to lose weight as a result of the exercise now - and I still have a good bit of weight to lose. I still only do Wii Fit Step Plus about 1hour a day - compared to what some of you do it's nothing to get excited about.

Hope everyone is doing well Smile!!

I am just so glad that it's warmed up, even a little bit, because it's just been COLD here, and especially since NC is usually warmer...  sorry, I don't mean to sound like I'm rubbing it in...  just glad to get a break from the freezing cold weather...

Harley, just teasing.  Though, you southern girls (and I know that means different things depending on what state you are in) have a different definition of COLD then us northerners.  And now my DS in Minneapolis tells me we haven't seen a cold winter until we spend a winter there.  Laughing

It is a mess out there this morning.  I may have to have a third cup of coffee and a few minutes on the treadmill before I can stand it.  At least I can go in a little later today and miss the worst of rush hour.  Problem is that its only supposed to get worse as the day moves on.

And just to bring the conversation back to the first paragraph they're saying the warmer Southern Air in the mix is what is making the  snow so heavy. Wink

Well the weather was great again yesterday, but I did not walk.  I did garden most of the afternoon, my body is aching.  I did not know I had that many muscles in my leg.  But at least it feels like I did some sort of workout.  This morning it is raining, hopelly clearing up by this afternoon so I can walk.  Enjoy your Monday (sunny, rainy or snowy).  diane

Hi, all ~  Just reporting in... very windy & "cold" (I'll spare you the details) here today, so I only did 2.2 miles, with the idea of maybe doing another quick 1 or 2 later.  I also did 4 miles on Saturday, but none yesterday.  Also working on stretching, and still rather shocked at how stiff and tight I am, but hoping I can make a huge improvement by working at it now.

With a full calendar of houseguests starting this weekend, I am finally getting around to doing some much needed cleaning.  Tackled the guest room yesterday, and just checking in here before deciding which room to tear apart today.

Ainm, amazing record (22 weeks without missing a day)!!!!!  You should submit your story to Nientendo or whoever markets the program you're using.  Maybe they'd buy it from you for promotional use???  Being able to stick with any program that religiously is an incredible marketing point!

kmmd ~ Sorry you're dealing with such lousy weather.  Do you have a four wheel or all-wheel drive vehicle?  Not sure where you live, but when I lived in the mountains, that was what made the hugest difference in how I looked at winter driving.  It takes away so much of the angst and dread about getting out there.      Deanna

Wooooww,  yes, the weather totally sucks here in the midwest right now.  Uggghhh.  However, got a little exercise in today.  Finally starting to feel better and at a meeting today one of the sickest people I've seen in awhile sat next to me and sprayed as she sneezed non stop and went through two packs of tissues in a 90 min meeting.  I nicely told her afterwards to keep her frickin germs at home from now on (I really was very kind and tactful, hid everything I really wanted to say).  Man that really busts my chops.  Our employer made the mistake of doing a combined time off.  Vacation and sick time are mixed.  Sick less, vacation more.  Do you think anyone takes that time off when they're sick, of course not.
