So am I! *sick of the snow*
I noticed 1bmore's post from 2/2 and she said 4pm. I vote we stick with that!
I plan to be there.

good morning everyone - looking forward to seeing you later today. I have watched the weather like a fanatic (and dont trust them anymore) but I went to www.footsforecast.org - they are scarily accurate and they are saying that this will be minor at best - snow is expected to start lightly late this afternoon and continue thru the night so our event is safe - total accumulations when all is said and done is 2-3" in baltimore metro and 3-4 North and west - so we are still good tonight.
Parking is street parking however there is a Safeway parking lot diagonally across the street that is available and is probably a lot easier to get in and out of and you wont have to parallel park for those that hate doing that.
I plan on being there by 4 and the bartenders are working on creating a special drink for our event.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight. Kimberly

Kimberly - because I am at least an hour north of your event (all highway driving), if it continues to seem like it will be snowing/sleeting in the evening, I am not going to come. I really dont' want to spend a stressful hour or two driving back home in the dark through the snow. That being said, I am SO DISAPPOINTED, I can barely stand it. Do you think you will have another meet up? I hate to think I could miss the ONLY ONE but I want to be safe and make a good, rational decision.
If I were local, I would definitely be there, but it just feels too far if the roads could be slippery. I'll check back early this afternoon and let you know for definite.
With a sad face -
Amy
-
Amy - I understand completely - And there will most definitely be more of our GNO's - I too am going to keep an eye on the weather and hope that the weather predictions have it wrong and that you will be able to come, but I would rather folks be safe and comfortable.
Let's hope the weather holds off!

I'm tired from my retreat, and it's snowing, so I'm playing it safe and staying in. I hope you are having a WONDERFUL time, and I'll look forward to the next one!!!
-
I also skipped the dinner, as much as I would have loved to meet everyone, I'm a chicken with driving, I was south of Baltimore earlier today and once it started snowing, I came home instead. I hope your all having a good time. Harford County is still a mess. Hope to reschedule again soon.

Well you ladies missed a great time! It was so nice meeting everyone! The good news is that we're doing it again on St. Patrick's Day! Hope to see you all again soon!

I can't believe I missed this...I still have such a chemo brain and just totally forgot what day of the week it even is!
How was it? Who was able to make it? Are there any pictures to share??
-
It was super fun and so heartwarming to meet the wonderful ladies that were there. And what great food! The restaurant worked so hard to make us feel welcome -with the pink balloons and the signature pink drinks and the on-the-house desserts. I definitely vote we go there again!
I didn't even think to take any pictures, but we are talking about meeting again around St Patrick's Day and maybe then we can get a great group shot.
It meant so much to me to meet you ladies. You are sisters and friends.

Dear Ladies,
I'm soo sorry I missed this and look forward to the 17th. in March. I was admitted to the hospital on Sunday and didn't get out until today. I was thinking of you all on Monday....and was so sad to miss it!
-
cancersuks~ I hope you feel better soon and they find a way to fix what that women destroyed ((bighugs))
-
cancersuks, I'm sorry you were hospitalized, and hope you're feeling ok now. I, too, am hoping to get to the 17th. That week is good for me until friday, when I'm helping to put up a quilt show.
-
Hi everyone - I had such a great time last night - it was so good to meet all of you fabulous women! Thank you! For those that could not attend, please know that you were missed and we hope that you will be able to join us for our next Girls Nite Out! And by our next GNO, mother nature will be done with her snow dump on our area! Yeah!!!!
Cancersuks - I am so sorry to hear that you were in the hospital and I hope that this finds you feeling better! Sending you hugs!
So for our next GNO - I spoke to the owner and he has suggested that we either do it the week before St. Patricks or the week after - there will be massive crowds on St. Patricks day as people actually take the day off - bar hop and drink like fiends! And that Friday is March madness - and while Hudsons is hockey oriented, they do get overflow from the other bars in the area. Baltimore is clearly a drinking town.
So if everyone could weigh in and decide on either Wednesday March 10th or Wednesday March 24th we can secure the date - I personally had such a great time last night that i am voting for the 10th -
When I spoke with the manager, he was so happy to hear that we had a good time and that we want to come back - he is already thinking of something special for us!
Again, thank you everyone for such a great time last night. My first social outing (especially with my wig) was a success and I felt so comfortable and in such incredible company.
Once we set the date, please feel free to spread the word - the more the merrier!
Let me know what date works best and again - thank you everyone!

The 10th is a little bit better for me, but I should be able to attend either day.

I am born and raised in Baltimore and now live in the Northern Virginia area - I have a crazy question for Baltimore ladies - especially those from Glen Burnie where I spent many years growing up - my mother died of BC at 42 and I was diagnosed at 52 two years ago - I did a very quick study of the Glen Burnie area and seemed to have come up with quite a few BC cases as well as overall cancers. I did the genetic tests and do not carry the BRAC1 or 2 gene - I am convinced that my mom's cancer and mine are environmentally linked. so my question is , do any of the Glen Burnie women find "cancer clusters" in various neighborhoods? Just wondering - any feedback is greatly appreciated!
-
Hi, Sharon!
I'm in Glen Burnie but I don't know of any other women in Glen Burnie who have breast cancer. Come to think of it, I don't know any other women in Glen Burnie! So I guess that disqualifies me for your research. :-)
Having said that, I'm also BRCA negative, and the only girl in my family (four girls) to reach puberty while living in Glen Burnie. I don't know if that makes a difference or not, but perhaps something environmental affected breast development. Just a thought.

Kimberly - thank you again so much for organizing this.
Either day in March is fine with me. The snow WILL be gone by then, right???
The only thing is that since I have a long drive, I appreciated the early start time. If we didn't start till 6 or 7, it would make it sort of a late night for me. What are your thoughts on the timing?
Thanks again,
Amyps. I loved your wig. It looked totally natural.
-
Kimberly~ Thanks for putting this together. You looked stunning with your wig.
Sharon~ There is a cluster in Pasadena that my daughter's orthdontist says almost everyone dies of cancer. He had 3 out of 4 friends die in one neighborhood. I personally lived in Pasadena almost my entire life BUT I worked at Johns Hopkins in the floor above the research lab and 6 young women out of about 50 that I know so far have had BC....
I can do the 10 but I will be in Sarasota, Florida on the 24th
I will be seeing some kind of sunshine in the month of March.
I can't tell you ladies how nice it was to meet everyone
-
Good morning Ladies!
Okay here we go: Our next GNO will be on Wednesday, March 10th at Hudson Street Stackhouse and we will start at 4:00 - and we will go until whenever.....
That way if anyone is coming after work they will still be able to join us and if anyone needs to leave a bit earlier they wont miss a minute. Remember that you can invite anyone else to join us - from your treatment center, your support groups, etc. The more the merrier. I am actually going to make a flyer for the folks at Mercy and if you would like me to email it to you, I would be happy to - just send me your email address.
I am looking forward to seeing you all again!
Have a great day everyone!
Kimberly
-
Awesome! I can't wait to get together again
-
Thank you ladies for the warm thoughts! I can't wait until the 10th. to meet everyone and will try to stay off the roads until then....
-
Hi Sharon - I was just at my surgeons office and we got to talking about some of the questions that you raised in your post - it was suggested that perhaps the National Breast Cancer Coalition - www.stopbreastcancer.org might help you with your question. Apparently, they have been looking at and researching the role of the environment and breast cancer - since you are looking at a specific geographic area, they might have some useful information. It seems that the issue of environment is gaining a lot of attention - hope this helps.

I am still kicking myself in the ass for missing this! And I sadly won't be able to join you guys on 3/10...I have daycare kids here until 5pm and am 90 minutes away...it just doesn't seem feasible
-
Niknak - no worries - we are going to keep this GNO going! Maybe next time we could do a brunch or something on a weekend. But know that you are being thought of.......And while I know that you have little ones till 5 and a 90 minute drive, please know that we will still be there and there are others coming after they get off work and would love to see you.
Lots of surprises for us on the 10th ladies. I was asked a question that I did not know the answer to and so I am going to put it out to everyone. Is there anyone on this thread (or that you would like to invite to our next GNO) that is or might have difficulty joining us because of the cost? I have found someone who is willing to pay for someone's dinner if that is an issue that keeps a woman from joining us - just let me know. I don't want that to be a reason that someone cannot come and be with us.
Okay - I hope you are all doing well and I look forward to seeing each of you again on the 10th!
Kimberly
-
Kimberly - how awesome! I don't know anyone who fits the category (financial hardship) but nice to know it is an option if needed. How kind of that person. I am so excited this is really beginning to take off! I would do the weekend brunch option as well. I would love to do something outdoors in the warm weather - like a picnic. Maybe with family members. Who knows where this could go! I also feel that it may turn into a place where you could bring someone newly diagnosed, where she could get hope. (You know how it was in the beginning.) Even for me, to see Alma and Eileen being several years out from their treatment and looking so healthy/normal and having all this behind them was so encouraging to me.
Thank you again for your behind the scenes work on this. Let me know what I can do to help!
Amy
-
Kimberly~ That is so a sweet gesture. Are you ready for next week ??? Sending you tons of prayers and positive thoughts.
-
Okay so who is in for next week ??
-
Hi everyone - First of all thanks to everyone for your well wishes for my surgery yesterday. I am half happy with the new"girls" but as my son said, the surgery was just yesterday and that I am still swollen and bruised and that I should have some patience (clearly after 23 years he still does not know me - HA)
We are all set for next week and I have some surprises in store for everyone! In addition, I have launched our group on Facebook and everyone can rsvp, discuss, post etc. Invite others to joins us - remember the more the merrier.
If you go to facebook.com and in the search type in: Breast Cancer Babes of Maryland, it will take you directly to our group. You can click on events and see what is up there.
I have added 2 spa day events that are being presented by the Cancer Support Foundation - this is an excellent resource, their director is one of us, and I have personally benefitted from them so I can vouch for them. If you need anything, Cindy is phenomenal. Their website is www.cancersupportfoundation.org.
Cindy will also be joining us and will have tickets available if you are interested in either of the events. The $20 ticket charge also includes food and tickets to the womens expo - more info about the spa days is on our facebook page under events.
Would love to see our numbers grow so I am counting on you all to help spread the word and invite others in your circle - and I am looking forward to seeing each of you next week!
Hugs to all!
Kimberly

The fb page is a great idea! I've joined up!

Hi Baltimore Ladies,
I've been hovering around these boards gathering info on the sly for months. I finally saw this discusssion and signed up at once! I'm from Bawlmer...can I join you next week? That will be the evening before my final chemo treatment - something to celebrate. You all sound so nice and helpful.
