Round One of Taxol

So I had my first round (4 total dose dense) of Taxol on Tuesday.  Just felt tired that day but wired out from the Decadron that night.  Yesterday wasn't so bad, but last night I definitely started feeling some bone pain, strange tingly feelings throughout my body, and slight neurapothy in my hands and feet.  So I guess this is how it starts, huh?  I am still trying to be hopeful it doesn't get too bad as yesterday I emailed my bosses at work and said I might like to come back to work (VERY part time) next week.  I work retail and the store has been closed because of the  2nd blizzard we yesterday, so I haven't heard back from them yet, and I'm hoping I didn't speak too soon.  I'm not in need of any heavy pain killers yet, but have heard from many of you that they ended up needing them.

I also am stuck here at home because of all this freakin snow and hubby who is a cop had to stay at his Mom's closer to his station as it was too bad to make it all the way home.  He'll probably stay there again tonight if they don't plow our street as his cruiser won't make it through the 4 foot drifts out here.  I do have a 13 and a 11 year old whom I'll send out later to clear a spot at the end of the drive near the road (we have a long driveway---there's no way they could shovel all of it) and I'll see if I can clear some of what's up against the house!  You'd think I lived in Alaska---I live in Maryland---ha!

Hope you are all well today, and I'll keep you posted on how things develop.

Love,

Sharon

    Sharon,

Are you taking Vit B6?  My onc had me on that during Taxol for neuropathy prevention.  I ended up only having a bit of numbness on my left foot and that went away after treatment ended.

I worked during chemo.  Even with my taxol pain I went to work the week after chemo (on thursdays).  I had an office job, so it wasn't alot of moving around.  I figured I was going to be in pain on the couch or in pain on my chair so I may as well get paid, lol.  Sometimes I think it even helped keep my mind off of the pain.

Good luck with the snow!  I'm in MN....so used to getting dumped on.  But even your snow amounts are considered a good dumping here!

i hope you find the side effects manageable.. I got used to them yo sho ma.

I took B 6 and glutamine for the neuropathy.. it seemed to serve me well.  Sometimes clutching your hands and feet and then slowly unclutching them served me well.  It seems the pain was worst when I woke up.  (i also took tylenol 3s)

Just wondering.  Why did you onc choose dose dense Taxol over weekly?

I'm on weekly Taxol, although when I first saw my onc she mentioned dose dense as a possibility. So far, I've been lucky with virtually no s.e.s.

I'm in Alaska where the temperatures have been in the mid 40's for a month.  The berries bushes have blooms on them and we didn't have enough snow for sledding all winter!

Sharon ~  I didn't like the Taxol at all.  I felt I had more SE from that than the AC.  How you described it is exactly how it felt to me, only I got much more weakness, and fatique and even breathlessness and terrible sweats from it.  I also gained 5 lbs on it.   Hang in there you'll get thru this also.

I am interested to know why some doctors choose the DD taxol or 12 x weekly. I haven't heard of anyone doing it every three weeks?

Sharon - I had DD taxol followed by neulasta shot. Didn't have any joint pain and so didn't need any painkillers. Everyone is different, just handle it how you need to.
