Mtg - geesh...I agree with Echo! Sometimes you just have to wonder what the hell?
Christy and Amy - When are you two done with your Herceptin tx's? Amy, I think you said in April or was that when you get your port out? If I recall I needed about a week after my port was remove before things started feeling ok again, so I think we should target our Ta Ta weekend around that. Let us know the dates. Does a weekend in April or the beginning of May sound good to everyone?
I definitely want to see a show while in Vegas. I haven't been there in years so I am happy to defer to Kawee regarding places to stay.
-
MTG - that is just horrible that you were treated that way. Try not to stress while you wait for your BS to return (easier said than done). Hopefully he can get it straightened out. I hate that small minded men are in charge of our bodies and lives.
-
Echo - Your comment makes me smile....and I keep re-reading it, laughing and agreeing....Very well said.
Kawee - You hit the nail on the head. I'm the control freak and have had a very active role in my own care throughout. For some little twirp to tell me he knows better than the plan my doctor and I came up with just infuriates me. And doing things his way would have a real down side - not being able to be checked out for another 6 months (at least, not with insurance coverage.)
I recently had a run in with a twirpy medical resident while my Mom was in the hospital who wanted to inject my Mom in the stomach twice a day with a blood thinner. He wanted to start the shots and then would contact her doctors and stop if they didn't approve. First off it would be painful. 2nd, there was no emergency situation. 3rdly my Mom's doctors are tops in their fields and know far more than any resident; where did this resident come off not consulting with them first? And finally, Mom was already on Plavix and aspirin and since she was a fall riskhaving just had a hip replacement, she could have bled to death. Well, I kicked him out and gave his supervisor a few choice words about teaching this kid to "do no harm",
I've never been one to like the god complex docs... This is 2 in close order; one more and I'm going to lose it !
Peg -when the going gets tough, I go shopping....and eating ! Did that yeasterday. Will do that today. Doesn't change the big picture but helps the stress.
Thanks all for letting me vent !
-
Betsy...I have 2 more herceptin treatments left and will be done March 1st!! YAY! I will have my port removed when I go back to New Orleans on March 10 for my second stage of reconstruction. Then, I should be done with everything! Thanks for asking. How are you doing now?
MTG....What an a-hole!!! You have every right to see your results. You need to complain to someone about him.
I have an appt with the radiologist on Feb 15th, and my chest has still not healed up from that bad burn I had. It is better, but not healed. I am still using Silvadene. So, I am anxious to see what she has to say.
-
MTG..I'm having an hard time understanding this S**...t.....Why in the heck wouldn't they read your ultrasound? Because it wasn't the right time? What? I would tell him to stick his penis somewhere..sorry..but this is YOU we are talking about here....how can they be so stupid..go in and demand the care you need...damn it..it's not their body or their cancer.
Why do we freaking have to fight to make sure that ultrasounds and mammos are read and done in a timely fashion....there is just no rational reasoning at all.
I asked my onc if I could have a mammo every three months..he said no..no need..I wonder why not??? My insurance has paid and will pay for it...if they won't well screw it..I will pay for it....
My insurance company is wonderful..but sometimes I wonder about others..I keep thinking that they don't have to pay for freaking funerals..now do they???
On another note...I still want to get together...how can we all get this together? Set a date, place...I can't go to the ta ta sisterhood thing because my DH and I go away during the fall together...I would really like some of the others from the April chemo 09 group to meet to...alot of us are one and the same..what to do...how do we do this..with everyone? I can't even get my freaking picture on this board let alone organize a trip....
-
Titan - I have an appointment with my BS next week so I'll just wait till then. Of course, I did email him to give him a heads up but he's out of town wouldn't ya know.
My BS had originally thought something every 4 months would suffice. I wanted to do something every 3 months to prevent a recurrence of my initial situation (had an ultrasound in April , former Dr. thought it was just a cyst and wanted me to come back in 6 months. By June, 2 months later - I could see and feel the lump. And it wasn't a cyst after all.) So, I'll be damned if I was going to let some faceless doc hiding in an office tell me otherwise, Let him hold my sonogram hostage for a few days; I guess he feels it gives him power. Ha ! (But I have 3 new pairs of sunglasses thanks to him. Wouldn't have been so self indulgent otherwise.)
Now, as for you ..... keep in mind mammos miss lots of stuff so if at all possible try to add in a Sonogram and an MRI into your rotation.
-
God you ladies crack me up. I love reading this forum, it makes all the sh.t almost worth it. I think we have all gained confidence while walking this path. At least we won't take the bull we are being dished without a little spunk! I'm loving it. MTG - three pairs of shades....woo hoo!
I'm still up and down with swelling and pain. But at least my coloring looks better. I seem to be improving slightly.
Titan - I swore to myself I would not organize our spring Ta Ta get together, but I'm happy to pick a date. I can't do the fall either. My DH and I are planning a trip to New England, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. If you need a roomie, I'm happy to share a room.. I just want my OWN bed! I don't snore but do like to party too! We can have the party in our room, I may even bring some of my fleur de sel caramels (MTG am I tempting you yet?).
I hope all you out there reading this who want to come join us...do so. I know we have some lurkers on this site, you are welcome too! It should be fun. More details to come. Amy, we need to hear from you?
Christy - I am happy to hear you are wrapping up in March. Maybe the end of April might work for you too???? Are you interested in joining us in Vegas? I think Amy has similar timing.
-
Betsy - You caught me ! I thought I was being subtle by keeping quiet on the LV front. Not a lover of that place. But as I hear you guys talk about it, I do get tempted. I'd really love to put faces to the names and personalities I've grown so close to. Who knows ?
-
We don't have to do LV..anywhere would be fine..I would like to go someplace that we can party, have alot to do but at the same time have somewhere that we can hang out together without all the glitter stuff around us...We did vegas 10 years ago with about 10 other couples and we really didn't see much of each other the whole time..does anyone have any other suggestions? That's why I suggested Chicago..never been there..here it is fun but maybe not the frenzy of Las Vegas...we are certainly open to suggestions
And Betsy..I would love to be your roomie..haven't had a roomie since b4 marriage and in college..!
-
My port comes out on 4/26. Looks like my daughter's wedding shower is the weekend of 5/15-16. Other than the 10th, when I have a graduation to go to, I am GOOD TO GO. I am not crazy about Vegas either, I just suggested it b/c there are lots of direct/cheap flights and rooms. I would be fine with Chicago - very easy trip from Philly. I just want to see the wonderful women who walked this walk with me this past year. I'm good with Chicago. Love the Art Museum there. Plus tons of good food. And it will be warm. Sure wouldn't want to go there this time of year!
-
Ok great..we have a suggestion...keep them coming...we maybe able to find somewhere that is compatible with us all...I agree Amy,,,,it would be great to see the women who have walked the walk...my son still thinks that one of us may be an ax murderer disguised as a breast cancer survivor...funny stuff...I told him that if an ax murderer was among any of us breast cancer survivors she wouldn't last very long with us....!
-
Some place we could party, eat and that should have great rates - anyone interested in New Orleans ? Haven't been there since before Katrina but in addition to jazz and the crazy stuff, there's top notch food, a large art district, antique stores, a casino, and historic restorations - a little bit of everything.
Of course, I also understand that LV is a great way to meet and party reasonably. I know that food and hotel rates are always great.
Would DC be an option ? - food, history, art, just not certain I'd call it a "party town".
-
Oh my boss stays at the Omni when he goes to Chicago I will look into their rates..I get e-mails from them all the time. Chicago is an easy flight from Cleveland also
-
Ladies, I hear Santa Fe is also nice. I am sure wherever you ladies go the fun will follow.
-
Can you see me now? My son just put me in here..it was easy! Whee!
-
Wow, so many options.......I would go anywhere to meet up with all of you. I am wondering if we should base our destination on the month that we go seeing as too hot vs. too cold could put a damper on things. So....when do you want to do this??????
BTW, you look great Titan!
-
I dont want to complicate things; if we go with Las Vegas, I will try to make it too !!!! It really is the company that counts !
And yes Titan, I agree... you look great. Your son did a good thing !
-
How about the weekend of May 22nd! Most should be recovered from port removals, re-construction surgery, last Herceptin etc (Michelle - I think you might be the only straggler).
I'm game no matter where we go. I have a airline ticket that I need to book before Feb. 16th (my canceled trip to France due to bs) So if we decide soon and maybe I'll be able to use the ticket. If I don't book by the 16th, I lose it. I like all the suggestions. I've never been to New Orleans but would love to see it, never stayed in Chicago...just traveled through so that sounds fun too, been to SF (it's fun), never been NY City, and was in LV when I was 13 (it's really changed) -I don't like to gamble but would like to see the Belliago and a show. Somebody else needs to make this decision...as I planned the France trip...and didn't get to go so I feel a little jinxed.
Titan...(thank your son for us) it's good to see you. You look marvelous!
-
I;ll
-
I might as well add one more place into the mix, it's pretty central. Santa Fe, New Mexico...another place I went years ago and would like to go back as an adult. Oh so many places to go! Like it was stated before, the location is not that big of deal it's the company that matters!
-
Betsy and everyone....Thank you for asking, but I am so sorry, but I won't be able to come to a get together. I just returned to work after being off for 6 weeks from my last surgery and I will be off again for at least 2 weeks after my second stage surgery in March. I won't be able to take anymore time off. i hope everyone has fun that is going!!
-
Ok, thought about it; count me in for WHEREEVER, including Las Vegas. And any time in May works well for me.
-
I'll be up to my eyeballs directing a play until the last weekend in May. We close on the 23rd. They postponed this show for a year because of my BC treatment....now I'm obligated. So, y'all have fun for me. Does anyone here do skype or ichat? I'd be happy to be in the room via computer
! -
I am going for my CT scan and mapping on Monday, i was wondering can I wear deodorant?
-
I have no problems making things later for Echo....I meant my statement to be open ended , not limiting. If June or July or whatever work better, that's fine with me.
-
Michele...I would not wear deodorant. Actually, all the way through rads I didn't. I wore some under my good arm...but that's about it. I still haven't worn any under my bc arm. Post rads, I don't think I sweat like normal anymore. Good luck.
I'm fine waiting until June, the first few weeks of July are out for me, other than that I'm flexible. I called Delta last night, they merged with NWA last week. They said I've missed my window to re-book my ticket. I called NWA to confirm my last day to re-book numerous times and they consistantly told me 2/16/10...so I'm going to fight them. I wrote my deeply disappointed letter asking for a full refund of my non-refundable ticket. My dh read my letter, said it was great, but added you "stinking bastards" as part of it. I will delete his remarks but it made me LOL.
-
June or July are fine with me too. Except the weekend of 6/19 - my daughter is GETTING MARRIED that day!!!!!
Question though - as we start to plan - how long of a trip are we thinking? Like fly in Friday, spend Sat/Sun and fly out Monday? Or more or less days than that? I really want to pick somewhere that is easy to get to and has a lot of direct flights so that MOST of us can go non stop and we don't have to spend an entire day traveling each day to/from.
Your thoughts?
-
Christy...when coud you take a couple of days? Amy agree totally..I was thinking a couple of days...for me a trip to Las Vegas ...we always go 4 or 5 days..I like the idea of a Friday to Monday type of thing...My dh said you couldn always come here ..to Ohio...but I' m not sure anyone really wants to come to Ohio for a trip..I live near Amish country and I could take you there..but to be honest...I never go there myself so if would be fairly new to me too! We also have opera, ballet, and art museums if you like that kind of thing. I could do that..it would be good for me...well anyway..we will come up with something...we have time,..let's get it right.
MTG..I have to tell you that when my 19 year old son saw your avatar his eyes got HUGE...he is a 19 year old boy after all..I said..that's my friend's avatar! It was hilarious
-
Titan - That's hysterical or as the kids would say LMAO ! You did explain that it's a cake, right ?
-
Yes..I did explain to him that it was a cake...I think he thinks we are all a little crazy!
