I am doing 12 weeks of taxol. Every 3 weeks I will get Zometa. Then I will go on the normal dosing schedule.

Has anyone else done this?

My  next onc appointment is early March.  I am definitely  going to ask about zometa for me.

PIP - I have all the AccessZometa info if your Onc doesn't already have it. Norvatis is great at getting you onto Zometa! (well, I guess for the money thay are charging, not so great...!)

I started zometa 3 weeks after my last chemo.  Things have come a long way for zometa in the last year though.

AccessZometa is a service run by Novartis (the drug manufacturer) for patients who cannot afford paying for the drug or whose insurance plans don't cover it. This stuff costs several hundreds dollars per IV.

If you call AZ, they will cover something like 50% (? I'm not sure about the percentage). Also they might arrange for a delivery of Zometa and even a nurse. The phone number is 1-866-281-4765.

Jen - AccessZometa were the ones that set up my infusion. I cannot get it administered at the hospital for some ridiculous political reasons (not Standard of Care for Early Breast Cancer, either as mets preventative or osteoporosis preventative) So, I had to get a nurse to come to the house to give it to me. They arranged all of that, and paid for her too, although we paid for the actual drug.

I just had my appointment with the onc.  I didn't realize this, but apparently zometa is only shown to be of benefit to those just completing their chemo and surgery tx.  She will be attending a symposium on this in the summer to hear the latest tests results.
