I've been up every day so far at 4:30 AM whoa....exercising.  But I'm still eating over my calorie limit.  I'm beginning to think I'll be just as fat as I started in October when I go into my surgery in February.  I am very depressed :(  but not giving up.

    Good morning ladies.

Jo what does AI stand for?  Hope that is not too stupid of a question.

So far so good on South Beach.  I am on phase 1 and it seems really easy so far.  My motto is progress not perfection.  The old me would always put way too much pressure on myself to eat perfect.  So when I tried to lose weight as soon as I ate something "off program" I would just lose it all the way.  I am finally loving myself enough to do what is best for my body.  No more regrets.  No more beating myself up for letting myself get this fat.  I am now doing something about it.  There are some blessings that have come from BC and I think loving and honoring myself and my body is one of them.

And, yes, exercise and eating right is more about health than weight loss.  We want to be healthy, meaning not out of breath just walking across the room or up 5 steps.  A healthy heart is worth far more than a size 28 waist (something I haven't seen in 20 or more years - pre-BC!)

patoo--I forgot about the Al...I am on Tamoxifen...that counts right?  I agree too about a healthy heart!

I am going to try the South Beach thing...maybe it'll help me have less "cake" cravings ;)

I've decided to try out the "Fullbar".  My problems aren't really the meals and controlling portions, for me the problem is the evening snacking!!  These bars do have a lot of calories (150 - 170), but am hoping that I will be able to take half of one in the evenings and not have any other snacking!!  I am really not a fan of puffed wheat though, and of course that is the main ingredient!!  Oh well, I will give it a try anyway!!

Cake, I read on another thread about the trip you are planning.  We went 3 years ago with the family and it was GREAT!!  The only drawback was waiting in line for the rides, but we did go at the absolutely worst time - Christmas Break!!

We have now decided to take the family on a caribbean cruise in February with my brother's family - now THAT'S what I call motivation for a little more effort in the weight loss area!  The thought of a bathing suit right now is pretty scary, but will try lose what I can before we go!! I would be thrilled with even 10 pounds before the end of February, but now really have to work!!!

    Hi Ladies,

fmakj- I have the Richard Simmons workouts but haven't used them in quite a while.  They are fun, I don't remember the name of the one I liked best but after the aerobics portion he does the ab  and leg workouts.  When I am able to start up again I'll have to dig those out.  I have the Denise Austin interval training workouts that I like best because they seem to give you results quicker!  I think the key is finding what is right for you though.

patoo- have worn the sketchers a few times and didn't notice any difference but they are very comfy.  One of the main reasons I bought them was for when I go back to work and a girlfriend said that she is on her feet all day and they have helped her.  I was hoping for the extra advantage of toning, so I'll just have to see how it goes.  I don't go back to Dr. until Tuesday so I'm not sure when I'll be back to work.

JO- I had a 24-25 inch waist when I got married almost 23 years ago!  Although I've lost weight over the years, I don't think I ever went down to that again.  I blame it on having the 3 kids in 3 years, plus 4 other abdominal surgeries along the way.  I haven't measured my waist in a very long time and don't really want to yet. I'll wait until I lose 20 more pounds! lol  Seroiusly, I'm just working on 1 pound at a time.

The thing that has helped me most with my diet is not only portion control but adding more veggies.  I love a variety of veggies but will need to find different ways to eat them so I don't get bored with them.  I guess I need to get online and find a website for this. Anyone know of a good one?  It seems that this is the first thing that goes when I start back to old eating habits!  The way I'm trying to keep motivated is by looking in the mirror and reminding myself why I need to do it this time.   There have been some challenging days but with visible scars it makes it easier I guess.  Just taking it day by day!

Going out for a walk now.  Take care.

Cool fmakj!  I thought about going on Christmas break too, but I wasnt sure if it would be too cold...and busy like you said.  I hate lines!  I'm planning for October this year...as long as the money "stays" there...you know how this economy is going so HOPEFULLY it'll all work out.

I am having such a hard time sticking to smaller portions!  I am going to try a meal bar and a slim fast to see if it helps.  I have 6 weeks before this DIEP surgery, and I'm so frustrated...you would think I'd be wonder woman preparing for this surgery, but NOOOOO...piggie me.  I did weigh myself this morning and i lost the Christmas weight, but I never get past it!  I keep losing and gaining 3-4 lbs since I first made this post.  Its so ANNOYING!!!!

Hang in there.  I figure it took me 30 years to put this weight on and since I'm not going to let 30 years pass before I take it off, I'm ahead of the game.  Patience will work better for us than frustration.  That's my story...

    Hi All,

I just found this thread. At menapause, I gain 30 lbs due to overeating and inactivity.  I was thin and in great shape until the age of 48.  I am now 59.   I lost 10 lbs after my diagnosis in Feb. but have put them all back on since I started on Arimidex.  I crave carbs all day and have given into the temptation.  I had stopped exercising, too.  I have had no motivation.

This morning, I decided that today was the day to start living healthier.  My husband handed me a flyer from Yale  New Haven Hospital inviting me to join their Fitness Intervention Trial.  Then I went on this site which I go to often and here you are!  I get the message!  Today is the day.  I have already done 30 mins. on my eliptical  and will  do some weight work this afternoon.  My biggest challenge is moderation.  I have always been an "all or nothing" kind of person.  My goal is to be patient with myself and kind to my body.  I'm really excited to take this on but I know I will need support to stay on track.  Thanks for being here.

Way to go, Roseann.  Glad to see you here.  Join us also on the 'Lets post our daily exercise' thread for more motivation.

I'm still down 7 from December 1st so that's great but it's been there for 2-3 days now.  Hope I haven't hit a plateau but can continue.  No, take that back, I have NOT hit a plateau and am going down even if only a tenth of a lb. each day.

Well, Tuesday is the big day for me.  I am oficially going to go back to WW.  I had great success with it in the past and know the diet, but just can't seem to do it on my own.  Once I get started and get past the first few weeks, then I am fine as I actually like healthy food.  I do find that I spend a lot more money on food when I eat healthy, also spend more time thinking about food.....which somehow does not seem right.  I am going to be starting on Megace tomorrow and I have heard from others including both my onco here and the one I saw at MDA and the pharmacist that I should be prepared for a weight gain.  Well, if I am pigging out and enjoying myself eating that is one thing and I have only myself to blame, but when I am tring to lose and really watching and counting what I eat and still gain that is another story.  I was that way when I was on tamoxifen and it was sooo frustrating.  People tell me you don't gain weight on tamox, but I certainly did and was at my alltime high weight when on it. Averaged a 2 lb gain per month.  But I was also taking neurontin and I think that added to the problem. Also the tamox put me into instant menopause and everything changed then.  Whatever, tomorrow is a new day and I am starting on Megace and would also start WW tomorrow, but my dear neighbor who said she will go with me doesn't want to go until Tues.  So what am I going to do tonight?...eat mac and cheese and porkchops and may eat what I want of the leftover Xmas cookies before throwing them out.  Bad, bad, I know, but I want to eat what I want while I can. I know all things in moderation are fine, but I am not very good at small portions if I like something.  I think it is great that you women are doing the weight loss forum and that you are doing well on it and can support each other.  I will let you know how I do. If WW stilll has the core plan, that is the one I really like and did real well on. You can pretty much eat anything on it, but have to count points if the item is not on the core list of foods.  I have wanted to do this for awhile, but it took the fear of really gaining on a new med to push me into it.

OK, I think that now I am ready to start with the FIRM workout tape that I have.  I agree it works much better than Richard Simmons although I don't have fun with it... so lose interest quickly - but like the results better.  So starting tomorrow, I will alternate the FIRM with Richard every other day and hopefully have the best of both worlds!!  My family are going on a Caribbean Cruise on February 21, and would like to feel a little better about myself!!!  Still need to lose quite a bit of weight, but like Patoo said, it took me a loooooong time to put it on, I must be patient!!  Will also get back on the scale this week!!! Promise! Innocent

Wishing everyone painless weight loss! Undecided

I made a New Year's resolution to keep a food diary and not to beat myself up for what I ate. But the diary is an eye opener and it is really helping me.  I have actually lost two pounds and hope to keep them off. I still have a long way to go but just realizing what I put into my mouth helps.  This thread is really a gift to me to keep going.

    Have a nice day.

    Hugs

Mumayan, that's the attitude - we fall down but we get right back up.

Mandy, congrats on the 2 lbs less of you.

Fmakj, take me on the cruise and I'll rev up the motivation.

    Nighty, night.

I tell ya - it's the name "cake" - who can lose weight with that?  I think you should change your name to 'brusselsprouts' (altho I do like them but I don't think they make you gain!)  Tongue out

Just kidding you - hang in there.

OK I did it.  I got on the scale and down 2 so a total of 8 since we started.  Not too bad considering the holidays were in there I guess.  Cake I have been using the "FullBar" although not quite as directed, and it is helping me with the evening snacking. Trying not to change my diet but just eat less of it!  Been doing my excersises regularly.  I find that I am much more motivated when I know you guys are here with your efforts also. Patoo I would love to bring you with me - maybe you could keep me away from the buffet!

fmakj, the good thing is that by the time of the cruise your habits will have changed and you will choose your foods differently, even at the buffet.  They also have daily exercise classes and a gym onboard most cruises so be sure to continue your workouts.  You'll be coming back telling us you lost some more!

I've found the same - all the "health" bars seem to contain soy.  I don't worry about all soy, but when it says "concentrate" or is high in the ingredient list then I tend to shy away - just in case.

It's okay.  If you eat them standing up the calories fall to your feet and then you walk them off!

    Hi Ladies,

Back from PS and things are healing like they are supposed to 4 weeks out.  Finally am able to start slowly on the stretching exercises but no aerobics for 2 more weeks!  I'll take what I can now.

Since we're talking about soy, anyone ever wonder what the asian ladies that get bc eat?  My onc. told me to avoid asian food but if I really wanted some it was OK to eat once in a great while.  It seems that a lot of food that is "healthy" for you, we're not supposed to eat.  I have to wonder about some of these things.  When I asked both oncs.(I had 2nd opinion) if lifestyle/diet changes would have an effect on recurrence they said no.  Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?  Just wondering.

Now, let's talk about the scale.  I think it's a conspiracy, the stupid thing tells you one day that you lost weight and the next that you gained  and still the next day something different.  I think I need to only get on the thing once a week or once every other week.  This was the reason I threw out my scale years ago cuz it drove me crazy!  Need to just concentrate on how my clothes fit!

I have a wonderful friend who is going to teach me more about a "clean diet".  I know for the most part, it's whole foods, lots of veggies and that kind of stuff.  She knows what foods I need to avoid beacuse of the bc and she actually told me that most soy is not good for you anyways.  I really trust her and am looking forward to what she has to offer!  I've already changed my diet to incorporate a lot of this thinking since this all started and maybe that's why I have lost 15 lbs. so far.  Also, I've noticed that my acid indigestion hardly bothers me at all any more.  I think the last time I took anything was right after surgery and I think the meds had a lot to do with that.

Anyway, I hope all of you are keeping warm.  Keep up the good work on trying your best for the diet and exercise routines.  It's not easy but do what you can, it takes a while to take weight off the right way. Take care.

Hi Kelley - great to hear you lost 15 - nice!

There is so much information/mis-information out there that you really have to just do what you can for a healthy lifestyle and let life take over.  Ask 14 oncs the same question and you will get 17 different answers!  I understand that since the asian diet has been high in soy since birth that they don't have the same issues with soy after bc.  Whether that is true or not...

Hope you will share some tips from your friend if you believe we might benefit from it as well.

Enjoy the rest of day, everyone.  Think I just might give my boss the rest of my attention today. LOL

Well, last night I went to WW with my neighbor and I kept track of everything I ate today and thought I did really well, but I am only allowed 18 points per day and when I added up what I had today, my total was 21 so guess I blew it already.   I liked the core plan so much better, but now they are doing something called momentum.  I am going to bed now to avoid comsuming even more points.

Hey JO- at least you recognized that one pound and know what you need to do to get rid of it.  I have to be so conscious now of what I eat or I'll go back to old habits.  I need to make my changes the habits now!  BTW, DH and I are coming to Ohio to visit next week.  It's going to be cold but we really need to visit both families.

I know this is off subject but I just noticed that my "posts" number has been at 39 for a bit.  It seems like it's stuck there.  Anyone know why?  Just wondering.

Back on track, the weather has warmed up here and I took a nice walk yesterday and plan to take one today.  Starting to do the arm stretches again, YIPEE!  It feels good to do that again.  2 more weeks until I can start aerobics again.  Hopefully that will help a bit with the hot flashes like before.  Hard to believe, but it did seem to help.  I guess time will tell.

Take care, keep positive thoughts and press forward!
