Just got the Call...
I was just called from my mammography centre to come in for more photos...they saw something. Of course, the blood rushed out of my head and I am a bit freaky. The call went on to say, they need to compare more with last year photos and that it may be nothing. But still....
I hate this. I go on Monday for more shots. I know we are in the high alert group and everything is checked over twice. Looking for some support here from other gals who have been called back in...
I effing hate this.

I have not been called back twice, Im sure that day will come though. I think the whole anxiety and stress that comes with a BC diagnosis, is worse than the treatment. It never completely goes away, there always something.
If I was in the situation I would try to look at things this way.....the Mammography Centre is taking EXTRA percautions just incase. And they want to have a good baseline mammogram to use for comparison for future mammograms.
Im sure you have heard of woman on the board who had a clear mammogram X number of months before and then bam....BC. I think it is a good thing what they are doing.
Everything will be fine.

Hang in there. I hate it too. I suppose we all do. But we go anyway and do what the docs tell us, and take what they give us. Most of the time without even thinking that there may be long terms consequences to the treatments or tests. Gettin poked, squeezed, exposed.. They manage to keep it all as clinical as possible, it's not so personal to them.
Here's some {{{{{{{{{{{{{SUPPORT}}}}}}}}}}}}}} AND A ((((((((((((GENTLE HUG))))))))))))).
Take your mind off the medical as much as you can, it will be there. I try to occupy my mind and hands with tasks that I most likely won't screwup. Its too cold to dig in the dirt. Cook. Babysit. Throw out old magazines or scrub the tub. Laundry, dusting. sorting socks. Get out of the house, if you can and just walk, listen for unusual sounds and guess what it is. Take pictures of weird things, they look different when you pop them up on the computer.
Just suggestions. Know that there are THOUSANDS of us and we ALL CARE.
Take care of you!

over the course of the 7 and half years since my diagnosis; i have been called back..and on occasion biopsied at least 5x. in fact, last mammo; i needed additional imaging. i think that breast cancer survivors are watched diligently; in a way; better to be called back for additional looks...then have them let something go if there is even a tiny little something that looks suspicious. i still have issues with my breasts....my treated breast...and now i pretty mucu expect that i may get called back. initially, i really freaked out...now i see it as part of my follow up in that they are taking good care of me. hang in there. it is all so hard; but necessary.
take care of yourself. do something that makes you feel good in the next few days...

I got the call numerous times pre diagnosis which turned out to be nothing (and no it isnt even in the same area where I was diagnosed)
-
funny-last mamo I had they actually didn't call me back. I remember thinking that has never happened-they usually call me back and suggest ultrasound. 3 months later I had stage 3 bc.
The odds you have another bc this soon is really really low. But hearing everyones fear really makes me think I need to get my other boob cut off b-c I wont be able to handle the fear:)))
-
Let-it be-I just reread your post. Are you talking about your other breast or the one you had bc in?
Did you have masectomy?
-
Jen, it's a scan on my remaining breast. I did have a mast. I've been calming myself down all day...
I think, worst case scenario, it's caught early... I'll just have no breasts. Whatever right?

Thanks Ladies for writing in your similar call backs and words of wisdom. I don't know what I'd do without the out reach and camraderie in this forum!
-
Let It Be....just wanted to give hugs to you. They are being super careful with you..and that's a good thing. Deep breaths and one step at a time.
-
I would say they are just being over-cautious.
Is it at the same place all your other films are - I know when I went for my U/S the other day she went off and compared everything with old u/s images and MRI's.
Also, as you say, if it is anything (which I doubt) it would be very early stage, or they would have picked it up when you were first Dx (did you get an MRI then?)
Try not to worry (easier said than done) and keep us posted.
-
ok whew---do you feel anything in there? If not thats a good sign.
You can always get new boobs:)

I just wanted to let you know that my impression is that there are lots of false positives. When I was first diagnosed, in addition to 2 tumors in my left breast, they found a very small tumor in the right breast. On the right breast, they did several mammos, U/S, MRI and a U/S guided biopsy- they told me it was IDC. So I had a lumpectomy (Mx on the left breast). Well, it turned out that it wasn't IDC on the right at all- some sort of hyperplasm, but not cancer. SO, I got false positives through several tests and even with a biopsy, so take a deep breath and take the tests one at a time.
I also had somewhat of a similar situation recently, I had 2 spots that were"unclear" with the first bone scan and CT done since diagnosis and the onc ordered a PET/CT and MRI. I was on the way to freaking out until I realized that I am going to be having scans the rest of my life. I can either freak out each time, trying to "prepare for the worst", or I can realize that I could get the worst message at any of these scans, the first or the 10th and to not worry too much until I actually (possibly) do get a bad message. With all the false positives, I just don't want to use lots of energy on things that haven't happened yet. I don't know if this would help you.
I am crossing my fingers for you and am counting on that they are just being very careful with you!

Thanks ladies, I'll keep you posted. Kerry, I had the mammo at Juravinski in Hamilton and the previous films were done in Burlington. So...hoping it's an issue of comparing. I did have an MRI, I think it was in March last year, a blur, and it showed nothing. She did say they saw something...I had a biopsy on this breast last year the same time I had the right cancer breast done and it came up b9. I wonder if they even know that a biopsy was done? It may be the scar tissue. I just hate that there are so many people involved and do they not know how freaking stressful it is to wait!!? I just mentioned in another thread how wonderful it has been this year not worrying (like it was for me last year). And now this call!!! Argghhh!! They should have at least waited until I could get through my son's birthday. Damn. I will go bananas dusting the house, putting away the tree, anything to keep my mind busy.
Jen, no I feel nothing. If anything this was my lovely squishy booby! I saw my onc. on the 17th and she felt nothing as well. So, yes, maybe this is one good sign. Truthfully, I'm tired of wondering. As soon as I got that call, I wanted to go straight to bed.
Thanks for the hug Bugs!
I think I'll watch Harry Potter and then go to bed.
Good Night fair Stage 3 ladies!

Let-it-be ~ Lots of Gentle Hugs to you, hon. I can only imagine the anxiety. I have to go for my first mam on the other breast later this month. I'm already a mess over the thought of it. I'm at the point I want to just tell them to take the other one too.!
-
Hey just saw your post...please try to keep calm..thinking of you ..I hardly come on any more ...just lurk here and there..LET IT BE....if you need to pm me or email please do .
much love

I have mentioned this before, but I had a biopsy done on my good breast when I was first dx, and they inserted a titanium chip at the place, so if it ever comes up in the future, they will know that area has been biopsied, and they will know what the findings are. If they do biopsy you, ask them to do this so it isn't an issue in the future.
I would imagine they are seeing your old biopsy scar, but don't know about it because it was done at a different facility. When I had the mammo that showed the cancer, they got me in immediately for a biopsy, not more films. So if it was anything really suspicious, I would bet they would biopsy straight away.
Try and relax!

I am right there with you. Everyone here got me off the ledge and I go on Monday for the results of my MRI (that was requested after a mamo). What helped me was to have the mammo report read to me over the phone so that I knew what was causing the concern. Once I understood, it was much better. Can you get your doc to tell you what they saw on the mammo so you know if it is just bad images, an area of concern or something very suspicious? Also, do you know how you will get the results of this mammo? Do you have an appointment set up to review the results?
Sending you hugs and good wishes.

Hi, just read your post..Was called back and had a biopsy...alll was ok. Scary tho...did not want to start again...for sure. Fingers crossed that all is ok.
-
Hi,
I too, have been called back, had ultra sounds, MRI's, guided MRI's, biopsies etc. Thankfully all turned out OK. Hoping you hear good news.

I chose a double after stage 3 diagnosis, I had mammo, Ultrasound, PET scan and breast MRI and I had stage 3 in right breast only. I had neoadjuvant, then surgery. My path report after surgery showed cancer in right and 2 small areas in left that didn't show up on any test. These area's were towards the back of my breast. My surgeon said thank god you had a double. I don't think by having a double will help me live any longer, but, it keeps me from having another surgery.

Treasured ladies, I am okay! Just got back from the hospital. I had another mammo, u/s and then examined by 2 docs. Turns out, they did not know I was biopsied last year in the suspicious spot and the other lesion is the same as last year in size so it will be monitored from here on out. I was told it has benign characteristics and the fact it is the same size as last year is a good sign.
BIG SIGH of relief. I am so wacked out tired now!!! I could go to sleep but off to work, darnit!
Thank you all who posted comments to keep me sane. I see now this will be the drill as long as I still have one breast. I guess I better get used to it!
Big Wide Love!
