Liver mets?

Hi

I finally got my onc to let me get an MRI of my remaining breast. I got the results today, and the onc said, " as far as your breast is concerned, its fine, but there is something on your liver. I know that I had cysts about 3 years ago, that showed up on a pet scan. It showed they were stable. Now, would that also show up on an MRI? Now the onc wants me to go for a CT scan of my abdomen. Would blood work show mets? Here we go again:(

Ilene,  Unbelievable that you are going through this.  When is your abdominal CT? I know nothing about PET, MRI, blood work, or CT that would be of any help. I wish I did so I could help somehow.  There are lots of smart women here, you'll get help soon. Fingers crossed for good news from your scan!

That means waiting over the week end.  You can do this!  Totally keep busy, the holidays are good for that, and try ever so hard to be in the moment, put this out of your brain...... is any of this going to happen????  Ya... right!

Ilene - oh, man, I am so sorry you have to go through all of this. All I can say is that MRI's are notorious for false positives - all sorts of things turn up, that turn out to be nothing. A lot of Dr's don't like MRI's (and PET's) for this very reason. I have had all sorts of "nothing" turn up on them before. And if you had cysts show up before, I would bet that that is what is showing up now.

Still, that doesn't make the waiting any easier. Fingers crossed they get you in this week - is there any way you could speak to the radiologist right after the scan, so you don't have to wait over the weekend?

When they do blood work there isa section that could show elevated if something was on your lungs. (not tumour marker test) I get blood work once a month so I always check it.

My ct of my abdomen came up clean-my mri has 2 lesions on my either liver or lungs-I have to look. They were .2mm and .3mm. She told me they were nothing and too small to even biopsy. She also said if I didn't have bc they wouldn't even commented on them on the report but that they have to.

Do you know how big the areas are? Was you blood work good? But yes whatever shows up on the pet would be on the MRI. Pets with contrast just show the whole body and at a different angle. Did he compare it with the MRI you had done to make sure they weren't the same ones?

    Ilene,

I'm so sorry you are going through this scare.  I'm betting it's the same cysts that the PET picked up.  They are just being extra careful...which is a good thing!  Hugs to you..and keep us updated.

So sorry you have to go through this.  I'm sure you onc is being overly cautious and that it's the cysts showing up again.  From what I understand about the bloodwork it doesn't show cancer cells, but they can show elevated numbers on whatever test they're running that would alert them to do further testing.

    We're here for you................................. (((HUGS)))

Just a little update... I got a call from where I am getting the CT and they said that since I had an anaphalactic(sp) reaction to a med 20 years ago, I have to get the CT done at the hospital not where I was going. Also, they said that I had to take prednisone before. So I called and almost didn't get an appt at the hosp until the 27th, but now I got an appt tomorrow am about an hour from my house. Atleast the results should be in before next Friday, when I leave for vacation. I told them that I am refusing the prednisone because it makes me crazy!!! Just venting,,,, sorry
