Epidermal Growth factor
I read this on my path report but have no idea what it is-anyone heard of this?

It has to do with the HER2 gene....

There are 4 kinds of HER's, HER1, HER2, HER3 and HER4. EGF (epidermal growth factor) is another name for HER1. Right now HER2 is the important HER because there are treatments that target it. There are some new treatments being tested, I think, now for HER 1.

say what? Skin mets? you lost me? No I had no nipple of skin invasion. My margins were wide and clean.

Epidermal Growth Factor
Epidermal growth factor (EGF) is a small mitogenic protein that is thought to be involved in mechanisms such as normal cell growth, oncogenesis, and wound healing. This protein shows both strong sequential and functional homology with human type-alpha transforming growth factor (hTGF alpha), which is a competitor for EGF receptor sites. EGF is a small 53 amino acid residue long protein that contains three disulfide briges.
EGF is colored by secondary structure.
