I would just like to thank
my banker that when I went in to see him today introduced me to his manager whos mom just died of breast cancer. And proceded to tell me " Gosh that disease scares me to death -it's everywhere"
No shit sherlock and if you think telling me about a women who lost her life to this stupid disease somehow comforts me then your a real idiot.
Breast Cancer survivors want to hear SURVIVOR stories-stories of hope not stories of death.
I sweat sometimes I feel I shouldn't even leave the house.

OMG What a boob!!! Some people just don't get it...'specially men. geez.
-
Okay butting in here to AGREE completely. It almost seems like they can't wait to tell you their sad stories. I think I had 5 people tell me about someone they know who died of BC when I was diagnosed.
-
Where do people like that come from?!
-
i am so flippin pissed b-c of course I came home and fell apart. What a flippin ass.
-
Yeah, I'll send some money for the ass award too. Idiot.
-
lolll-too funny!!!
-
Ugh!! what and A Hole. How pathetic is he????
-
I had that happen too-well, not with a banker but at my daughters' school. I was there to see a show and newly bald when someone came over to tell me about their mother in law who "died after a long painful battle with breast cancer." HUH!??? I rarely cried during all of the treatment crap but when I was at my daughter's concert (she was in Kindergarten) I completely lost it.
I laugh about it now but I feel for you. It is hard to get past those comments. You will, however, learn to deal with them in your own way. All that being said, the banker is an idiot-stupid, stupid people!
-
I suppose the creap didn't even give you a toaster, either. People do the most dumb things...
-
How about this one? I had a big holiday party when I finished treatment 2 years ago. Lots of food, family and friends, It was lovely. Then I'm talking to my sister-in-law and her husband. He starts talking about a neighbor who died of cancer. "It was bad, painful, well you know how it is when you die of cancer." My sister-in-law had a horrified look on her face, I just got up and walked away.
-
lol-Shari55 your story takes the cake. I would have slapped him.
The thing is these people don't mean to harm you or hurt you so it's hard to get to mad. I woke up with rib pain, then had the bank incident. Not a good day! Tommorow is a new day though.
-
What a ninny. Next time, please just do the bank drive-thru, OK? LOL Don't worry, I'm sure someone will tell him later what a complete nincompoop he is. But "nincompoop" is too long to put on his trophy...so we'll just stick with "idiot"
-
I think that people feel they are commiserating with you when they say something like that. "Gee, how I have suffered by knowing that my friend's mother passed away" uh no.
-
People like to bring out their "stories" so they can show you how much they can "relate" to you and your breast cancer, but it really is not the reaction we are looking for, is it? On a good day, I know they are just inept and don't know what else to say. On a bad day, I just cut 'em off mid-sentence, and say something like, "I'm all cancered out, what else can we talk about?"
-
Maybe that's why we want to come here to talk. Unless you have lived this, how can you understand? Yes, we need those survivor stories, big time!
-
Yep, Gitane, you are so right. No one can relate unless they have walked the walk, so to speak.
