Please go to "Muscles and Arimidex" under the hormonal treatment forum and read an exchange I have had with Tender for the last couple of days, and in particular read the two journal articles she has posted there. I am past that time of taking AI's but many of my stage 3 buddies here are just starting. Love--and concern--to all of you, Weesa

Thanks, Sherri, you just had a nice anniversary, too!  I am working on being one of your little ole shriveled up ladies. As you know, I still wait for the other shoe to drop, just not so constantly now!

    Hi Weesa,

What is the study saying? I am 98 er pos-I guess I should check how po pos I am. I am going to ask for the tamoxifin test to see if I quality My mom did tamoxifin for 5 years with no issues and I am sort of hoping for the same.

I guess my prego-chemo brain doesn't get exactly what they are saying. Is armidex the same as tamoxofin?

The aromatase inhibitors, aromasin, arimidex and femara are newer and work very differently than tamoxifen. The AI's are usually prescribed for menopausal women. The reason for my alerting our forum to this thread is because of the severe side effects that seem to kick in after a few years for a small percentage of women. Yes, you could get a test to see how well you metabolize tamoxifen. You are still some distance from that day--don't fret about it yet! You have so much on your plate. We'll all be relieved when your baby is here...

BTW, on another post today, you talked about how breast cancer is really a collection of diseases. Some researchers even consider breast cancer to be a collection of 100 or so disparate diseases that all manifest with cancerous cells in the breast. For instance, did you know er pr positive breast cancer is actually divided into luminal a and luminal b? Luminal a has a good prognosis, and luminal b not so good. I think you are probably luminal a, which is good news. Well, Jen, take care, your NC buddy, Weesa

I've wondered that too....mind you, I read a study that said the taxanes were only beneficial for Luminal B's.
